BUG: inReach is having trouble pop-up on H1

It happened multiple times that after waking up my H1, I get this popup.

It would be nice if it has inReach capabilities, but I doubt it :)

v13.08 latest.

Ik heb een H1iplus, maar geen abonnement en krijg deze melding om de paar seconden, zeer vervelend. Op advies van een waypoint medewerker in Nederland bleutooth uitgezet, nu blijft de melding weg. Gemeld bij Garmin support Nederland, zij adviseren een fabrieksreset. Uitgevoerd maar het helpt niet, dus voorlopig bleutooth uitgezet. Garmin zal wel snel met een oplossing komen, zoals gebruikelijk. :-)

Same for me on my GPSMAP H1 with firmware 13.08.

My H1 is useless now....

This is normal. Garmin has always used the lowest common denominator when it comes to anything USB hardware & interface related. You can always bet whatever Garmin uses will be MUCH slower than the norm. I don't know if this is by design but it has always been the case. Welcome to the world of Garmin's self-imposed USB limitations.

MicroSD Transfer Issue

Map transfer speeds to micro-SD card via Garmin Express (PC or Mac) are limited to 1.3 MB/s. This translates to >1Hr of transfer time for even the smallest TopoActive maps.

Garmin support: Is this a software bug? Hardware limitation? This (and all the other bugs; see daily threads) is unacceptable for a ~$1K device.

Please address.

GPSMAP H1 – “Download Maps Here” no longer works in software 13.07

Since updating to software version 13.07, the “Download Maps Here” function on the map no longer works as expected.

Steps to reproduce:

Open the map and navigate to a location other than the current position.
Press MENU and select “Download Maps Here”.

Actual result:
The map jumps back to the current position. Nothing else happens.

Expected result:
A selection frame should appear at the selected map location, allowing me to define the area and select the desired map layers for download.

This function worked correctly in software version 12.09.

Current workaround:
To download map layers for a different location, I now have to navigate through the following menus:

Map → MENU → Map Settings → Map Manager → Outdoor Maps+ → New Map → Use Map

Only then can I access the map area selection frame and choose the desired layers.

This is a regression in version 13.07 that makes downloading maps for locations away from the current position unnecessarily cumbersome.

Please investigate and restore the previous functionality.

Happens on my device with 13.08 as well. Selecting Download Maps Here from the map screen simply doesn't open the selection frame for selecting the map area to download.

Grüezi alle miteinander,

ich habe neu ein H1.

Mein altes Gerät ist ein 64st. Ich hatte die Möglichkeit auf dem Startbildschirm, meine Koordinaten zu erfassen. Ist das auf dem H1 auch irgendwie möglich?

Für Hilfe bin ich dankbar.

Do you mean the possibility to display a message on the boot up screen? That is also possible on the GPSMAP H1 by modifying the startup.txt file in the Garmin folder. Note that because the H1 uses MTP to communicate with a computer, you first need to copy the file to your computer, then edit it, and then copy it back to the H1. You cannot edit the file directly on the H1.

Hi,

I don't know exactly what do you mean, but you can set up a field displaying your location in coordinates (position type is defined in settings), or select mark location from the menu to store the current location to the waypoint.

Good morning LF,

I'm not sure if your engineers are working on the same Altimeter problem here ...

I'm talking about the BLUE EXPECTED / UPCOMING elevation plot when hiking a created route. The altimeter itself works fine for me but not the BLUE Expected altimeter profile when following a created route.

Maybe there is a problem with reading the DEM files belonging to the topo maps. Maybe for some reason they are not read anymore hiking a created route after a while, resulting in the BLUE expected Altitude profile to disappear. The DEM files cannot be found anymore during this hike; maybe a programming error on the directory/map stucture within the H1 hardware.

Background info on DEM files:

DEM files in your Garmin map directory stand for Digital Elevation Model files. They store terrain height and elevation data used by your device.

What They Do

• Hillshading: They provide 3D terrain shading and shadows on your map view to show mountains, valleys, and slopes.
• Elevation Profiles: They power the elevation graphs and plots for your hikes, runs, and bike rides (giving you actual height data instead of a flat line).
• Elevation Calibration: Your watch or device can use local DEM data alongside GPS signals to calibrate and improve starting altitude accuracy.

As I mentioned earlier in this forum subject;

"... Get a GPSmap H1 and also get a Garmin GPSmap 66sr (or 67)

Mark a waypoint on both GPSmap units, let say 5 km. away. Now create a Route to that waypoint on both units.

