However, the reactivate message may be the message all of our inReach devices show at startup "Warning messagin tracking and sos require an active subscription always test your device before you go" this is just a warning that the device has to have a subscription. I do not know the exact message you are getting but it sounds like that may be it. I would also recommend making sure to sync your device Updating inReach Firmware and Syncing Account Changes with inReach Sync.

I used my InReach SE last a few years ago, with an old email address and account. I'm off on a big trip tomorrow and needed to reactive. I tried with my old account, but kept running into some unknown error on the PC when selecting the plan. As a result, I decided to create a new account with an email address I currently use and details all up to date. I made the payment and successfully activated the device.

However, a few moments after getting confirmation of successful activation, I got the 'must be reactivated' sign come back up again on the device screen. I went outside, reactivated successfully again, and sent a successful test message. Then it happened again - the 'must be reactivated' sign...

I'm not sure what's going wrong... the plan and payment have gone through, but it keeps telling me I need to reactivate...

Has anyone got any advice? I'm off tomorrow and need this to be sorted!

Thanks

Inreach not send texts or receiving them

Inreach is activated with unlimited plan, and will not send and or receive text messages? We do try to make the activation of these devices as easy as possible. However, with so many factors that could affect the activation, for instance not selecting something correctly, payment declines, system errors etc., things do happen that could prevent the device from activating or taking longer to activate.

I do not know why yours was delayed but there could have been a delay in activations at that time. The email is a great indicator that your service went through and is not irrelevant, but it is also not the finalizing factor either. When activating and getting to the end online you will see Activation Successful then when you select Next a page that says Completing Activation and Messaging with some instructions on next steps. If you do not get these pages then you would know it is not complete yet.

The Completing Activation and Messaging page mentions that once you finish the activation online you will then need to take the device outside with a clear view of the sky to finish the activation on the device. It can take up to 20 minutes to complete the activation outside.

inReach SE+ activation pending

I've just purchased an inReach SE+ and am very disappointed.

I have signed up for a Freedom plan but it gets stuck on 'Activation pending'. Logging out of the account and logging back in the unit gets a signal but gets stuck on 'Confirmation Pending' and then goes to 'check online' so I tried logging back in to that but it starts again, asking me to input the unit details. Doing this just results in a message that 'Activation is pending for this device'. So I looked at contacting tech support but they are closed for the weekend and following the weekend is a public holiday. This is for a device intended to be used for emergency situations?

Is it likely there is an issue with the device or is this a problem with whatever servers are used to activate my device?

tracks editing

Hello,

My Explorer said over 16.

RE: Inreach explorer mileage incorrect

Moved to correct group. If the Garmin servers are down, nothing goes anywhere. Even device to device traffic goes through the servers.

I don’t know how resilient the Iridium satellite network is. The satellites themselves form a mesh network. They relay messages from satellite to satellite until they reach one that is currently visible to a ground station. Then satellite to ground and onward to Garmin servers. No idea how the “final” satellite knows it’s over a working ground station…

Bottom line is that it has a lot moving parts, some of which are subject to ground power outages.

RE: Is there a way to get Explorer+ to accurately report distance traveled and speed?

The units do NOT use the Iridium satellites for navigation. They have a separate GPS radio.

if you only send track points by satellite (no logged points/activity/term du jour), the reported distance will typically be short of reality. You are only getting the straight-line distance between sent points. Unless you actually travelled in straight lines between points, the total reported will be short.

If you are recording an activity, the reported activity distance may well be longer than reality - especially in challenging conditions. This is because ALL Garmin handhelds are lousy at eliminating wild excursions caused by multi-path reception. If you look at the activity recording around that rock (on a map), I suspect you will see the characteristic “spiderweb” pattern centered on the rock. The reported activity distance will include all of those wild excursions.

This is the explanation which suggests itself based on your rock example. It’s also possible that the unit is trying to conserve battery at the expense of the accuracy of the fix. That really seems like a stretch based on the total motion around the rock. Finally, it IS possible that the hardware is bad.

I picked a plan (once) and paid with a credit card (once). I simply tried to log back into the website to try to troubleshoot why I couldn't complete outdoor activation and had a message saying 'activation pending' that prevented me from seeing any more. That was until I received an email a few hours later saying the registration was complete. Following that message, and not on the several times I had tried before, I was able to go outside and complete the outdoor (on device) part of activation. Based on that, I am not sure why the confirmation email can be assumed to be irrelevant. If the registration and activation process are becoming less reliable, that is disappointing. Perhaps someone from Garmin could confirm / comment on this?
