But after upgraded to 5.03 even worst , all time RED radar status indicator. totally not functioning in range with NO reading at all

Appreciate Garmin Support Team can look into the software code quality issues.

I'm owner of Approach G80 which served me well and recently upgraded to Approach G82. The new G82 really disappoint me with below issues :

1. Software Quality - Initial software version prior 4.13 which cant showing the correct statistics in driving range. Problem resolved after upgraded to 4.13

2. Tempo & Putter training - This features is only works one out of 10 !, totally useless , it can't detect my tempo & putting and the G82 doesn't allow me to do calibration WHICH G80 CAN to fix the reading issues.

3. Perform multiple hard reset but the firmware 4.13 still doesn't fix the Tempo & Putting training Reading. Also observed my friends also facing the same problem which recently bought G82.

Really hope the Garmin software team can enable the calibration option to fix Tempo & Putting training Reading issues. Thanks

G82 driving range not tracking hybrids -> driver

The G82 tracks my irons well with only a couple miss reads. However, I've yet to see anything other than swing speed and tempo for my Hybrids (6H-3H), 3 wood, and driver.

I've played around with tempo. Swing speed isn't anything incredible, around 70 mph.

Am I missing something?

I found your talk about the G82 not monitoring hybrids at the driving range to be quite enlightening! It's remarkable how technology can occasionally overlook certain clubs. Have you found any patterns in distance or factors that influence its accuracy?

Garmin - DK The bar will turn green if it on the wide open unblocking space. But in reality typical Asean Golf Driving Range like Singapore or Malaysia they are not wide open on grass. It looks like this :

And yes, swing speed is captured however not all the time as far as I recall.

Hi. Perhaps review what support has already done?

issues are-

1. the device simply misses random putts or only collects some of the data. Example- I make 5 putts, 3 may be captured but only 2 capture the full data set including tempo. I spend more time trying to get the device to work than actually practising.

2. I took the device out for its first round on Friday. It literally did nothing and says no courses found on the display. Totally useless for the gps use case as well!

background- it is up to date with all software updates, confirmed through the Garmin app. All support have done so far is blame a bag that was behind the device in a picture I provided. Not sure how that could have been an issue and certainly none of the literature says interference can happen from all directions. Anyway, moving my bag did not change the outcome. I have tried the device outside and inside and it still doesn’t work consistently on the putting/tempo. I was asked to provide a file from the device by support which I also got an error in trying to do that. I did attach a manually saved copy of that file and provided that to support and have heard nothing. As far as I’m concerned the device I have is broken and or not yet fit for usage. I have a big golf weekend booked in 2 weeks and would have ideally liked something working by then.

I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the Approach G82. I'd be glad to review your situation and see what I can do to improve your experience. What kinds of readings are you getting for your temp and putter training? Is it recording swing speed?

I am an avid golfer who has invested heavily in the Garmin golf ecosystem with the Approach G82, S70, and Z82, and previously owned multiple Garmin watches the Z80, G80, and R10. While I’m a big supporter of the platform and want to see it succeed, the G82 hasn’t quite met my expectations in a few areas yet. I’ve listed the main issues and some feature recommendations below, hoping they can be addressed in future updates.

Issues & Bugs

Software Responsiveness The overall software feels noticeably slower than expected for a modern dedicated golf device. Given how important pace of play is, it sometimes makes me reluctant to use it during a round.
Overheating / Freezing when Pocketed The device sometimes overheats, freezes, or becomes unresponsive when kept in a pocket.
Ecosystem Consistency Garmin’s golf products would benefit from tighter integration and full feature parity across devices. Customers who have bought into the ecosystem deserve a seamless, best-in-class experience similar to Apple’s.
Subscription Content Loading Aerial images and green contours (subscription-based content) should load almost instantly via Course Manager so they’re immediately available on the course.
Aerial Image Quality The aerial images currently lack contrast and visual quality compared to smartphone apps. As a premium dedicated hardware device, I’d expect it to deliver noticeably superior imagery. Shot Pattern App is the best example of digital enhanced aerial mapping.
Green Contours Not Loading Green contours sometimes fail to load even when the device indicates they are available.
Stat Tracking Flexibility The ability to enable stat tracking for myself only (instead of the whole group), similar to the S70 watch experience. This would keep the screen cleaner and more contextual.

Recommendations / Feature Ideas

Pre-Round Course Strategy Tool A feature that lets you plan club selection, layups, and custom targets before arriving at the course would be excellent. Examples would be Arccos / Shot Pattern.
Quicker Terrain Layer Navigation After selecting the terrain layer and viewing course view or aerial options, a simple one-touch method to select and immediately return to the main hole screen would improve workflow significantly. ie Exclude close modal
Shot Dispersion Visualization Adding a dispersion arc or polygon for the suggested club (like on the S70) would be very helpful for shot planning.
Launch Monitor Enhancements I haven’t used the radar/launch monitor and putting tools extensively yet, but I hope future updates can bring the accuracy in line with (or beyond) algorithmic solutions like the ShotScope LM1. It would also be great if it could factor in current environmental conditions such as temperature and altitude.
Display Hole Stroke Index The ability to see the stroke index of a hole as per S70 watch
Garmin Golf App expanded to iPad/WebApp/Desktop App Would be nice to have a space to review and journal your rounds, so you can plan practice and improve for the next round. Which ties into strategy planning on point 1.

Closing Note:

As a Senior Product Design Manager working in a similar space, I’m naturally quite critical when it comes to UX, UI, and functional value. These are my main pain points, but I’ve taken the time to write this detailed feedback because I’m genuinely invested in the Garmin golf ecosystem and want it to become the clear market leader.

I’d really appreciate any feedback or acknowledgment from the Garmin team. Happy to provide more details, screenshots, or test specific scenarios if helpful.

I also took it out on course for the first time on Friday, fired it up. Couldn’t connect to satellite at all- course not found error. Garmin response was to send them a device file. Followed those steps and got an error in that process. Would be laughable if I hadn’t invested money into it.

Hello Approach G82 users,

Today we started rolling out Software Version 5.04. This update has now gone live to all users.

Changes since 4.13:

Added red/green radar status indicator in driving range mode.
Fixed possible issues recording tempo in driving range mode.
Fixed issue where the touch targeting cursor could be cleared immediately after placing it down.
Fixed possible issue where an aerial imagery download could fail if the previous download was cancelled.
Updated the spell search results to show the city for each course.

Tracking last shot

I don't think there is an option to track the last shot as there is in on the watch and there is not confirmation that the last shot was sucessfully registered. Please add this, it is very useful.

One more vote...got my first round with my G82, CT10 and Z30 combo. Very bummed that you have to go to a secondary screen to track a shot distance...especially since my CT10s, even though paired, do not appear to be recording distances anywhere during the round. Major fail on a flagship golf product system.

It would be nice to get the data manually, but without having to click through a submenu (not to mention, the screen defaults back from the tracked number before I can even reach my shot....no idea on that).