Compare the GPSmap H1 with the GPSmap 66sr or 67 and see what happens when you walk towards the waypoint. I can almost guarantee that you wil notice that, after a while, the expected Blue altitude profile disappears on the H1. When playing with + or - key or the rocker switch, sometimes the expected Blue altitude profile will show up.

The GPSmap 66sr (or 67) on the other hand, keeps showing the expected blue altitude profile without any issue ... You can use the + or - key or the rocker switch and still the altitude profile remains visible.

I'm (we are) just wondering, does the Garmin Response Team (Engineers, in this case)) has the same experience when this was mentioned earlier and does Garmin also use the Garmni 66sr or 67 to investigate this problem? Does the Garmin Response Team (Engineers) test / investigate the mentioned issues in a field situation?

Altimeter/Height Graph not working

Hi,

since I got the device, the altimeter graph is not working while navigating. Update to 10.13 did not change this.

Does anybody still have the same issue? Any way of workarounding it? Garmin, any plans for fixing this?

BUG: Can't write files larger than ~2GB to SD card via H1

Using Android File Transfer on macOS.

I can't copy files larger than cca 2GB to the SD in H1 over USB.

Card is exFAT formatted, everything works if I stick it directly to laptop, I can move files over 4GB (tested)., H1 then reads the map normally.

Also sometimes the SD card doesn't even get displayed as an option in Android File Transfer over USB. Reconnecting the cable helps sometimes.

Card used: 128GB Sandisk Extreme card

H1 on latest v13.08

I need three different apps to control the H1, so it would be great if one of them could sync the screenshots via BT to the phone.

BUG: H1 Settings - Activities: last two activity profiles have the same name

Opening Settings -> Activities.

The last activity profile is named "Other", but on this screen it takes the name of whatever activity is above it, in my case "Boat".

H1, latest v13.08.

Yep, I saw your post, maybe connected, but on all other places for me, the names are okay, so the last ... is labeled "Other" as it should be. Only this screen in settings duplicates it.

I encountered something similar with duplicate activity names, multiple Other activities and not being able to delete activities. See Activties names "Other" after updating to 13.07.

I had to do a factory reset to get the duplicatie activities issue resolved.

H1 BUG: Adding custom fields to glances, annoying pop-up

When I add my own fields to a new glance, I get a popup multiple times.. Clicking Yes multiple times does put me to edit glance and tapping No multiple times cancels it.

H1: System.getSystemStats().batteryInDays does not provide a usable battery-life estimate in a Connect IQ data field

App type: data field
Device firmware version: 13.08

Steps to reproduce
Install a GPSMAP H1 Connect IQ data field that reads System.getSystemStats().batteryInDays.
Add it to a Custom Page and view the page. Test again after starting an activity.
Compare it with System.getSystemStats().battery, which provides a battery percentage.

Expected
Because the Connect IQ SDK lists the GPSMAP H1 as supporting batteryInDays, the API should provide a usable remaining-life estimate when the device can calculate one, or document when an estimate is unavailable.

Actual
My version displays -- because it treats a null or non-positive batteryInDays value as unavailable. The separate battery-percentage field provides a percentage.

Installing regions of TopoActive maps does not work (13.08)

Not sure if this is specifically related to 13.08 or to updated TopoActive map metadata.

I noticed that Map Manager now lists individual TopoActive map subregions instead of the full TopoActive region. For example, TopoActive Europe is divided in Europe West, Europe Central and Europe East. Previously, only Garmin Express allowed you to install these subregions, and Map Manager only listed the full region. Which was kind of annoying because the full region for Europe is 11GB and takes multiple hours to download.

So I tested downloading individual subregions. However this doesn't work.

First I removed all TopoActive maps, to start with a clean slate. Then I downloaded TopoActive Europe West via the Map Manager (around 4,5GB). This worked correctly.

However, after downloading and processing this map, the Map Manager now shows two maps (I only downloaded one): TopoActive Europe (the complete region) and TopoActive Europe West (the region I actually downloaded). The former also shows an update is available.

Downloading another Europe region was not possible anymore: Map Manager didn't show the two remaining subregions anymore. So this basically makes downloading the different Europe regions via Map Manager impossible.

I know downloading maps via Garmin Express is faster and more reliable, but still I think downloading via Map Manager should work.

So Garmin, please fix this!
