Don’t think this one was mentioned before. This is my new favorite Home Tee Hero course in Hawaii. The mountains and countryside in the background look great. Various trees including palm trees, shrubs & weeds, all look very good. The course has plenty of water, forced layups, and elevation changes too. This is a super fun one to play. Here are a couple pics. Please forgive the quality of my projector and my pics.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a list of the best done courses on Home Tee Hero on the R50?

I've noticed that a lot of my local courses just have stock backgrounds and the same trees, and that's to be expected since theres 40,000+ courses. But I have noticed that some more famous courses (particularly Kapalua and other PGA courses) have better detail in the backgrounds, palm trees, etc. I find when I have buddies over it's fun to play those types of courses that really show off the R50.

Home Tee Hero on the R50 is great! Keep it up Garmin.

V5.0 Good update, basics still missing

A lot of good first steps in this upgrade with a number of new bugs that I'm sure will be fixed soon, but still a lot of basics missing.

- Ability to set Favourite courses. Ability to rate the course after you play it. With 42k courses, there's a lot to keep track of.

- Save multiple unfinished rounds. My kid comes in while I'm playing a round and wants to continue the round we started yesterday. Save my round and play a few holes with him and go back to my saved game.

- Longer impact video. Before and after Impact.

- Putting Greens in practice ranges.

- Restore the number of data metrics shown on the display. The tiles were made larger in the last update which resulted in fewer metrics shown and the need to continually scroll.

- This one might not be so basic but would be the biggest upgrade. Face impact location heat map

Version 5.0 bugs. Screen orientation rotated as well as hitting area

Version 5.0 buggy. GS Pro app keeps switching from landscape to portrait randomly and misreading shots. When it rotates it also changes the hitting area.

I have to exit out of the GSPro connector and reenter for it to work. Why is charging orientation in the first place? This is unacceptable for a $5k device.

They seem to be using code from the phones I guess. Happened to me on Awesome Golf too.

I agree. This sucks. I spent way too much money on this device for it to work this poorly. I guess I will wait 24 hours and see.

The unit upgraded to version 5.0 and the ability to connect to 3rd party software does not display any options.

When the device is on, I navigate to Connect option and select. The screen does not show any options including GSPro, Awesome golf, etc ..

I tried restarting, shutting down and then starting. I reset my network connections and downloaded courses for Tee Hero. Same issue

The connections are available now and mostly working. There are still significant issues. Occasionally it will not register a strike and the screen goes blank and then changes from portrait to landscape on the display. Still seeing weird behaviors across the board.

Update September 8, 2026:

Hello. We understand the frustration, if you are experiencing trouble with the latest update. There were some pretty substantial changes made between the Approach R50 and it's interaction with 3rd Party Connections. The unit does a check every 24 hours to refresh the connections, and in the scenario that check has taken place, because the changes were so substantial, it's effectively resetting those app connections. This has been resolving itself by waiting for the next check to take place, typically between 12-24 hours depending on how long it's been since the last check. We expect this will resolve itself on it's own for you, however if the issue is still there, please let us know and we'll take a look at the issue for you

I ran the update today. Seemed to download ok. Played 9 holes in Home Tee Hero, and then hit some balls on the practice range to try some of the new update features. All looked and worked well.
Then figured I’d play 9 holes on Awesome Golf. But when I clicked on the connect screen it was blank (see below). I shut down and restarted the R50 a couple times, but that didn’t help. Anyone else having this issue, or is it just my machine?

i have the same issue. i assume everyone who got the connect apps back left it connected to wifi overnight?

My connect screen options didn’t populate for almost 24 hours. How much time has passed since you ran the update?

My big issue is when I hit a worm burner in Home Tee Hero that the R50 doesn’t read. When I put the ball back in the hitting area, the R50 will no longer lock onto it. No red, yellow, or green light. The only thing I can do is power off the R50 and hope it lets me resume the round when I start it back up. Has happened about 4 times since the update. Never happened before this update.

Also it no longer shows what shot you are on in Home Tee Hero. Am I on my second short or my third. No way to tell anymore. ️

I had to do a full Factory Reset to fix this. Noticing other bad bugs with this release too. (Like the screen orientation switching right when I make a shot and it not registering that I took the shot. So far 5.0 getting a big thumbs down from me. This is not funtionally stable for release.)

I spoke to support on Friday when it happened and they said they would let me know but haven’t heard back. I did see that it repopulated today though. Seems the update was not fully released

Has anyone got the range targets to work? I have selected the designated distance on the new update which i am wanting to play to and was expecting a distance circle a set distance down the range but doesn't seem to display anything.

3rd party software still not populating.

Called garmin support and started a resolve, this morning still no luck. Tried restarting, shutting down, logging out all with no success. Any help will be appreciated. Wondering if doing a factory reset would solve it but don’t want to lose anything.

It took about 24 hours after I ran the update for my connect area to appear on my R50. So be sure to give it some time. Restarting didn’t work for me either. But after about 24 hours it just appeared.

I emailed support at the following. They got back to me pretty quickly. But the problem had already resolved itself by then.

The target isn’t visible on the range view itself. It’s visible as an overheard view.

From the driving range….

select R50 display

then you can set your target size etc.

If you are just using the R50 without an external display it will look like this. (See pic below) At the bottom you can see I have it set for a 7 iron with a target at 150 yards.

Mine took almost a full 24 hours to show up. I did restart several times prior to that with no success. It’s just took time.

I have Sam issue but mine doesn’t seem to be correcting itself, how hong did it take and were there any other special steps taken

Beaver Creek Resort, Colorado

This one is excellent. But make sure you get the one in Colorado though, because beaver creek is a common name. Mountains are there, but don’t expect them to look like the Rockies. But trees and plants look very good. The trees aren’t pine trees like they should be, but they did put in the pine straw which looks really nice. The elevation changes look fantastic and the course is fun, with plenty of water to avoid. A lot of fun to play. 👍🏻
