Has anyone tried to load a map image (Garmin .img) into the Inreach Mini 3 Plus Garmin folder in Explorer? The internal folders of the Mini 3 look much the same as other Garmin GPSs and it would be great to have better maps. (And yes I am aware it's a satellite communicator, not a navigating device as such :) )

When I send messages from the Messenger Plus directly or via the messenger app on the phone the recipient gets a link to my location as expected and as configured in the web interface. When I send a message directly with the messenger plus device via the InReach Remote on my Edge 1040 or my MARQ2 the message is missing the expected location link, is this something others have seen or does the InReach Remote work for others? Have I missed some magic setting somewhere on the Edge or MARQ2 that needs to be set to make this work correctly?

Looks like the new firmware 9.01 does not help. I did notice that when I send to an e-mail address, a location link is included but does not show the location when clicked on it. SMS messages are still missing the location information and link but the option to add my name is working

Hi Volker , thank you for your reply and the pictures, very helpful. Unfortunately the more option is not present in the MARQ2 InReach Remote and like you, I also cannot find it in the Edge 1040. When you send a message from the Edge 1040 does it automatically include the location for you?

This is for my Fenix 8, haven’t found it on my Edge 1040. Perhaps edge is using a different iR remote version?

Sorry for the late response: which setting have you set for “include location”. You find that setting under “more” in iR remote

Hmm, is it just me then? InReach Remote is kind of useless to me if the location info is not automatically added like it is when a message is (painfully) sent from the M+ UI

Is there anything more that I can do with an inreach messanger than sending emergency messages? What do I want to do: Show a track of what I want to do, show where I'am on this track, and leave messages on certain points. All things you could do with the mini, but not with the messanger?

Garmin is so bad with clear software, why did the change everything that worked wlll with the mini2?
I asked the shop if I can trade my messenger with the mini2, because at this moment I think the messanger is a big step back.

Yes, it is disappointing that it does nor show your intended course on a mobile browser. But, on your phone you can click an option to load the desktop version of the share site and then the course will be visible.

I don’t recall which plans include tracking points. This method uses the every ten minute tracking points and not live fracking.

we attempted to transmitt pict via new messenger plus, but this seems to be possible only to other messenger plus account. It can not be sent to email.

Is this so or did we miss something?

You are the best cmerrill, it took some practice, but I got it to work :-). The only strange thing is that on the webbrowser it works fine, but on the phone page it is not showing the route :-(.

I have one more question, if I may? I have the essential plan. I suppose it is included to set track points every 10 min? Or is this the live-tracking? Just to know that I don't get a very large bill at the end of my trip.

I create the course using Garmin Connect and export it to my Fenix 8.

Next, using Garmin Explore, go to the "Saved" tab and you will see the course you sent to the watch. Add that to the collection called "Mapshare" by clicking on the three dots to the right of the course name.

It takes a while, more that 15 minutes, for that to show up in the share.garmin.com/yourname site. But, it does eventually show up there. Then, your friends can see your progress vs the intended course as they track you on the share site.

I have both the Mini 2 and the Messenger Plus. I can do everything with the Messenger Plus that I could do with the Mini 2 except for the inadequate display of navigation prompts on the tiny Mini 2 screen. I have uploaded courses that are visible on Mapshare and had people track me. It worked the same with either device. I do all navigation and messaging using my phone with either device.

I agree that Garmin's documentation is terrible. But, with some digging, I got all of the tracking abilities of the Mini 2 to also work with the Messenger Plus.

The Messenger does not have the navigation capabilities of the Mini 2 so it does not support loading a course and showing your planned route on MapShare.

But for inReach functionality the device have the same features: SOS, tracking, weather and messaging. Messages can include a location. And others can view your tracking points via MapShare. And with both devices you can send messages to your MapShare page.

So if you need those navigation features, the Messenger is probably not the device for you.
