Altimeter with Software Version 11.07

Hello,

When I read this in the changelog for software version 11.07:

“Fixed a possible issue with altimeter data during navigation,”

I was very hopeful that the altimeter would finally work while navigation is active.
So I went out for a short walk to see if the bugs had finally been fixed after so many software updates
Unfortunately, the whole thing ended very disappointingly.The device still doesn't displays the upcoming elevation profile during navigation.
Like before V11.07, the upcoming elevation profile appears for short moments and then disappears again.

To make matters worse, a new error has been added.
Even though I have muted all sounds in the system settings, the device now plays navigation prompts through the built-in speaker when I start navigation.
The only way to turn them off is to toggle the "Mute All" switch from "On" to "Off" and then back to "On."
Unfortunately, this procedure is required after each restart of the device to disable navigation prompts.

On top of that, the device crashed during my short walk after I left the route and it started recalculation.
Overall to me, version 11.07 represents a step backward compared to version 10.13.

So far, only the frequent random spikes seen in software versions before V10.13 have been fixed.

Barometric pressure trend with V11.07

Hello,

Since several software versions ago, we can record the barometric pressure trend even when the device is turned off.
This feature worked without any issues.

However, with version 11.07, this function is only partially working.
Sometimes it works overnight and sometimes it doesn't.

I have noticed this error twice since installing version 11.07 of the software.
When the device is turned off overnight, it only shows a straight line after turning it on again.

Anybody else has noticed this behavior?

There's no way to disable the function of pressing a button and it waking the display.

There should be a setting right under "Tap to Wake" for "Press to Wake".

"Press to Wake" enabled should make it so the display only turns on when the power button is pressed.

Both times I've taken the H1i for day hikes I put it in a front pocket of my shorts, and it's yet to fail to pull it out of my pocket and it's open on some random screen, it's even gone as far as stopping my activity and starting a new one...

Bug - Software Update 11.07 Map Layer selection now global across activities.

Looks like you fixed it too much since now when I select any map on any activity layer that map layer is active/inactive on any activity I select. Waited a whole month and the fix only inverted the pain. Easily testable too. Never should have passed out the door for stable release.

Difficult to swipe between satellite system pages in Satellite app with 11.07

With the recently released 11.07 update it has become very difficult to swipe between the pages showing each satellite system in the satellite app. Swiping to the next page works ok, but swiping to the previous page is very difficult and requires a swipe almost across the entire display. Using the left/right keys works fine.

Anyone else seeing this as well?

No manual synchronization via a configured Wi-Fi network

Hello,

When attempting to perform a manual synchronization via a configured Wi-Fi network, the error "No configured Wi-Fi" is received.

Although the device occasionally connects automatically to the configured network, manual synchronization with the "Wi-Fi Sync" function is not possible.

Adding a Wi-Fi connection directly on the device or via GCM works perfectly. However, manual synchronization does not work.

H1i plus and Avalanche beacon

In the avalanche beacon instructions, it is advertised to put on body and further away from the phone.

wondering anyone has experience with gps device and the beacon. Like, treated the same as cellphone, or can be put closer to the beacon? The gps is a device that receives signal only, not sending.

For Inreach , maybe turn off satellite tracking?

Or, maybe Inreach mini , 2 or 3 or 3 plus, is better for this situation for some reason?

I am trying to decide between three Garmin setups for solo hiking in remote and sometimes off-track areas.

Option 1: Two separate handheld devices

Garmin GPSMAP H1 for detailed mapping and navigation
Garmin inReach Mini 3 Plus for satellite communication, tracking and SOS

Option 2: One combined handheld device

Garmin GPSMAP H1i Plus for mapping, navigation, satellite communication, tracking and SOS

Option 3: Satellite communicator and GPS watch

Garmin inReach Mini 3 Plus for satellite communication, tracking and SOS
Garmin fēnix watch for navigation, route guidance and activity recording

My main question is whether the convenience of carrying one combined device outweighs the redundancy and independent battery capacity provided by separate devices. I am also wondering whether a fēnix watch could provide enough navigation capability to avoid carrying a dedicated GPSMAP H1.

From Garmin’s published specifications, the approximate battery figures are:

Battery life for the fēnix option would depend heavily on the particular model, GPS mode, map use and display settings, so I would also be interested in real-world battery results from people using a fēnix for multi-day hiking navigation.

The H1 and Mini 3 Plus setup seems attractive because I could use the H1 heavily for detailed navigation while keeping the Mini 3 Plus clipped to my body or pack with most of its battery reserved for communication and emergencies.

