Touchscreen Not Working After Update – Factory Reset Temporary Fix for S62

’d like to share my experience regarding the touchscreen issue on the Garmin Approach S62, which I believe in over 90% of cases is caused by a software problem.

If your touchscreen becomes unresponsive after a software update (often triggered by pairing with an iPhone), factory resetting the device multiple times can temporarily restore functionality.

Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Perform a factory reset — not just once, but 3 to 5 times if needed.

  2. Wait at least 5 minutes after each reset is complete. The touchscreen may suddenly start responding during this time.

  3. Once the touchscreen is working, go through the initial setup but DO NOT pair the watch with your phone.

  4. If you pair it with a phone, the watch will auto-update the firmware again — and the touchscreen will most likely stop working again.

Unfortunately, I haven’t yet found a way to install an older firmware version, which I believe would solve the issue permanently. But until then, this workaround has allowed me to at least get the touchscreen working again.

Hope this helps others experiencing the same issue.

  • my S62 is also crap. Bought it in late 2023, 6 mths later, it died on me. Brought it to service center, replaced a refurbished unit for me under warranty. A year later in 2025, the replacement S62 touch screen died as well. Garmin won’t replace it unless I pay the replacement fee, which cost around 40% of a new S62 currently being sold. Thats not acceptable. Is Garmin product really that unreliable nowadays? Or is it just the S62 that’s crappy since there are so many having touch screen issues.

  • I know, right?   I mean........ damn

  • How did you do a factory reset if the screen doesn’t work?

  • My S62 touch screen stopped working after software upgrade. Garmin is the most unhelpful company I came across. As many users noted, they are asking for money for their software bug and replace it with a refurbished watch, which I'm sure will have he same crappy software update. This almost sounds like a scam. Remember Apple tried to do a similar thing by degrading the battery life of their batteries or something sometime ago. The decent thing for a big company like Garmin to do is to admin there is software bug, release a fix or replace the watches for free. They were offering discount to buy a new version of this watch, that suggests people are moving away from Garmin and this may be one way of roping people back in. I have dealt with other companies like Callaway, they are absolutely brilliant, excellent customer service. I will be shopping for a new watch, DEFINITELY NOT Garmin. Such a disappointing experience with this company.

  • How can it be possible that you are so drastically 'missing' the point here? The common theme is that the watches are fine, and then due to an update (quite often unwittingly completed) the watch is literally a paperweight. After each restore / factory reset attempt, there is not even the option to get past stage 1 and select the language, and yet you are here telling people to go through the menu options? It is clearly a software update that you (Garmin) have pushed on to your customers that is freezing the watches - what we need to know is what Garmin is doing about it, and perhaps even a link / guidance to revert back to the old software version. Look forward to receiving an update on that
