Fenix 5s OHR w/HIIT training

Today was my first workout with the 5s.

I slacked my way through strength training, and the OHR seemed accurate.

Then I did a hiit class and the OHR was absolutely worthless. It crashed at 80-90 beats per minute when I was actually dying. I guess it couldn't handle all the wrist action? I don't know whether to give it another chance, or just wear my chest strap all the time.
  • I used the standard garmin ant+ heart rate monitor. I always had trouble staying connected to my VAHR. But generally it would stay connected to my vivofit 3 >big shrug>

Do you think I'll do better with the HRM Run or Tri?

Sounds like you might have an issue with your HRM.
Is yours one of the old ones that detaches from the strap? If it is see if you can borrow someone else's strap (they're pin compatible with a range of other straps not just garmin) because an old worn out strap can cause issues.
If it works in another strap then you can save yourself some money - replacing a strap is much cheaper than replacing the whole HRM!
I tested out my friends old Garmin HRM last week with the strap from my Wahoo HRM. He was having issues with it dropping out but his strap was old and worn. I was able to confirm that his issues were because of the strap not the actual monitoring unit.

Otherwise if it isn't (or if that doesn't work) then see if you can borrow someone elses HRM and see if that stays connected. If it does then it's new HRM time for you. If not then maybe your F5S is defective.

I tried to use it again today. I am wondering if it's a range problem? When my arm stretched out or away from my body, the connection was lost.