If the H1 failed, was damaged or ran flat, the Mini 3 Plus would still provide SOS, messaging and basic location information. Similarly, if the Mini failed, I would still have the H1 for navigation.

The H1i Plus setup would be simpler and lighter than carrying two handheld devices, but mapping, navigation, tracking, messaging and SOS would all depend on the same device and battery. Regular screen and mapping use could reduce the battery remaining for an emergency. Losing, damaging or experiencing a software issue with the device would also affect both navigation and communication at the same time.

The Mini 3 Plus and fēnix setup could provide independent navigation and satellite communication while potentially being lighter and more convenient than carrying both the H1 and Mini. However, I am unsure whether the smaller watch screen would be suitable for detailed navigation in remote or off-track terrain, particularly when identifying features, checking contour lines, changing routes or finding an alternative path.

I would expect a fēnix watch to work well for following a prepared course, checking direction and recording an activity. I am less certain whether it could realistically replace a dedicated handheld GPS when detailed map interpretation is required.

One figure I have been unable to find is the actual battery life after the SOS button has been activated. Garmin explains that an SOS begins interactive communication with Garmin Response and continues transmitting location information, but I cannot find a guaranteed SOS-mode runtime for either the H1i Plus or Mini 3 Plus.

Does anyone have real-world experience with battery consumption during an active SOS or prolonged satellite messaging? For example, if the device had 25%, 50% or 100% battery remaining when an SOS was triggered, approximately how long could it continue transmitting locations and exchanging messages?

I am also interested in the current software quality of the H1 and H1i Plus. I understand that the devices had a fairly rough launch, with reports of:

Random restarts or boot loops
Compass and heading problems
Courses disappearing or recalculating incorrectly
Incorrect elevation or ascent data
Inconsistent map and route-preview screens
Limited map-management options
Missing features and general interface bugs

Garmin has since released several firmware updates that appear to have added new interface layouts, larger data fields, directional arrows, additional map controls, keyboard improvements, animations and multiple reliability fixes.

For owners who have used the H1 since launch, has the interface and general reliability improved noticeably? Are you now happy with the device, or are reboots, compass issues, course-navigation problems and elevation-data errors still common?

For people who regularly hike solo in remote areas:

Would you choose the H1 and Mini 3 Plus for detailed handheld mapping, redundancy and independent batteries?
Would you choose the H1i Plus because the convenience and reduced equipment outweigh the single-device failure risk?
Would you choose the Mini 3 Plus and a fēnix watch as a lighter alternative?
Is a fēnix watch sufficient for off-track navigation, or is it mainly useful for following a planned route?
How close have your real-world battery results been to Garmin’s advertised figures?
Does the Mini 3 Plus offer a meaningful battery advantage during emergencies?
Has the H1 user interface and software reliability improved enough since launch?
Are there any major practical disadvantages to carrying and managing two separate Garmin devices?

At the moment, I am leaning towards the GPSMAP H1 plus the inReach Mini 3 Plus. My reasoning is that I could use the H1 as much as necessary for detailed mapping without draining the battery reserved for satellite communication and SOS. I would also retain emergency communication if the H1 failed and retain navigation if the Mini failed.

However, the Mini 3 Plus and fēnix watch option is also appealing if the watch provides enough navigation capability for remote and off-track trips without needing the additional handheld GPS.

I would appreciate opinions from anyone who has used any of these setups on multi-day, remote or off-track solo trips.

deleting a new marked waypoint causes a reboot

one quick way to see your coordinates is pushing mark. Doing so and immediately after then deleting the waypoint causes a reboot.

Steps to reproduce: press mark > menu > delete > enter. The device reboots and the waypoint is not deleted.

Anyone else?

Bug: Edited Glance resets to default data fields when power is cycled

To reproduce:

1. Go to the Hiking Data Fields Page

2. Long press a glance and then touch Edit Glance

3. Change the glance's data fields

4. Turn the device off and then back on

5. Go to the Hiking Data Fields Page. Edited glance has now been reset to default data fields!

Altimeter/Height Graph not working

since I got the device, the altimeter graph is not working while navigating. Update to 10.13 did not change this.

Does anybody still have the same issue? Any way of workarounding it? Garmin, any plans for fixing this?

Disable the inReach function / airplane mode?

Is there a way to disable the inReach function as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi?

I was on a plane recently and wanted to look at my tracks and photos. However, the H1 kept searching for Iridium satellites, as indicated by the two arrows in the status bar. I also noticed the increased battery consumption.

