Montana 760i shuts off or freezes everytime I use Outdoormaps+, any Firmware Updates at the Horizon?

I paid lots of money for the Montana 760i, paid again for OutdoorMaps+ only to watch the device shut off or freeze when using the map screen. This device has one Job: be reliable on matter what. Orherwise I simple use my phone and Save the money.

is there any Firmware Update at the horizon?

Montana 760i stuck in boot loop

760i stuck in boot loop. soft reboot fails, hard reset fails. Germin Express fix fails. Removing battery for over an hour fails. No SD card in device. Suggestions?

Accessing custom maps from 710i

I've just bought the Montana 710i and am trying to access a custom map. I've saved the .kmz file to the device (both using internal storage and a microSD card - following the recommended file paths Garmin/CustomMaps/). The files are listed under the device and open in BaseCamp when connected to the PC, but I can't find any option for Custom Maps in Map Manager on the device itself to access or open the map.

Anyone struck this while trying to sync wirelessly? Tried to sync while I had mobile data coverage last week (BT or Mobile hotspot) and each time the messages was that the Montana 710i was busy and to try again later.

Deleted the pairing, re-established the pairing and still no better. Both devices were at idle and both have UTD software.

Suggestions?

Hello, i found a problem - there is no off course alerts. If you change settings for change a course with monit, there is silent prompt with ask to change it. Software version 23.40

Custom POI Proximity Alarms on Montana 710

I have used POI Loader to install over 200 Custom POIs onto my device. The POI Loader software gives the option to set a proximity for all Custom POIs, but doesn't seem to load these as Proximity Alarms to the device.

I want to set the same Proximity Alarm for all 200+ Custom POIs. Is there a way of doing this in bulk - ie select multiple POIs (or other waypoints) and set the same Proximity Alarm for them all? I can set them one at a time, but that's going to be pretty tedious for over 200 points, so am looking for a way to apply the same alarm to multiple waypoints/POIs.

I have KMZ map files loaded onto a microSD inserted into my 760i. What next? How do I access the maps? Note that I cannot load maps from my computer because it is a Mac running the latest OS and it refuses to acknowledge that my Garmin exists as a drive when connected by cable, despite Garmin Express being able to update software etc etc. (I have followed all the instructions in the manual about connecting to the computer, and followed all the troubleshooting tips.)

You can access files on the 760i from macOS but you need a third party application for it. The 760i uses a different way to communicate between the device and a computer called MTP, and unfortunately macOS has very limited support for MTP. As a result, the device will not show up in Finder.

A free tool you can use is OpenMTP. The interface is a bit clunky but it works. There are also paid apps, like Macdroid or Commander One.

One note though, on macOS only one application can exclusively access an MTP device. This means that you have to fully exit Garmin Express (or Basecamp if you use that) before using a tool like OpenMTP. By default Express keeps running in the background, so you have to fully quit the app.

If the custom route keeps changing to a route on a road on the map, Direct Routing will need to be selected for the Routing Activity instead of what is currently selected. For more information, see Custom Route is Changed on Device to Follow Road

How can I reconcile routing method between Basecamp Routing and Garmin 760I routing method?

I have been using Basecamp for years. So I bought a new Montana 760i to help me navigate on my new motorcycle. I create a route in basecamp, select activity as motorcycle, then select +more at the bottom of the route edit page and select "Curvy Roads". But when I load the route into my 760i and select Motorcycle Activity it asks for Direct, Time, Distance preference. Then it recalculates the route to something that is no where near what I so painstakingly plotted out in Basecamp.

I have been unable to find "Curvy Roads" option inside the Montana 760i as a route option. I am investigating "New Profile" to see if I can get the thing set up to optimize the routing method for motorcycle riding.

Any suggestions, ideas, help, etc. would be appreciated.

Map Manager Queue Problem - queued updates on 760i

Hello, I am a new Montana 760i user in Türkiye. I bought the Topoactive Europe map. Despite many attempts, I could not load the map onto the device. Each time, Map Manager says "queued" and waits. After a while, it starts downloading again by itself. Despite several attempts, I could not overcome this situation. I have seen people experiencing this very annoying situation on different Garmin devices here. But I could not see anyone experiencing the same problem with the Montana 760i. So please help me. Thank you in advance.

The 760i comes with world wide TopoActive maps coverage, but it comes with the region where you bought it preinstalled. So if you bought the device the US, it will indeed come with TopoActive North America installed. But as I said you can use Garmin Express to manage maps, i.e. remove the North America maps and install Europe maps.

How did you download the European maps? You can see what maps are installed by going to Map Manager > TopoActive Maps. Also see Managing Maps on the Montana 700 Series With Garmin Express.

I bought the device from the USA. Therefore, the European map was not loaded. I downloaded it to the SD card with Express, but strangely it does not appear on the device.

The device comes with TopoActive maps, so not sure why you bought the TopoActive Europe map?

As for installing and updating maps, this is best done with a computer and the Garmin Express program. The on-device downloads via Map Manager are slow and error prone.
