Garmin R10 Update 4.50 Issues

I updated my Garmin R10 to the new 4.50 firmware and tested it out with Titelist RCT balls. I am not getting any club path, face or angle data still.

I know, its a bit of a joke, and poor customer support. The device worked fine prior to 4.40, they need to give us the option to revert back to 4.30

Club Path Appears Very Inaccurate with Indoor Setup

I’ve just purchased an R10 and have had some real issues with getting accurate data. I’ve been using both the Garmin app and Awesome Golf. Awesome Golf’s distances are at least somewhat close but the club path and face to path are way off which is giving me completely inaccurate shot shapes. Stats are attached.

I’ve got it set up in a garage. Garmin to ball is 1.8m and ball to screen is about 3m. Photos attached.

Software is up to date with 4.50.

Tried with and without garage door open and no change.

Just using normal balls. Not RCT type.

Any suggestions?

that's great but you're ignoring the very direct questions many users are reporting about the loss of distance w/ their shots. I literally cannot hit a driver past 200y no matter how perfectly I strike it (normal 250y). I've had the unit 5y without complaint UNTIL this awful update occurred. And for Garmin to literally say "Slow down your back swing" is comically terrible. C'mon guys!!

Please try the troubleshooting steps in this FAQ we've created for the radar features of the Approach R10. It is possible that the length and speed of the backswing may affect the device's abilities. If this is the case, you may need to prolong or accelerate the backstroke to get it to pick up properly.

Suggesting to change swing to accommodate for a firmware issue is simply unacceptable. Please provide option to revert to 4.3, which didn't have these issues.

most of us know about "calibration" and have done this step (myself included).

this update is trash. Browse the FB groups and read the hundreds of users complaining about the loss of proper distance. I can't hit a single club past 200y no matter how pure I strike (and I'm one of LOTS of folks reporting the same). It appears to be random as some are reporting no issues, while many (like me) have had their unit rendered unplayable at this point. Solutions incoming, Garmin??

I’ll dig thru and see if i can find an old one. I don’t save many of my range sessions.

i agree I don’t think it’s a lost cause as they’ve made some great updates lately, specifically with HTH.

I understand 3rd party issues could get missed, but a little shocked they didn’t see these issues if it was tested properly on their own software before they pushed the updates.

How's it going on 4.50? I'm still having issues with spin measurement.... Where it was providing measured spin on 50% of shots in Garmin Golf and 100% actual spin in Awesome golf it's now showing 10-20% actual... Frustrating..

My garmin r10 approach is not correctly reading shots on either home tee hero app.

I have the unit 7 feet behind the ball and 11.5 ft from the screen. There are no heaters, fans, radio interference items running. I have the entire floor carpeted, and the walls are covered in foam. The exact setup i have worked very well prior to the recent update. I know I have a slice and play it accordingly, however that shots are all going straight as an arrow right now or in a weird direction left. I haven't changed a thing with my setup, but the product no longer works correctly. Will you have a fix for this issue soon? What can I do to get my monthly subscription money back until you fix it?

Do the missing data rows correlate with measured vs. Estimated spin data or is there no correlation?

Can you, and everyone who is having these types of issues, extract the data to xls/csv and raise a support ticket. I think the only way to get garmin to make the update or rollback the firmware or what ever it is they need to do is raise the issue as much as we can.

They are pretty good at updating issues as a business so I don't think it's a lost cause like some have suggested, talking about moving to a different company, they just need to have the nudge and the data to show that all's not right.

Also, send them a data extract from previous rounds with the same environment/equipment but when it was 4.30. That way they'll have the evidence that somethings off, not just user error which is a vendors default.

I checked mine, and I’m getting measured with RCT balls at a high rate indoors. Problem is some of the other data is blank or clearly inaccurate, and this wasn’t an issue with 4.3. These were pitching wedge and 7 iron during a warm up on garmins range. I know 100% my garmin is set up correctly as I haven’t moved it in the 18 months i’ve owned it and calibrate everytime i use it.

Because (i think) face/path etc are calculated based on ball speed, launch angle (horiz & vert) and spin (mostly measured), as the latest two updates seem to have issues measuring spin it will find it harder to make an assessment on face/path angle.. this is just my guess based on the challenge I am seeing, what i see people seeing and how I understand it works. Could be wrong.

You can see the readings in the image above, these were using Titleist Practice (Range) balls not RCT.... same range balls and the same range I was using when on v4.30 when I was getting 100% Actual with Awesome Golf, even with Garmin Golf (see image below) i was getting at least 50% 'measured' rather than estimated...

It's very clear that while you have correct some of the issue caused with 4.40, you have still got an issue with measuring spin.... I will try with dots this weekend on both the range, the field I practice chipping on and on the net I have at home.

When I used the monitor at the driving range (range balls) the real big issue was with the club data (face to path, club path, club face and attack angle), out of 100 balls hit it only seemed close on about 30% of shots. Also spin seemed to be much lower than expected for low iron/wedges and distance too. Launch direction would also go completely off (examples of right hits recorded over 50 yards) when the actual ball flight was a nice right to left draw landing a few yards left of target (not over 50 yards right)

Hi, there is definitely still an issue with 4.5. On the range, with 4.3 I was able to get 'actual' spin readings on 100% of balls, now it's barely 10-20% of shots are registering 'actual', I only seem to get 'estimate' spin readings. This is quite frustrating to be honest. Please tell me there is another update coming or a rollback?

Apologies, but I have tried recalibrating and yes I have a leveler (bought from golfbays.co.uk), also device is 7ft from the ball. Also as stated earlier I also took the device to the driving range and the club & ball stats are way off. Everything worked fine with 4.3 - even with my swing speed which is a 24:8 tempo, conclusion is that the firmware updates have to be at fault. I'm sorry but I've decided to look for another monitor as there is no way to revert to 4.3. This experience has put me off buying any garmin products in the future for myself or my kids