Garmin tactical watches, for example, have a stealth mode that disables these functions.

The H1 Plus is almost like a smartphone, so it really needs an airplane mode. Otherwise, you are effectively not allowed to switch it on during a flight.

@Garmin, is such a feature planned, or could it be added in a future update?

Satellite imagery won't display or download

Hi, on my Garmin H1i Plus updated to the latest firmware 10.13 , I'm trying to view satellite maps.

I select 'satellite", Topoactive, and nothing happens. I try to download them locally and it tells me the maps are already downloaded on the device (which isn't true).

Any suggestions?"

Why are the Data Field display options so limited and poorly implemented?

Basics first...

GPSMAP 66 and 67 allow you to display a maximum of 12 data fields on a screen.
H1 has a screen that is 40% bigger, so it allows you to display a maximum of (drum roll)...8 data fields .

Once again, Garmin plucks defeat from the jaws of victory!

It gets worse...

On my GPSMAP 67, I can have my data screen as one of my 'carousel' screens and flip between my map and my data (with 12 data fields) by a quick page/quit press.

On the H1 you can't swipe between map and data at all, because there is no full screen version of the data fields display. You have to quit back to the Home Pages to see any data fields.

Seriously Garmin, why make the functionality worse? Does anybody in software development actually use your equipment to hike with? Flipping between map and data is what I spend 99% of my time when using my GPS on a hike. This is a really basic requirement.

Please can we have a full screen, data field screen, that we can swipe between (like map, altimeter, satellite, compass, messenger, proximity alarms, barometer..etc...etc...)? On the H1, you can have just about anything as a full size, swipeable screen, except data fields!

Garmin Express (Windows, 7.29.0) does not recognize TopoActive Europe map regions after update to 2026.11

So this week TopoActive Europe 2026.11 maps were released after all the boot loop issues with 2026.10.

I had a lot of issues installing the maps on my H1, esp. with Garmin Express 7.29.1 on macOS. When I selected all three regions, only the first one would be copied to my H1, but other regions failed with an error message that TopoActive Eastern Europe 2026.11 and TopoActive Western Europe 2026.11 could not be removed... which doesn't make sense because they are not installed yet.

Also Express kept switching between offering versions 2026.11 and 2025.10 of TopoActive Europe...

Anyway I got the maps installed by using Garmin Express on a Windows computer.

But now, when I select manage maps in Express, with my H1 connected, Express only shows the Basemap as installed, and no TopoActive Europe regions (I don't have other regions on it). So apparently Express doesn't recognize that 2026.11 of TopoActive Europe is installed. Map Manager on the H1 shows that an update is available for Europe, but I already have 2026.11...

And, why isn't it possible to download individual regions via Map Manager on the device? All three Europe regions together are like 14GB, which takes a insane amount of time to download on the H1 itself.

Just venting here, but why does Garmin make this so frustrating...

Expedition mode satellite bug

Several times now I have experienced a bug where the device fails to obtain satellite signal after being put into expedition mode.

The device has satellite reception, is placed into expedition mode, and then some time later when bringing the device back online in regular full-power mode, it becomes apparent that it has not had any satellite connection (without warning) for an unknown amount of time and continues to fail to obtain any satellite signal whatsoever (zero across all constellations and bands), no matter how long I wait. The only solution I have found is to fully power off the device and turn it back on (to then see instantly numerous satellite signals). This is not an issue of obstructed view of the sky, but appears to be an issue with the radio module being shut down while in low power mode but not being brought back online properly.

This is, in my opinion, a complete show-stopping bug. I was fortunate to catch it early (by pure luck) when it happened several days in on a remote off-trail through-hike, but I lost hours of track data and no location data was sent via inReach. This has severely undermined my confidence in relying on the device for safety purposes.

Why no tides app for H1i+?

GPSMAP H1 Notification Sounds

I have a GPSMAP H1i that the notification sounds are working intermittently on. I have the latest 10.13 firmware installed. I've been testing the off course alert in the marine settings. The majority of the time the GPS just vibrates only and no sound. I've also noticed that when enabling WIFI when it the sound works, the gps displays a message about not all features work with WIFI enabled. Then the notification tone plays. That's not consistent when turning on the WIFI. If I set the tone to a different sound in the connect app with Bluetooth the GPS plays the notification tone every time it's changed. It works the same way on the device menus when changing the tone settings. I suspect notifications or alarms in general are having issues with this firmware. Is anyone else having problems with the sound alerts on the H1i?

