Longitude incorrect.

I have a 76s that has decided not to handle the longitude correctly, at my latitude ~35°N the 76s bounces back and forth between the correct longitude and a point about 250-300 yards off. If I set waypoints with the navigation OFF, some will be located correctly and some will not. The same when I create a waypoint by holding down the "Enter" button. The last time I used it the GO TO function was pointing me to a location about 250-300 yard to the west of the point I had set by pressing and holding "Enter" earlier that day.. This last waypoint was at my truck and as I moved towards the truck the GPS was showing the distance to the way point as increasing, but as soon as I got close it indicated I was approaching the waypoint.

I just purchased a mini 2, I was told my family can track my route on Google Earth and it was free to do that. I wasn't sure if I heard that right. Can someone please confirm if that's true. If it's not free, what is the lowest subscription plan to allow such tracking?

Mapshare track not updating X 9 hours?

Hi - I've been tracking along with a backpacking trip for a family member. He and his hiking partner had it set to update location every 2 hours, and it did that yesterday. But suddenly the updates spaced out then stopped - saw them every 2 hours yesterday, then 8 pm, 12 midnight, 4 am - and now it's 1 pm - 9 hours later - with nothing since then. I'm wondering what the technical reasons could be for a gap like this, but am having trouble finding that info on the website. Wondering about - too many trees, or battery going dead (though it's only day 2 so I wouldn't expect the battery to be dead yet?). Are those accurate? Are there others? Unfortunately the Locate and Messaging functions from my end don't seem to be working. Welcome any thoughts and ideas. Full transparency I'm wondering if I should be worried... Thanks!

I have a strange problem. I'm trying to send weather data to a friend's inReach. For this we have thought of a data encoding, which he can then decode again at his place. I send the message via webinterface. Now I have a problem with the following message:

If I test sort the same characters then it works:

Of course the message is useless like this but it shows that it can't be the characters themselves but the combination. Can someone explain to me what the reason is?

I have no access to explore website, messages can be sent only between IR devices but will not arrive on any other media, neither mail nor sms to phone.

Did not test SOS but hope this works somehow.

Have any GPSMAP inreach units caught fire?

I am planning a sailing trip through a remote area. For that I am looking for a reliable device that sends every half an hour lat, lon coordinates to a private email address. Just that. But automated. Is that possible with Inreach? I read some manuals, scrolled through the messages here but haven't found the answer yet. So I don't want these on PredictWind or on MapShare or ... but just sent my own private email address...

Hello I am in need of some help -

I have a 66I and it has worked in the past with sending messages. But the past two times I have tried to use it they do not send out. I am also not able to receive messages. It tries to send them out but we get the "messages not sent" notification.

I have tried resetting and syncing like the instructions say to on the Garmin website but I am unsuccessful. If anyone has any idea what could be causing this please send some information my way!

Hi All,

activated Garmin in reach via Garmin explore website. Never got a verification code via sms to simply install messenger app. Got it activated, device working and all good. However still dependent on the messenger app for full use of device. Have tried time and time again to get the sms code but nothing. Without use of the messenger app the device doesn’t work at best capability and just cannot verify this simple app download on iphone.

Any ideas???

Dubious InReach Weather

It's really great being able to get current weather forecasts in the wild. Unless the forecasts are prepared by a troop of chimpanzees with a childish sense of humor. These pictures were taken in the same eight-day period. There was a similar scene between the two that I failed to photograph.

I suspect a third-party weather provider is simply returning the forecast from the nearest official weather station. But one of the main applications for InReach devices is back country living/travel where the nearest weather station is often, if not usually, far away and with much different geography. If anyone knows how the forecasts are prepared, please post a comment here.

Aside from the inaccuracy of forecasts, there are other strange implausibilities. When InReach weather shows a high likelihood of rain for a day, the probability of rain for each two-hour period during that day will almost always be zero in my experience (limited as my experience is). The one exception is for the two-hour segment current when the forecast is returned. In other words, the forecast for today or tomorrow may show an 80 percent chance of rain, while every two-hour segment for that day shows a zero percent probability of rain. If I keep asking for new forecasts every few hours, the probability of rain for the two-hour window I'm in may accurately show a high probability of rain even though the forecast two hours earlier showed no such possibility.

