Fenix 5X - 2.72 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5X users,

Thank you to everyone for the tremendous response that we've already received this early in the Fenix 5X launch. We are very excited to finally see the Fenix 5X in the market for all to enjoy!

We appreciate you, our customers, who pursue similar passions to our own, and share those stories with us. Not only do you share your stories, but your feedback makes an already fantastic product even better. This we appreciate more than we can express.

Because of our wonderful community we are officially kicking off the Fenix 5X beta program today. We have this program so that we can offer added features, improvements, and bug fixes to our most loyal fans as soon as possible. Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the links below for your specific device.

This beta is a public release candidate and our hope is that next week we can make this build public. We look forward to your feedback

In this beta software there is a GPS update. Before use, we recommend that all users allow their device an opportunity 'soak' and acquire GPS at least 15 minutes, with an open view of the sky, to rebuild ephemeris data

Please send all bug reports to [email protected].

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience. :)

  • Hello

    thank you for the Beta !

    is it possible to revert to the "standard" firmware ? or when the officiel Firmware comes out it will replace the beta ?

    thank you

    You can revert (instructions are in the beta load instructions) but doing so will wipe all data on the watch. When the official release comes out it will update automatically and overwrite the beta, so there's no need to "hop off" when the release firmware hits the street and lose the accumulated data on the watch -- unless you run into a critical problem that makes the beta unusable for you.
  • Today I use my 5X in the swimming pool and when i get out i noticed that altimeter was climbed at 854m and barometer was at 1150mb (correct value was 109 1016), never happened before with my Fenix 3, some minutes after exited swimming pool, these values was almost spot on as before.

    Same here elevation before my swim was 4333' after was 5300' not sure when the auto calibrate kicks in....I started a run activity and the value was still 1000' high after manually calibrating to the GPS the value was then legit!
  • Varia Vision

    Both the beta and stable firmware have no ability to edit the Vision displays. Multiple timers aren't useful. And should also be able to configure per sport (why would I want pace while cycling or speeding while running, etc).

    On stable (haven't retested on beta) the F5X froze in multi-sport once the vision powered up and connected during 1st transition. This happened over and over again until I disabled the sensor.

    I noticed another bug swimming with 5X and HRM-Swim: when i have paired HRM-Swim with my 5X and i have started to swim appeared a data page with current heart rate, max heart rate during repeated and average heart rate during repeated. Once i started to swim, this page appeared only when i approached watch to band and reported correct value, but once i turn away from the band, the value reported were : current heart rate = 0 (that is ok), but Max heart rate=120 and average heart rate=90, than after i scrolled down data pages, this heart rate page disappeared until i approached the watch to the band again...
  • Another comparison between my F5X and the FR935- the F5X did not have a good day, compared to 935;

    Fenix 5X setup- HRM-Run+Stryd, watch calibrated to an altitude of 7m at the start;
    FR935 setup- optical HR only, watch calibrated to an altitude of 7m at the start;

    Would you like to elaborate on this? I can only assume that the Pink path is your iphone and the blue/orange the F5x? There are spots where both are off and some where one or the other looks better (although don't really know which path/road you were actually on. ) More importantly, from the Evening_Ride_garmin.tcx file it looks like you are not using 1 second recording. Also, where was the watch vs the iphone mounted and what other settings where used? Although interesting, I have my doubts on the value of a watch vs iphone comparison unless you start to compare all the sports related features. Just my opinion though.
  • Is the 2.9 update just posted to Garmin Express essentially the final version of this 2.72 beta? 2.9 doesn't mention a GPS fix, so I'm curious if the GPS change included in 2.72 is carried over into 2.9...
  • It did come with a GPS update; the EPO was invalidated and it took a while to get a lock first time after the update installed.