Home Screen page transition not smooth

The last few firmware updates have added more animations and page transitions. However I find the transition between changing home screen pages by using the directional button not as smooth as using the touch screen.

When starting from the first home screen page, moving to the next page by pressing to the right on the directional key always gives a transition where the page seems to "bounce" a bit. When moving to the previous screen, the transition is smooth, except when you start from the last page. When you switch to next or previous starting from any page except first or last, the transitions both ways are not smooth as well.

connect iq does not show ciq apps

selecting the Connect IQ icon does not show the the Connect IQ apps. In my case, it does not show the komoot app. Instead it shows a field with the name of an activity type.

When pressing connect iq icon, it showed me an "app" named "track me". I was wondering how I got it and checked Connect IQ on the phone, But there was "tracks me" app in the IQ store. Connecting the H1 to Garmin express and selecting Connect iq therein showed me my activity types. I deleted "track me", and reopened Connect IQ on the H1. Then it showed another activity instead of Komoot.

I recognized this bug first in S/W 10.13

Calender app is laggy

The calendar app is totally laggy. It takes seconds to switch from one day to another. Holding the arrow key causes a long time till the cursor jumpes through all the days. You can't get out of the calendar app by pushing the quit button or page button before and have to wait till the cursors jumped through all the days.

I am not using the calendar. IMO it is a poor kind of calendar app. I opened it accidentally and had problems to quit it. I am not sure if this problem is since 10.13 or earlier version. But I thought it is worth to mention it.

Barometric plot issue with firmware v10.13

(Note that this is regarding the eTrex Touch (Gen 2) and not the H1 so it's unknown if this is solely an eTrex Touch issue but I thought I'd put it out here anyways)

Has anyone noticed the barometer acting very strange (as far at plotting the graph goes) with v10.13? After an initial full reset (which I do after every firmware update), everything is fine and the barometric plots match pretty much exactly what my eTrex 32x shows. Over time however, the plots start to take on a mind of their own and vastly start to deviate from what the eTrex 32x shows. The plot is no longer smooth with strange spikes and dips showing rather than a smoothly curved plot. It almost seems as if readings are taken at much greater intervals with perfectly straight lines between these intervals.

All barometer settings are set exactly to what the 32x is set to:

1. Barometer Mode: Variable Elevation
2. Pressure Trending: Save Always
3. Plot Type: Ambient Pressure

All X & Y axis settings are also set the same between the two units when viewing the plotted graph.

Something seems to trigger the beginning of the irregularity but I can't pinpoint it. It could be the new setting for the GPS Stationary Filter but it's not known to me at this time...and that also should have no effect on the barometer's settings.

It could be me powering down the unit as opposed to leaving it on (as I do with the 32x) but the Pressure Trending setting is set to Save Always...maybe the unit is not actually "saving always" when the power is off as it's supposed to be doing and as it was doing in previous firmware versions (when the Pressure Trending feature was added).

I don't recall this being an issue with previous firmware but I could be wrong.

Note also that the only way to get the barometer plotting back to normal (matching the eTrex 32x which I know is correct) after it gets into this "state" is to fully reset the unit, after which, something will again trigger it into misbehaving. A full reset is the only way I know of to clear out the barometric pressure readings and the plotted graph.

What GNSS accuracy values are you seeing?

Now that the H1i / H1i Plus have been out for 9 months, and the device having received multiple firmware updates, including updates of the GPS firmware, I'm wondering what kind of accuracy numbers others are seeing?

Coming from a GPSMAP 66sr and GPSMAP 67 (as most recent GPSMAP devices), I notice that both devices consistently displayed an accuracy of 1.8m in good conditions and with multi-GNSS and multi-band.

With my H1, not so much.

I usually have my device on Auto Select. When it's in multi-GNSS mode without multi-band, I get 3.0m as the best accuracy. The device receives satellites from GPS, Galileo and BeiDou, with around 10 satellites. Usually BeiDou has a bit more than the other two systems. And I noticed that with 10.13, there's no GLONASS reception.

When the device uses multi-GNSS with multi-band, I usually get no better than 2.3m but mostly 2.4m - 2.5m in my local test walk (in a neighborhood with low-rise housing, and some open areas, around latitude N52 and longitude E05).

So what are the experiences of other H1 / H1i users?

GARMIN\NewFiles do not see GPX file

On SD card into GARMIN\NewFiles. But on start device do not see it. Is any file naming restrictions?
