Grüezi alle miteinander,

ich habe neu ein H1.

Mein altes Gerät ist ein 64st. Ich hatte die Möglichkeit auf dem Startbildschirm, meine Koordinaten zu erfassen. Ist das auf dem H1 auch irgendwie möglich?

Für Hilfe bin ich dankbar.

MicroSD Transfer Issue

Map transfer speeds to micro-SD card via Garmin Express (PC or Mac) are limited to 1.3 MB/s. This translates to >1Hr of transfer time for even the smallest TopoActive maps.

Garmin support: Is this a software bug? Hardware limitation? This (and all the other bugs; see daily threads) is unacceptable for a ~$1K device.

Please address.

BUG: Can't write files larger than ~2GB to SD card via H1

Using Android File Transfer on macOS.

I can't copy files larger than cca 2GB to the SD in H1 over USB.

Card is exFAT formatted, everything works if I stick it directly to laptop, I can move files over 4GB (tested)., H1 then reads the map normally.

Also sometimes the SD card doesn't even get displayed as an option in Android File Transfer over USB. Reconnecting the cable helps sometimes.

Card used: 128GB Sandisk Extreme card

H1 on latest v13.08

I need three different apps to control the H1, so it would be great if one of them could sync the screenshots via BT to the phone.

H1 BUG: Adding custom fields to glances, annoying pop-up

When I add my own fields to a new glance, I get a popup multiple times.. Clicking Yes multiple times does put me to edit glance and tapping No multiple times cancels it.

H1: System.getSystemStats().batteryInDays does not provide a usable battery-life estimate in a Connect IQ data field

Steps to reproduce
Install a GPSMAP H1 Connect IQ data field that reads System.getSystemStats().batteryInDays.
Add it to a Custom Page and view the page. Test again after starting an activity.
Compare it with System.getSystemStats().battery, which provides a battery percentage.

Expected
Because the Connect IQ SDK lists the GPSMAP H1 as supporting batteryInDays, the API should provide a usable remaining-life estimate when the device can calculate one, or document when an estimate is unavailable.

Actual
My version displays -- because it treats a null or non-positive batteryInDays value as unavailable. The separate battery-percentage field provides a percentage.

BUG: H1 Settings - Activities: last two activity profiles have the same name

Opening Settings -> Activities.

The last activity profile is named "Other", but on this screen it takes the name of whatever activity is above it, in my case "Boat".

BUG: inReach is having trouble pop-up on H1

It happened multiple times that after waking up my H1, I get this popup.

It would be nice if it has inReach capabilities, but I doubt it :)

GPSMAP H1 – Reboot loop when connecting external power

When connecting external power to my GPSMAP H1, the device displays the following message:

“Turning power off in 30 seconds”, with the options “Turn off” and “Stay on” and a 30-second countdown.

Before I can select an option, the message disappears and reappears shortly afterwards.

Selecting “Stay on” does not solve the problem. The same prompt appears again.

Selecting “Turn off” leads to the following sequence:

The charging symbol appears on a black screen.
The power-off symbol appears on a black screen.
The device reboots.
The same prompt appears again, and the cycle repeats.

This creates a reboot loop when connecting external power.

I have observed this problem before, so it does not appear to be specific to software 10.xx or later.

While describing the issue, I remembered another relevant setting. Under Advanced Settings → External Power Off, there are three options: Prompted, Turn Off and Stay On.

The default setting is Prompted. I had previously changed it to Turn Off, but after my recent factory reset, it reverted to Prompted. It is easy to overlook settings like this after a reset.

However, even when Prompted is selected intentionally, the device should not enter a reboot loop. The prompt should remain available long enough to select an option, and the selected action should be executed correctly.

My impression is that the problem occurs when the battery charge is around 30%. I have not yet confirmed this conclusively.

For now, I will try to recharge the device earlier to avoid encountering the reboot loop, which reminds me of similar problems in early software versions.

