Try focusing the eyepiece. Sometimes depending on how far away you are from the flag, and objects behind the flag when attempting to laser the flag, it may take a couple of attempts since the Z80 does not have the vibration indicator when the flag is locked on like the Approach Z82 has.

For me, I find that it takes me a couple of times to laser the flag if the wind happens to be blowing, and there are trees moving behind the view of the flag when lasering.

Every time I try to get a distance to the flag it just shows 3 little lines and doesn’t give a distance

How do I fix Garmin Z80 frequent crash issue?

Hi, I've had my Garmin Z80 for almost a year now. I am still facing frequent device crash issue. When the Garmin Z80 does this, it will reboot itself but sometimes it will just freeze. Has anyone managed to fix this problem?

I get the same problem. It can take 2-3x before i get the reading.

I completed a map update yesterday and now the unit shuts down as soon as I select Play Golf. I can see others are having the same issue but no answers are given. I have reset defaults, done a unit hard reset, reloaded all maps - same issue. Please send some options.

This is useless during the golf game !

I have software 4,2 and still have the roblem with freezing during a round. I need to restart all over. This is useless during a round. I need my finder when nessesary

No, Garmin has not been able to fix this issue. Unless there are mass number of problem with same issue, Garmin is unlikely to fix this issue i guess. PS i am using Bushnell for now like user 4444673

I am getting the following message; 'Cannot range. Device is too hot'. and as such cannot reset or use the device. is there anything I can do to reset or otherwise?

Not yet. Unfortunately the suggestions that came back did not resolve the issue. Currently I am using a friend's Bushnell (golf must go on!) but

still hoping for Garmin to come back with a solution.

I have shut it down, however when restored it still has same message. Note: The device is not hot to touch.

I have reset the device as you recommend, however 1) the error message remains the same; 'Cannot range. Device is too hot', and 2) the battery charge is running down even without usage.

please advise.

You can try resetting all of the device settings to the factory default values.

Select: Settings > System > Restore Defaults

The other option is to try updating the software on the device using the steps on the support page linked below
