Well here the same story.
I have my instinct solar also for almost 3 years and sinds a month it suddenly shuts down during activty tracking.
can we fix this?

I have an instinct solar that is powering off at random. No pattern just does it whenever. Everything is up to date and tried the hard restart with no fix. I have had the watch for 3 years and love it. But this stinks. Any fixes coming out soon? Please.

edit 3/6/24 - No real fix or update when I called. They suggested I pay for another one through them. But from what I gathered from others in the forum who have the same issue is that the unit can’t keep up with the power demand and shuts off. That sounds like a design flaw to me. I’m running no watch right now because I don’t know if I want to stick with something faulty.

Placement is more likely the problem here. Correctly placed it should be a couple of finger widths above the wrist bone. And, as mentioned, the tattoos won't help either.

Nothing to do with display. Simply a setting that determines how many data points are saved.

My Instinct is so inaccurate when walking and cycling. I don’t understand how an expensive watch like this can be so unreliable.

Picture shows a basic oxiomiter showing my HR is 149 after an effort, wrist shows 88. I’ve had the same when on arduous hikes. Any one have any idea or suggestions? I also have HR data set to display every second not “smart”.

Tattoos (among others) will definitely prevent the optical sensor to get your HR correctly. Try finding a position without tattoos - on the inner side of the writs, or on the other wrist, perhaps.

Instinct 1st gen an expensive watch? It is one of the cheapest smartwatches on the market. You can get it for around $100, and even for less. However, even the top models will have problems taking HR in bad conditions, like through the skin covered by tattoos, at low temperatures (peripheral vasoconstriction), during some exercises (cadence lock), etc etc. For any serious training, I definitely recommend using a chest strap HRM. Not only it is more accurate, but it also allows for measuring the HRV during activities, which is not possible with the optical sensor.

Garmin instinct don't charge

I have a Garmin Instinct, when I remove the charger it shows "low battery", turning it off and on also makes the battery start from 0. When disconnected it stays on for minutes and then turns off. I have tried all the resets and I have cleaned the watch.

Instinct 2x - I just started using the Workout feature of my watch. When I select "Activity" "Workouts" "My Workouts" then Select a workout, it Says "Do Workout" I select "Do Workout" and it goes to the Bike Activity Icon to select a Biking Activity instead of my Workout. Is this a Glitch? Any Suggestions??

... BTW: questions about Instinct 2 models are better asked on the Instinct 2 forum - you have a better chance to get a relevant answer there. The forum where you opened this thread is for Instinct 1st generation, and that model does not have all these features, so most users visiting this forum are not familiar with that functionality

Do not use the workout activity. It is pretty much redundant, unnecessary, and I'd tell even useless (at least I did not find any interesting features on it, that would be helpful). Quietly remove the Workout activity from the watch, it just clutters the activity menu of the watch. Do it in the way Garmin-Laurie described - start the HIIT activity, and then start the workout from its menu » Training » Workouts » your workout » Do Workout

Thanks for your reply. I did create my workouts in the Connect app and actually used a couple of the workouts that were already created by Garmin. The ones I created were HIIT workouts. It is very intermittent when it will go to BIKE and when I can actually do the workout. I do use the Breathwork, then the Run Activity before trying the workout activity. That's when it will go straight to BIKE and not let me do my downloaded workout.

Hello Dale

You can start your workout with the activity first, then choose the workout with the steps below. This should avoid this roundabout way of accessing this.

Press the GPS button
Select your desired activity
Hold the Menu button
Select Training
Select workouts
Select the desired workout
Select Do workout
You can then start your activity

It is true, if you are creating a workout in Connect, you will want to select the correct category (Run, Bike etc.) for these to appear.

Yep, the same thing. My watch keeps turning off and can't reboot unless plugged back in. The watch watch want cheap, and I've bought another one. I praying this one doesn't have the same glitches.

I am having trouble connecting and updating a Garmin Instinct (software version 6.60) to both the Garmin Express app (windows) and the Garmin Connect app (iOS).
Garmin Instinct will fail to pair with Garmin Connect app (all normal troubleshooting recommendations followed).
Garmin instinct will show up on Garmin express software and will receive a message stating the Garmin Express Servers are unavailable.
I have successfully connected another device Fenix 5x on this Garmin Express version so am certain the internet connection is sufficient.
I’m stumped [emoticon:5ce50ea3f9eb49809e861e8733750338] any ideas?

This seems like they gave up too soon. Where are you located? Support in certain countries is not operated by Garmin, rather a third-party distributor site.

Did they walk you through the complete reinstallation of Garmin Express and resetting your watch to defaults?

Well, try re-installing the Express or at least re-adding the watch to it, even when one watch works with it, other may not, duno why, maybe some setting or cache got wrong, but indeed it may help to connect.

I have talked to Garmin product support, sounds like the software version is too far behind to salvage it. They have offered a new Instinct device at a discounted rate.

Any one else with any ideas?

Have you tried restarting the watch? Then if not working, resetting the watch to factory defaults?

Typically, Garmin Express is going to be the most reliable way to get your watch up to the latest version. IIRC, I've seen that error when my username and/or password for my Garmin account was wrong. Such as after I reset my password but didn't update it in Garmin Express. If you're sure all is well, then next step would be to uninstall Garmin Express, check the option "Delete all Garmin Express files from your computer."

Then download the latest version from Garmin - Garmin Express - Windows | Garmin

Then reinstall the app.

thanksafter 19.10 firmware update my instinct solar kept reestarting when it vibrates witha notification, i disabled notifications the basic way,but with your tutorial now it works well,thanks. sorry for bad english,im from colombia

My garmin instinct - tactital edition is still vibrating when I get notifications even though I turned vibrate off, how do i fix this or is it something wrong with the clock?

Hello all,

A little while ago I completely stopped getting text message notifications from Googles Messages app. Of I switch to a different default text app (handcent, Facebook messages, signal, default LG app) it works just fine. It's only Google Messages that doesn't work.

Normally I would just rate the app low and move to another app, but messages seems to be the only one that can do most of the features I work correctly. Others either won't send pictures in high res, don't let me access my media correctly, cannot send gif messages, and other problems. I don't know if they are phone specific issues (LG G8), or app specific. I contacted Google and tried their fixes but none worked. They also blame the watch even though other apps work just fine. I went through Garmin's fixes and they didn't work either.

I'm guessing it's an App problem, but I figured I'd ask here and see if others have had this issue and see if there were any fixes.

Looks like you created a workout of the type "Bike". If it was a mistake, create the workout anew, and make sure to select the right type before clicking the button "Create a Workout"