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour, particularly at a battery charge level of around 30%?

H1 naming Outdoor Maps+ for the first time BUG 13.08

When trying to download a specific map with Outdoor Maps+ option, I set map name to "Podgrad SAT" and when it starts download it gets saved as "Programs SAT".
Same with "Bistrica SAT" to "Borders SAT".

Installing regions of TopoActive maps does not work (13.08)

Not sure if this is specifically related to 13.08 or to updated TopoActive map metadata.

I noticed that Map Manager now lists individual TopoActive map subregions instead of the full TopoActive region. For example, TopoActive Europe is divided in Europe West, Europe Central and Europe East. Previously, only Garmin Express allowed you to install these subregions, and Map Manager only listed the full region. Which was kind of annoying because the full region for Europe is 11GB and takes multiple hours to download.

So I tested downloading individual subregions. However this doesn't work.

First I removed all TopoActive maps, to start with a clean slate. Then I downloaded TopoActive Europe West via the Map Manager (around 4,5GB). This worked correctly.

However, after downloading and processing this map, the Map Manager now shows two maps (I only downloaded one): TopoActive Europe (the complete region) and TopoActive Europe West (the region I actually downloaded). The former also shows an update is available.

Downloading another Europe region was not possible anymore: Map Manager didn't show the two remaining subregions anymore. So this basically makes downloading the different Europe regions via Map Manager impossible.

I know downloading maps via Garmin Express is faster and more reliable, but still I think downloading via Map Manager should work.

So Garmin, please fix this!

GPSMAP H1i Software 13.08 – Altimeter and Navigation Issues Still Persist

I have tested both issues with software 13.08:

Altimeter Height Graph: Still not working.
Navigation: The previously reported navigation issues remain unchanged.

Both issues are still present in software 13.08.

Garmin, what has actually changed in software 13.08 compared to 13.07? The changelog does not seem to mention any new fixes or changes.

GPSMAP H1i Plus 13.07 – Incorrect route line display when navigating with routing enabled

n this test, I used an activity with routing enabled. Two visual inconsistencies are apparent:

Overlapping purple and magenta lines: The purple line is normally displayed when navigating without routing, whereas a magenta line is used when navigating with routing enabled. In this test, both lines are displayed simultaneously and overlap each other.
Incorrect magenta routing line: The magenta line does not follow the road correctly. Instead, two separate magenta lines lead to the first waypoint. From that waypoint onwards, the magenta and purple lines overlap more or less for the remainder of the navigation.

This is the second test mentioned in my other posts and should be considered alongside the previously reported routing and navigation inconsistencies.

GPSMAP H1 – Inconsistent Approaching Alarms

I noticed several months ago that the Proximity Alarm feature was not working reliably on my GPSMAP H1, but I did not investigate further because the behaviour seemed inconsistent.

In the past, I experienced cases where, after one expected proximity alarm failed to trigger, no further proximity alarms were triggered for the remainder of the activity. During today's walk, however, the behaviour was different: one alarm was missed, but subsequent alarms worked again.

I also received off-course alerts even though the recorded track followed the navigation line exactly. Navigation was running without routing.

I have not been able to identify a reproducible pattern so far. Any experiences or explanations from other GPSMAP H1 users would be appreciated.

GPSMAP H1 – correction and apologize - Proximity Alarm and its layer broken in software 13.07

The map layer for displaying proximity radius rings was introduced in version 10.13. However, with software version 13.07, the rings are already gone again. Quite a short-lived feature!

During today's walk, I created several waypoints with the Proximity Alarm enabled. None of the alarms were triggered, even when approaching the waypoints.

Additionally, the proximity radius rings are no longer displayed on the map, despite the corresponding map layer being enabled.

Looks like a regression in software 13.07. So much for that feature!

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

GPSMAP H1 – Distance to Destination does not decrease correctly (Software 13.07)

I have noticed an issue with the Distance to Destination data field on my GPSMAP H1 running software version 13.07.

