Approach S40 SW 2.50 menu images

There is not so much info about this product yet. So I purchased one today and took some images from the software...

I have also S60 but wanted to have a watch that can survive two 18r rounds. Sometimes S60 has managed to do that but normally not.
Battery lifes S60 10 h vs. S40 15 h
At least I can use one while other is in charger :)

I have not tested this at golf course yet.

Other benefits in S40, I think
- show distances to hazards etc.
- "Big number" may be more useable (in S60 I don't like that the shot distance is hidden when using this)

Sure there are many things missing too but they are mostly related to something else than Golfing.

  • Few comments to details that are in S60 but not in S40

    Full-color Course Maps
    - perhaps nice feature if you are on new course
    - but in that case I use phone app, maps are better and easier to use
    PlaysLike
    - I have possibly tested once
    - typically my rounds are HCP rounds and I assume this feature is not allowed
    Touch Targeting
    - sounds good but I have only tested briefly
    - not very easy to use with my fingers
    SwingTempo & TempoTraining
    - Tempo function I have used few times during range training
    - but I don't know if I have learned anything and I can easily live without this
    - results are not saved anywhere
    PinPointer
    - I think I have newer even tested this
    Handicap Scoring
    - Perhaps tested once, not missing
  • Now also field tested. I wanted to check how does the main screen look after driving.

Normal mode and Big number mode. Both modes show the distance from driving. Normal mode shows also the distances to green. In Big screen mode these are on next page.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1472347.jpg
  • Otherwise the S40 didn't bring up any strong feelings. It worked well and basic operation is very much like S60. I am not sure how much I will use the Bunker/Water/... distance info, now I used it few times, once for bunker and couple of times for water.

I didn't test the battery properly, I don't remember how much power I had before the round. I thought I had about 80% in the beginning but I am not sure. There was 71% remaining after the 3 h, 18 holes round. Loosing only ~10% during that round - too good to be true? Anyway very promising.

I think Auto shot detected full swings well, but chipping not so well. I have understood that S60 should be better in this, having more sensors to detect shots.

I used SportsTracker app in my Apple watch. Both S40 and SportsTracker recorded exactly same total distance 8.25 km.

  • I used both S40 and S60 today. Both seemed to detect AutoShots quite well and very similarly. Above I wrote about some issue S40 detecting chip shots, well I didn't notice issues today.

The battery life in S40 looks very good. Both S40 and S60 were fully charged about an hour before golf round. After the round there was remaining
    S40: 77%
    S60 49%
    The 18r round took 4h 5min.

This battery life was the main reason why I purchased the S40 - no disappointment.

In S60 I didn't input putts, so that part looks different on the scorecard. Perhaps this has some impact on last shot distance too, not sure. https://youtu.be/Urv1ttz3QtE
  • Just noticed that S60 recorded ~1 km longer distance. When checking the track I didn't find reason for this. Rather the S40 track looks longer, perhaps because the S40 track seems to have more details.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1472707.jpg
  • O man, I wish this had Pinpointer. I really liked that on the S60 when hitting a blind 2nd shot.
