Is it or will it be possible to use data from the r10 which is a more accurate unit or enter club distances manually? Manual entry seems like such a simple feature to add but it would be great to use data from the r10.

Yes. While I know I can do this with the G82 I don't feel that it is as accurate as the R10. I have a lot of shot data from the R10 that I have no way to import to the G82.

Any updates as it has been 3 months and the issue still persists despite few firmware updates. Cannot add new sensors and stuck at adding screen

Touch Targeting not working on Approach G82 (software 7.02)

Hi,

Measuring distance with Touch Targeting is not working on my Approach G82, and I'm still seeing the problem after updating to the latest software (7.02).

What happens: during a round, with GPS locked and live distances showing on the hole view, I touch a point on the map to measure the distance to it, and the target cursor appears for a second and then disappears / the screen jumps back to the main hole view.

What I've tried so far: restarted the device, updated to 7.02.

The rest of the touchscreen works fine (menus, zooming, moving between holes), so it doesn't seem to be a general touchscreen fault.

Additional details: this happens on every course I've played.

I saw that version 5.04 fixed an issue where "the touch targeting cursor could be cleared immediately after placing it down" — this feels similar.

Is this a known issue on 7.02, and is there anything else I can try before contacting support about a warranty repair?

The device is 2 weeks old!

Oh wait. It's even worse. It's showing me no paired sensors, but with every club I'm trying to pair it's telling me that it's already paired.

I am seeing the exact same thing. Furthermore, my g82 lost its Bluetooth connection to my phone, and lost all my sensors that I had previously managed to pair after waiting out the very long pairing time. Now I have to do it again and it's taking even longer. It's beginning to feel like this is a rather expensive beta quality device.

After using the G82 for a week, I found the GPS-based distance measurement and course management features quite useful. However, there are a few aspects that felt lacking and could make the device even better if improved.

Virtual Round Game Support It would be great if the G82 supported virtual round play. Being able to simulate a round before heading to the course would help in planning strategies more effectively.
Limited Putting Data Currently, only putting tempo is displayed, but not the ball’s travel distance. Without distance feedback, it’s hard to practice putting properly. Showing ball movement distance would make putting practice much more meaningful.
No Ball Direction Data There’s no way to know whether a shot resulted in a hook or slice. Directional data would be very helpful for correcting swing issues and improving practice efficiency.

Overall, the G82 is strong in GPS and basic shot data tracking, but adding these features would make it a far more powerful tool for both practice and actual rounds. I hope future updates will address these points.

The Approach G82 will only measure certain key metrics during Putting Training mode. Metrics include stroke length, tempo, club and ball speed, as well as your putting stroke length ratio, which is the ratio of the back stroke and forward stroke lengths when hitting a putt. Distance is not a metric that will be recorded when a new putt is detected.

I recently purchased a Garmin Approach G82, but I couldn't find much detailed information about putting practice in the manual, so I'd like to ask a few questions here on the forum.

Is there a distance limitation for putting practice?
I'm wondering if putts longer than 2 meters are not detected or measured.
Does the G82 currently support putting practice in Practice Mode?
I selected "Putter" as the club in Practice Mode and tried several putts, but the G82 did not detect any of them. I'm wondering if this feature is not currently supported.

I also tried placing the G82 in the recommended position for regular club practice, as well as repositioning it specifically for putting practice, but neither setup worked.

Could anyone please clarify whether putting practice is supported on the Approach G82, and if so, what the correct setup and procedure are?

In the putting practice mode, distances over 2 meters are not being measured. I contacted customer support, and they replied that this product does not measure distance. Please let me know whether, as you said, the inability to measure distance is due to a product defect or some other issue. Also, please inform me of the normal maximum distance that should be measurable.

Hi 4692994 putts longer than 2 meters should be detected especially since this is a fairly common distance. If you are still seeing putts longer than 2 meters are not being detected, please reply back to this thread.

Troubleshooting Radar Features on an Approach Handheld

With putting you will need to use putting mode; driving range would be for all other clubs excluding the putter. The driving range placement of the Approach G82 is different from the placement of the Approach G82 with putting training. You can also take a look at our Getting Started for the G82.

Feature Request: Integrate G82 radar data directly into Garmin Golf round shot history
I would like to suggest deeper integration between Garmin Approach watches, the Approach G82 radar, and the Garmin Golf app.
The G82 already measures useful radar data during a round, while devices such as the Approach S70 already track the actual shot location, hole, score and GPS result.
It would be extremely useful if Garmin could combine these two data sources into one shot record.
For example:
Start a round on an Approach S70 or G82.
Use the G82 radar for each shot during the round.
Automatically match the radar measurement to the corresponding GPS shot using time, active hole and round data.
When viewing the round later in Garmin Golf, tapping an individual shot would show:
Club head speed
Ball speed
Smash factor
Swing tempo
Launch angle, if the G82 hardware is technically capable of supporting this in the future
Carry and total distance from the radar are not essential in this use case because Garmin already knows the actual GPS distance of the shot during the round.
This would create a much more useful picture of every shot: Garmin would show not only where the ball went, but also how the shot was produced.
I would also strongly suggest adding:
Full shot-by-shot history for every hole in Garmin Golf.
The ability to export an entire round, including shot locations and radar metrics, to CSV.
Better synchronization between an active round on an Approach watch and the G82.
Ideally, one active round shared across compatible Garmin Golf devices instead of separate independent sessions.
A possible exported structure could include:
Date | Course | Hole | Shot | Club | GPS start | GPS end | Actual shot distance | Club speed | Ball speed | Smash factor | Tempo | Launch angle
This would be extremely valuable for golfers who use Garmin for performance analysis and statistics.
Garmin already has most of the required hardware and data within the ecosystem. Combining the data in Garmin Golf would make the S70 + G82 + CT10 ecosystem significantly more powerful without requiring additional hardware.

Try measuring a shot, it starts, then reverts to the main screen showing hole graphics. When going back into Measure shot, sometimes it's still there, but most times it is erased and wants the user to start again.

Just an update. I'm not sure why the first time I tried this, it did not work. Ever since (3 more rounds) this function is now working. The screen still reverts to the hole graphics, and the user must find the 'measure shot' function again. But at least it's working.
