serious sync issues between Garmin Explore Web, the Garmin Explore iOS app, and my GPSMAP 67i.

I am experiencing serious sync issues between Garmin Explore Web, the Garmin Explore iOS app, and my GPSMAP 67i.

The problems include:

Garmin Explore iOS fails during Syncing from Website / Collections.
Collections created or organized in Garmin Explore Web do not reliably appear in the iOS app.
Garmin Explore Web, the iOS app, and the GPSMAP 67i show different data.
The app sometimes syncs from GPSMAP 67i and pulls old tracks/routes/courses/activities back into the app.
When syncing to/from the device, the app shows warnings such as “Syncing large amounts of data might be slow.”
The device still shows old data such as Cycling-related data, while the Web setup has been cleaned.
After syncing, data that appeared from Web can disappear again from the app.
Device sync and Web sync appear to conflict. At one point the app showed “Web sync is disabled while syncing to the device.”

I have already tried:

Turning off GPSMAP 67i
Turning off iPhone Bluetooth
Reinstalling Garmin Explore iOS
Trying both Wi-Fi and mobile data
Cleaning Garmin Explore Web so only very few items remain
Syncing Web to app before syncing the device
Removing recently added items and retrying sync

Despite this, the Garmin Explore iOS app, Garmin Explore Web, and GPSMAP 67i still do not reliably stay in sync.

This makes the GPSMAP 67i unreliable for preparing and syncing planned routes/collections for trips. I need a safe way to make Garmin Explore Web, the app, and the device match, without old device data overwriting or removing my planned trip data.

Anyone have issues with suspended accounts reactivating?

Finally got over beeing butt hurt about cancelling the freedomw plan, and making me pay $35 to reactiate my devide for thier Freedom-ish plan. Glad they chose to go that route because so many dont need an annual. I paid $35, reactivated for 1 month, then after backpack trip I suspened it. Today I get a bill for next month with an option on my account to Suspend (again)? Did I miss something - doez suspend just mean diasable but you are still paying?

Shonky maps

Have loaded Shonky maps onto Basecamp on my desktop computer, but won't download into 67i. I've seen comments about this from some year back, but wondering if anyone has more recent and successful work-around?

GPS about 30m off

I have noticed this twice now. After using my GPSmap 67i for a few hours the gps is at once way off.

We went for a little walk this evening to find a cache. The gps worked fine until the last waypoint. We were on the right spot and according to the gps we were 30m away from that waypoint.

In the hurry of that moment I didn't notice the fault right away, but being home in my backyard I see the gps is still way off.

Multi-GNSS is selected and Multi-Band is on. According to the Satellite page there could be a variation of 1.8m. On the map I can see the gps is at least 30m off.

Switching the device off and on solves it directly. I had the same experience yesterday (not caching or walking at that time, just playing with this new toy at home), so it is not just a one time glitch.

I wonder if someone else has this experience as well and I hope someone can tell me I can solve this behavior by myself.

Hello I really enjoyed reading your blog posts frim your previous posts.

When I read the part about deadband filtering, it reminded me of something I noticed during another comparison that I made in my free time while doing roller skating.

I own numerous Garmin watches and at that point I was using my Forerunner 955, Fenix 7X pro, and tactix Delta which is like a Fenix 6x pro.

Rollerblading was not included in the default list of available activities, so I customized the track me activity to record it.

It was surprising that the forerunner used to create a very jagged track, while the fenix 7X used to make a very smooth track. They are both identical watches as far as the hardware and even software features go.

If I would record a walk activity the tracks came out the same.

I think the Forunner was using unfiltered data during the track me activity.

I think it is because forerunner devices are designed for faster response to instant pace changes so the GPS pipeline may be faster with less averaging.

The tactix also had smooth track me trails but it uses a Sony chipset that was less precise and would eat up a lot of real deviations anyway.

For all activities other than track me, I do not recall the jagged saw tooth like tracks.

I have sold the Forerunner and replaced it with an instinct 2X as my black plastic watch. This seems to create slightly smoother tracks than the Fenix 7X. Probably due to energy and memory conservation.

However I still have the Track Me activity files from my 955. I will be happy to share them if you are interested.

I was able to download software version 9.4 directly to the device via wifi today. Not sure what it fixed or has caused yet.

Collections of point, tracks and related items stored on cards.

I have several collections. Each one includes a custom map with associated tracks & waypoints. All of them loaded on the 67i can get really exhausting trying to find just the ones I want. It occurred to me that I could store each group of associated points, tracks, custom map or other items on separate cards and just load the card for the group I want to use.

This idea should work right?

I know I have to transfer the maps using File Explorer I already tested that and they work great. But the other items I believe I have to move to the card with Basecamp.

Does the 67i play nicely with switching cards out while in the field? Anything I need to keep in mind to do this? Any "gotcha's"?

If it is a 67i (inReach with an active subscription), login to your account and from the Map tab (explore.garmin.com/Map), select "Locate" or "Track"

Since it is a receiver and not a transmitter, I don't see how it could be traced to a location.

I had the same issue, and tried resetting the Authentication domain to USA, but "no joy". And within Garmin Express I also verified my account on the Garmin website was valid, and that the purchase of the new maps showed up under my account.

But what I did try differently: (1) ensured Garmin Express can run in the background (macOS), and (2) reset the email address for the Garmin device (I had changed my Garmin account email address about 3 months ago). Both of these together seemed to do the trick, and I'm now downloading the new map to my device.

