Golf Device Frustration - X40

I picked up an Approach X40 last July. It gives me distances for golfing and tracks my score as well as my shots/distances with clubs. It has been fantastic up until the last month or so. The device still gives me distances while on the course and still tracks clubs and distances, but now it does not upload any of the data from my round to Garmin Connect, however it does upload the actual exercise(heart rate, distance traveled, map, etc).

Looking over the Garmin site it sounds like this is a known issue and their current work around is to turn off Bluetooth so that you can upload the stats manually to your computer.

It seems ridiculous that their solution to a problem with one of the major functions of the device(score/shot tracking) is to disable another of the major functions(notifications from my phone).

I had a FitBit before and it had its own shortcomings, but this seems ridiculous. Reaching out to customer support did not work, just curious if anyone else has any ideas?

It shows as the X40 is paired and connected but when it syncs on Garmin connect App nothing shows up. It only shows up when I connect to computer and sync through Garmin Express. Only been happening recently

Make sure that the Garmin Connect mobile app is on the most current version (2.14) through the App Store/Google Play Store, and update if showing available on the app page.

Check the settings directly on the watch to ensure "Activity Tracking" is enabled. The only metrics that will appear from the X40 in the Connect mobile app are Steps, Heart Rate, and non-golf activities recorded on the watch. If you are wanting to check scorecards or golf related features, make sure to check through the Garmin Golf app for that info synced from the watch.

If none of the above apply or resolve the concern, then remove the watch pairing from your phone, and then re-pair through the Garmin Connect mobile app to see if that then resolves the sync concerns.

Contact Garmin Support if the concern continues so they can discuss and troubleshoot live with you through an expert.

First Few Holes Inaccurate

I've had my x40 for a couple of years, but lately I've seen some odd behavior lately.

Recently, on several occasions, the yardages on the first few holes have been off by around 40 yards or so. And this is on courses I've played many times using the x40.

The first time it happened, I deleted the round after about three holes and started a new one, thinking it was just a one-off bug. But it happened again yesterday. Yardages were accurate once I got to the 4th hole, but they were off be around 40 yards on the first 3 holes. When I was standing on the greens, it still said I was around 40 yards out. I had to manually go into the scorecard setting and enter my score, since it never switched over on it's own to "scorecard mode".

Any ideas what's going on? I've stayed up to date with firmware/course updates. Is this what happens when the device starts to die?

autoshot detect not working

Just finished up my first round. I'm not really sure how to view this. When I open up the connect app AND connectGarmin site, it shows the path we took on the course but not the shots taken or the actual holes (besides the google maps pic). Also I noticed the yardage was about 10 - 15 yards short consistently. Is this normal?

Just tried doing a reset and updating. Is there something I am missing to be able to view my shots? I tried googling but could not find an answer. PS no trueswing sensors are installed.

My garmin approach x40 face all of a sudden was cracked. Any ideas on getting it replaced?

Courses too large to fit on device.

The courses are too large to fit on the device. All 3 course updates are 61.23 MB and Garmin only has 60.1 MB free. I cannot select which regions to update it will only do all3, so just wipes all of them and fails to install. I am using windows 10.

I think it has been possible in the past to deselect e.g. Pacific.

There are many similar queries, so it is clearly a problem, but no soultions that work have been posted as far as I can see.

Hi Having the same problem, all bio sync is fine, Golf will not sync, have all permissions enabled and have had this problem with an older X40, purchased a new one and still have the same issue.

Tried all of the recommendations to solve ran into a dead end.

Have to constantly load on the App and setup.

When working is duplicating the exercises, stumped?

I have had for about three years, would I need to do a factory reset and remove the history to free up space on the drive?

Why should I set it to yards? I’m living in Spain and we are using metric system - meters or in this case kilometers. This is what I have in Both watches.

Hi,

I bought a new garmin Venu 2S, and I am using it from time to time to play golf. Usually I use my old approach X40. Recently I found out the 2 watches shows different course distance... and the difference in some cases is around 2KM... which is not a short distance.. :((

I took pictures using both watches at the same time, amd the final results... my golf playing was s... but at least I made the point of both watches not showing the same... ;))

Any explanation? I have installed all the updates to both watches... and still the same...

Hello, we might need to check the units setting on your Venu 2s. Press and hold the menu button in (bottom right) and then select Gear icon > System > Units and make sure the device is set to yards.

Suggestion:
I had the x 40 for over 2 years and have not experienced any issues ,either with the watch, uploading data to connect app on my phone or PC.
About every 2 month I go on Garmin express to see if there is an software update and install it. . This might help, then update my Garmin watch

Club Tracking

I would like to be able to track what club I use on the Approach X40, but it is very difficult to determine what has been set up on the X40. I think I am setting up club tracking, but once I start a round, I get no message on the device to identify what club I used on my last shot. How do I positively know I have selected club tracking on the X40?

Default settings on Approach x40

When Iconnect/download data from the Approach X40 to the Garmin Connect app on my phone, the default settings on the x40 seem to change from yards to meters. I always set "yards" on my X40 because of golf, but for some reason it gets reset to meters after every download. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? This is a long outstanding issue with the X40 that Garmin has not addressed. I would like to measure golf in yards, and everything else (bike rides, walks, etc) in meters. There is no way to configure the x40 to do these two things without having to go into the settings to change them for every activity. Why my X40 automatically resets to meters is a mystery to me.

I've got the Garmin Approach X40. Got it about two weeks about, but really put it to use this past weekend when I played at two different courses. The first round, my Garmin recognized the course and worked perfectly throughout the round. The next day, I played a different course and it did locate the course, but the holes were completely wrong.

Was there something wrong on my part or is there a way to report this to Garmin to correct?

make sure you check which hole you are on or select the correct front nine if you are playing front nine. Because I found out for example if you stand near to hole 10 but you are starting for hole 1 it will show you hole 10 yardage. It recognises where you are currently standing at. So best to stand on hole one tee area while it is searching.

Hello, you can make sure the X40 has the latest course data. We released an update a few weeks ago.
