S72 without subscription

PawelRed — Sun, 18 Oct 2026 10:37:20 GMT

If you don't decide to buy subscription plan what are advantage to use S72 over S70 ?

I spotted following things:-

- Flashlight - which is not useful at golf course at all.

- Drive Range features - seems like a toy rather than reliable tool.

- pulsrate graphs during golf round - another nonsense, besides S70 has also puls rate monitor

- titanium bazel and sapphire glass - another useless improvement , at least in golfing

- textile strap - known from S50. Nice, but is it improvement ? Everybody can buy similar strap at 20$ and mount it in S70

- extended shot analyses - how is it related to new watch model ?

Three and half years of waiting for new model ! For me it is a big disappointment. It looks like Garmin don't care of Approach line . Instead they incorporate all the same golf features in more expensive Fenix line.

I'll agree the S72 isn't a big change. If it was it would be the S80, which we might see in 3 years.

The swing analysis is new, seems like it could be very good data. Garmin said it won't come to the S70 as the S72 has the new hardware to capture all the motion data.

That seems like it could be great data and a good new feature. Same goes for the driving range swing analysis.

I'm not hating the S72, but for now not liking enough to pick one up. I'll wait for reviews and feedback from users. Might be lots of bugs.

Reading your putts function accuracy

PawelRed — Fri, 16 Oct 2026 15:23:23 GMT

I red many times on Gramin Approach forums distance accuracy is plus/minus 2m. How it is suddenly so precise to advise line of putting ? Even it was 5 cm inaccuracy makes tremendous difference while putting. What is going on ? are Garmin people ever play golf ?

Garmin Approach S72 – Great Watch, Disappointing Band Fit and Customer Service

Great Watch, Disappointing Customer Service and Band Fitment

I purchased the new Garmin Approach S72 directly from Garmin on launch day, excited to get my hands on their latest golf watch. Unfortunately, my excitement was quickly met with disappointment before I could even properly wear it.

The included nylon band doesn’t separate like a traditional watch strap. Instead, it’s designed as a continuous loop that you slide over your hand. The problem is that even fully loosened, the opening is too small to comfortably fit over my hand. My wrist isn’t the issue; it’s getting the watch over my palm and fingers.

Yes, the watch has a QuickFit release mechanism, so technically I can detach the strap from the watch every time I put it on or take it off. But that’s hardly convenient, nor is it how the band was intended to be used.

I contacted Garmin support on the very first day I received the watch, simply asking if they could exchange the included band for a longer or more accommodating option.

After going back and forth with support, the best they could offer was a 30% discount on another strap, bringing the cost to approximately $42.

While I appreciate the discount, I find it disappointing that after spending around $800 on a brand-new flagship watch, I’m expected to spend additional money just to wear it comfortably. I wasn’t asking for a free accessory or an upgrade. I was simply hoping Garmin could accommodate a customer whose hand doesn’t fit through the included band.

I’ve always held Garmin in very high regard, and I still enjoy their products. My disappointment isn’t with the watch itself, but with the customer experience and how this situation was handled.

In my opinion, when you’re selling a premium product at this price point, accommodating different hand sizes should be something the company considers, especially when the included band has such an unconventional design.

For anyone considering this watch who has larger hands, this is something worth being aware of. Even if your wrist falls within Garmin’s advertised sizing range, you may still have trouble getting the included band over your hand.

I’m still looking forward to using the watch, and I ultimately accepted the discounted replacement band because I’d rather enjoy my purchase than continue going back and forth with support.

Not angry, just disappointed. Garmin makes excellent products, but I expected better customer care from a brand I’ve always considered top-notch.

If you are referring to Golf features from the new Approach S72, at this time these features are only available on the S72. Garmin is always looking for way to improve their products. For this, we would recommend submitting this recommendation here: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/

Sports available on S72

There has been a gap between the sports that are offered in other watches and the Approach line. I see that multisports is not supported in the S72. Is there a list of all the other available sports?