Of course, "your mileage may vary", but just something else to try when you get this error message. :-)

GPSMAP 67i Garmin Express error: "We're having trouble retrieving all your purchased content"

I purchased a Garmin downloadable map bundle (Topo US 100k), received the confirmation from Garmin by email and proceeded to Garmin Express to activate/install the downloadable content to my shiny new GPSMAP 67i. I got the message "We're having trouble retrieving all your purchased content" in Garmin Express. Garmin on-line help suggested logging out and back in to my account in the Garmin Express 'Purchased' tab. That did not work; the error message continued.

Taking a cue from all the other posts associated with weird connection issues I did the following:

made sure my Mac had the current MacOS (it did)
double checked that the map bundle is compatible with the GPSMAP 67i (it was)
verified that the microSD card in my unit had sufficient memory to accept the download (it did)
made sure that my GPSMAP 67i had synced at least once to load the latest software to the unit
deleted all Garmin devices I own from Garmin Express
unpaired the device from my iPhone and completely deleted all Garmin Apps and associated data
deleted all Garmin devices in my iPhone bluetooth list
deleted Garmin Express and reinstalled to make sure I had the latest version
made sure I was signing in to Garmin Express with the same user/password combination as was used for the purchase of the map bundle.

I connected the MPSMAP 67i to my Mac, started up Garmin Express, and Garmin Express proceeded to recognize my device and set it up as a new device. And yet again was the message "We're having trouble retrieving all your purchased content". Fast forward through a day of checking/rechecking/deleting/resetting/disconnecting/repeating. (With and without my VPN active)

Here was the solution: In Garmin Express SETTINGS (Settings>>Advanced>>Garmin Connect Authentication Domain) I observed that it was undefined. I selected United States (where my VPN currently shows me as visible). Pressed 'Save'. Returned to the 'Purchased' tab of Garmin Express. Signed Out. Signed In, and there was my map bundle ready to download to my device. I didn't see that solution in other posts and thought it might save others a LOT of grief.

I had similar issues just getting the Battery widget to download/install--the online advice to remove all phone pairings except for Garmin Connect/IQ worked well.

correct me if I am wrong, but i use LiveTrack and just send and receive vs SMS to others, no need to use Messenger app. Is there a reason you use the Garmin Messenger app?

I was able to download V9.35 today via the Explore app., and installed it on my 67i. It has corrected the issue of locking up the device when in expedition mode. Any additional improvements or problems created by this update, I can’t confirm at this time.

Ever since I updated to v. 9.34, once in expedition mode, I cannot wake it up by blipping the power button--blank screen, flashing green LED. Only way to recover is to keep power switch depressed until it forces a restart. There was an update a few years ago that also blew up expedition mode and they had to release a fix fairly quickly. Anyone else with this problem? There are two reasons I've stuck with my 67i--battery life via expedition mode and the ruggedness of the physical unit. But Garmin just shot down half my reasons with another ill-configured update? Help!!

OK, it looks like they are in the process of releasing v. 9.35. I caught it on a download on Garmin Express this morning, successfully updated my 67i, and so far it appears that Expedition Mode is back to working normally. No release notes yet nor formal announcement, but happily, it looks like the fix is progressing well. Yay!

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to add that a year later, with the 67i, that I see similar errors. I'm using the unit in Yuma, Az. returning to the same sampling points in Nov 2024 and Jun 2025. We are planning to return to the same points in Jun 2026. So I will be curious, what results I get when compared to the mapped point (ArcGIS Pro) and a new Bad Elf Flex GPS unit.

Yeh, Garmin also blew up expedition mode with a firmware update about four years ago, and that time I was in the middle of a weeklong elk hunt. As good as the hardware is, the software suite is ridiculous and seems to be a lot of digital baling wire. If you’ve not called support yet, please do. The more affected customers they know of, the higher priority they may put on it. Support staff are great and easy to work with. Thanks for the comment!

I could not force a restart on mine no matter what I did. It was totally dead. I had to plug in the charger cable connected to my charger to wake it up. Good thing I was at home and not on a trip without a power source or I would have been screwed big time. This is actually a dangerous bug. It can turn your device into a total useless device on a trip without warning if you are unaware the issue exists.

Thank you! I've stuck with the Garmin/InReach solution because your hardware is ridiculously solid--trusting my life in the outback to the fragility and lousy battery life of an IPhone is nonsense in my view. But golly--this is the second time a firmware update derailed Expedition mode, which obviously undercuts the huge advantage the 67i has in battery life. So I appreciate prompt efforts to resolve this glitch!

Yes it seems like it is almost fake advertising to me. If you advertise 4 band positioning and full redundancy it is at least weird and probably false advertising to claim that functionality. I will do some testing. We have full testing and jamming suite in the lab. I will put it in the chamber and provide only individual bands as signal source without gps. When it does locate, its fine. If it only triangulates position based on GPS and uses the rest for higher precision it would kindly ask Garmin to take it back.

Hey everyone, im a hiker, explorer but also a developer and innovator.

As part of that i am working in ukraine to support some critical efforts there.

In Ukriane and especially in zones like that (not my only difficult place) and especially in support zones the GPS signal is spoofed and jammed. (both).

Now i have specifically bought the 67i as the support and outdoor rep that i interviewed for 1 hour said that it works for positioning AND messaging over multiple avilable constallations.

GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, and *IRNSS.

BUT the reality was that the moment GPS is gone (spoofed and or jammed) i can no longer even use the device. It will jump to the false gps location even though it got good lock on and true position on some of the other constellations (e.g. Galileo).

So how to fix this?

Is there a solution for priority overwrite? Can i disable a channel? Can i force localisation over other networks?