What makes this especially weird is that in the United States the Weather Service prepares highly localized forecasts that are accessible by URLs specified by coordinates. I believe those Weather Service forecasts take into account various factors like terrain that affect local weather. In one instance, I compared the Weather Service forecast for Island Lake in the Bridger Wilderness at 03:00 UTC (Hourly Graphical Forecast for 43.08N 109.64W (weather.gov)) to a simultaneous InReach forecast. They were significantly different, with regards to rain, barometric pressure and winds, though they were not outrageously different for any of those parameters in the one comparison I checked.

So even though InReach weather is a great idea, I still have to send a message to a friend with Internet access in order to get a forecast I can rely on for my position.

I don't get it, why the KML Feed URL from Garmin doesn't really does what it's suposed to do:

You just get the file as a download, but you want the content of the KML in the response body, so you can feed it to a external Webapp!

I bought a new screen for my alpha 100 cause my GoPro cracked the screen running dogs one night and My Garmin says I’m in Kansas somewhere but I’m in Florida I’ve reset the Garmin I’ve tried dopping pin on new location. I don’t know how to correct this problem and it won’t show my collars after I connect them

SAR 100 insurance for evacuation from a sailboat in case of a medical emergency

We are sailboaters cruising the remote areas of Pacific Northwest and Alaska. We have our own regular health insurance, insurance for the boat, towing insurance etc. We also have several emergency devices, including a Garmin Inreach. We are considering purchasing Inreach SAR 100 (https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/906397) insurance. We are wondering if this can be used to cover a medical emergency. For example, if we have a life threatening situation in a remote anchorage on the sailboat, could it be used to cover helicopter pickup expanses. We would not need the heath insurance as we are covered for it but the cost of getting to an emergency service will be important. Trying to get to a place via sailboat can sometimes take days and it is obviously a problem in case of an emergency. I read the FAQs but couldn't find a clear answer. Any guidance will be appreciated.

Maximum Polling for KML Feed

I finally hit a '429 Too Many Requests' error today from my web app that does some limited live tracking. I cranked it up to 1 minute polling since the event is using all 2 minute trackers. When I noticed the error, I turned it off and tried on the hour until requests went through again (took about an hour or two). I've now got it polling every 10 minutes which seems ok but the fact remains there is no documentation about how much polling is too much!

I'd love to know how often I can poll per-minute or per-hour and if there is a way to batch KML feed requests together rather than iterating through each feed URL.

12 hour lag between my Montana 750i location and the mapshare/maps location

The location shown on both MapShare and the Garmin Explore website are about 12 hours behind my actual location. As a safety device this is not acceptable.

Have I set something up that has created this lag, or is this a system error? If it is a settings issue, can someone point me to the fix?

Previous inReach units I've used the lag was only a few minutes after the tracking interval, so basically a live feed.

Garmin etrex won't boot

I have a Garmin etrex touch and it crashes at boot up. I followed all the recommendations held the power button for a good min. Is there any firmware coming to fix this problem?

I was able to connect to my PC with a lot of trouble is it possible to just wipe the GPS and start over using the Garmin connect software

Texts to other numbers work, but not AT&T. Hasn’t worked for past 4 days of my backpacking trip. Happen to have LTE here and saw all my missed iMessages - no one received my Garmin texts. 😡 This is a huge issue and makes my subscription worthless.

Suppose I activate on an inReach Freedom plan on July 1. Presumably, this makes the monthly billing period the 1st day of each subsequent month, and the renewal date for the annual fee the following July 1 . Later in July, I suspend the subscription.

Then starting on November 15, I reactivate the plan for 30 days. How does this interact with the monthly billing period?

1. I am charged a full month on Nov 15 and the monthly billing period is changed to the 15th of each subsequent month? (cost is 1x monthly fee)

2. I am charged a full month on Nov 15 and the monthly billing period remains the 1st of the month? (cost is 2x monthly fee)

3. I am charged a pro-rated fee on Nov 15 for the last half of November, and the monthly billing period remains the 1st of the month? (cost is 1.5x monthly fee)