During two separate walking activities, one started via Komoot Connect IQ and the other via Garmin Explore iOS, both with routing disabled, the displayed distance remained approximately equal to the original route length. It fluctuated slightly but never decreased significantly as I progressed along the route.

Even when approaching the destination (second test, walk around the block), the field still showed 702 m, although the destination marker was clearly visible nearby on the map (see attached screenshot).

The issue occurred with both navigation methods, so it does not seem to be specific to Komoot.

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour?

GPSMAP H1 – Buildings layer should be automatically disabled in Satellite View

When switching to Satellite View, the Buildings layer should be automatically disabled, as it is in Garmin Explore iOS.

On the GPSMAP H1, the Buildings layer remains active and overlays the satellite imagery. This significantly degrades the appearance of the imagery. For example, the roofs in Rome appear greyish or obscured instead of showing their actual colours and details. The Colosseum also looks rubbish with the Buildings layer enabled.

Disabling the Buildings layer manually restores the expected satellite image appearance.

Expected behaviour:
The Buildings layer should be automatically disabled when Satellite View is selected, consistent with Garmin Explore iOS.

Actual behaviour:
The Buildings layer remains active and must be disabled manually to display the satellite imagery correctly.

Please consider applying the same behaviour to the GPSMAP H1 for a consistent user experience.

Geocaching filter and unnecessary update

1. Do the geocaching filter settings work well for you? For me, renaming or deleting them is an incomprehensible mess. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to manage the filters.
2. The device isn't even registered with geocaching.com, but it constantly and endlessly tries to update the geocaching data. Software v13.07.

Ik heb een gpsmap h1iplus, na het updaten naar 13.07 krijg ik constant meldingen dat inreach is uitgevallen. Ik gebruik geen inreach en heb ook geen abonnement. Het scherm wordt constant grijs, ik moet op oké drukken om dit weer weg te krijgen, maar na een paar seconden is het weer terug. Onwerkbaar op deze manier. In de status balk zie ik een pijltje o omhoog en een pijltje naar beneden. Hoe los ik dit op?

GPSMAP H1 – “Download Maps Here” no longer works in software 13.07

Since updating to software version 13.07, the “Download Maps Here” function on the map no longer works as expected.

Steps to reproduce:

Open the map and navigate to a location other than the current position.
Press MENU and select “Download Maps Here”.

Actual result:
The map jumps back to the current position. Nothing else happens.

Expected result:
A selection frame should appear at the selected map location, allowing me to define the area and select the desired map layers for download.

This function worked correctly in software version 12.09.

Current workaround:
To download map layers for a different location, I now have to navigate through the following menus:

Map → MENU → Map Settings → Map Manager → Outdoor Maps+ → New Map → Use Map

Only then can I access the map area selection frame and choose the desired layers.

This is a regression in version 13.07 that makes downloading maps for locations away from the current position unnecessarily cumbersome.

Please investigate and restore the previous functionality.

Can't change Icon type and size when marking a new waypoint, always defaults to the annoying large target circle, instead of a small dot. You can see from the attached image that the waypoint ends up being ~80m in size! According to a support rep, you have to manually change the icon type and size each time any new waypoint created, otherwise you're stuck with the large target circle. Needless to say if you have multiple waypoints in a small area they all overlap and the ID isn't displayed. Can't believe a firmware update has not been done to correct this problem!

Activties names "Other" after updating to 13.07

After updating to version 13.07, the list of activities you can choose contains 6 entries called "Other". Both in the list accessed from the Home Screen with "Start Activity" and then selecting the large activity button, and via Settings app > Activities.

Deleting the activities from the activities list doesn't work, i.e. nothing happens when you select the trashcan icon. Changing to one of the Other activity types also doesn't seem to work, the currently selected activity stays selected.

Anyone else seeing this? How can I remove these Other activity types?
