Z30 compatibility with Forerunner Watches

Are there any plans to make the Z30 compatible with the forerunner watches via future software updates? Currently own a forerunner and golf quite a bit. Would love to be able to use the z30 but currently doesn’t have the right compatibility.

I’d love this too, it’s unfortunate because I don’t think Garmin realizes how many of us buy the Forerunner over the Fenix just because of the weight. I find the Fenix too heavy/bulky/uncomfortable. I would like more golf features on my $750 Forerunner 970.

Approach S62 and Z30

Specifically on par 3, the distance from Z30 immediately opens the green display mode on my S62 with the distance to the pin. I press the back button on the S62 to return to the course display, the distance displayed is different from what was previously displayed on the Z30. Do you have any suggestions regarding this

Approach 62 & Z30

I have the Approach 62 and just purchased the Z30 rangefinder.

As i understand the interactions between the watch and rangefinder I expected that the pin distance from front and back would appear on my watch. That is not happening. All that shows up is the distance to the pin.

I also understood that once i shot the pin the watch would adjust the distance to the pin as i move closed. That is also not happening.

When i paired the rangefinder and watch it seems that they do not stay connected. If I check the connection status on the watch it shows as searching for the Z30. Only when I press the power button on the Z30 does the connection occur and it is dropped a few second later. Perhaps this is intended to save battery life?

Please advise.

Perhaps this is the difference in distance between GPS and Laser Rangefinder. I don't know why this only happens on par 3.

I have multiple times shoot the flag where it's 20 yds downhill, and it'll show me uphill on the slope. It's not always, but often enough that now I can't trust it. I know how to shoot a flag and I'll borrow my buddy's bushnell and it'll be correct. The actual distance is fine? But the slope calculation is frequently off. Maybe it's time for a warranty exchange

On occasion, my z30 slope adjustment seems broken or im not understanding if it is adding wind/weather factors. I have it paired with s50 and premium maps subscription.

On many times, i would be staring at an obviously downhill flag and the range finder would have an up arrow and indicate it is playing a yard longer than the laser measure and vice versa. Not a gps or wrong hole issue. Is there something else it is factoring that isnt in the documentation? I know if its paired to s70 it could do wind. But I just have the s50.

Other than re-lasering the flag a couple of times...it should factor in the slope from there, Per my first reply, moving objects behind the flag may affect the acquisition of the flag like trees if the wind is blowing.

Helpful to know! Then there are definitely times the slope is just not correct. Cannot figure out why. Its not an accidental buzzing of a wrong target. I've had a few times where a flag that is obviously uphill or downhill have the z30 tell me otherwise. Any other thoughts like perhaps its not zeroing out what level is correctly?

The Z30 does not factor wind into the distance lasered. Lasering the flag provides the arc to the watch and the watch provides the distance info to the point lasered (flag) to the front of the green, and from the flag to the back of the green.

PlaysLike Distance on the watch may factor into the relay when paired depending on whether or not slope is a factor...but wind speed distance is not.

Try lasering the green again to ensure the flag was locked on adequately in case the distance ranged was skewed due to objects in the background moving, like trees.

I have the same problem. So wonky at times and can't be trusted. How can I turn the wind calculation off? I don't need it adjusting that for me. Just give me slope and i'll figure out the rest.

Are you seeing the distances to the front middle and back showing correctly when only viewing from your watch? (without lasering using the Approach Z30).

If just the watch is showing incorrect yardages and when you are standing on the green, if the watch is not zooming into the green view with one singular distance showing for certain holes...then I recommend submitting a golf course report through the link here: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/golf-courses/?a2=US&state=&new=false&upd=false&cnt=false&q=&addr=

Basing what the laser arc is showing only would not be an indication of the course map being incorrect...but if the actual mapping without the laser arc is showing incorrect, the course report process can be followed.

If you have examples of this with photos, and the issue is not related to the course map you are viewing solely on the watch...please direct message me and we can get some additional info from you to look into further.

Who do I ask to get a course remapped. I have a few holes at my course where the flag on the watch does not represent the correct position on the green.

If the front and back distances are not correct for the green then where the arc is may not be on the green. We had a pin position a few days ago where the are was showing just on the front edge of the green but the flag was closer to the middle of the green. I just think on my home course that some of the greens are just not mapped correctly.

The flag position will not be specifically marked on the green view, as the distance from where you are standing is linear when ranged. The flag position must be manually marked on your watch in green view from left to right for its specific position on the green.

Lasering the flag using the Z30 will only mark an arc overlay, but will not specifically set the location left to right on the map of the green view...as it has no concept of left or right, only distance in a straight line.

The concern you mentioned would not be indicative of a mapping error, so a map correction would not be needed in this instance.

Z30 front and back distances

I've found that when connecting the Garmin golf app (Android) with my Garmin Z30 range finder, if my phone screen goes to sleep mode, the range finder no longer shows the yardages to the front and back of the green. My only option is to make sure my phone screen is active for the entire round. Is this a known issue or user error?

I am considering buying the Z30, particulary I am interested in the feature of getting the distance from the pin to the front and back of the green. I am however not quite sure how this is working.

To my understanding, the Z30 measures the distance to the pin only, it does not give you any GPS coordinates of the pin. So how can it give you the distance to the front and back? What about the "angle" of your shot? If there is a tight pin close to the back edge from a north/south perspective, what numbers will the Z30 give you to the "back" if you shoot from "the west" side of the green? Then you could potentially have a lot of room on both sides of the pin (east/west). Help me understand how this feature work please.

I’m really enjoying the Z30, especially the distance from front/back to the flagstick in the ranging display. I did notice on quirk that I’d like to fix. When I shoot the flag, the yardage to the front and back of the green disappears from the watch face on my S70. Is there a setting I’m missing to retain that? It would be nice to have those numbers on the watch.

How does range relay work? I have the latest update for Z30 installed and it is synced with the Golf App with all my distances but I cannot see the Range relay or my position in the app? What do I need to do? The iPhone location setting is set to Always.
