Feature Request: Integrate G82 radar data directly into Garmin Golf round shot history
I would like to suggest deeper integration between Garmin Approach watches, the Approach G82 radar, and the Garmin Golf app.
The G82 already measures useful radar data during a round, while devices such as the Approach S70 already track the actual shot location, hole, score and GPS result.
It would be extremely useful if Garmin could combine these two data sources into one shot record.
For example:
Start a round on an Approach S70 or G82.
Use the G82 radar for each shot during the round.
Automatically match the radar measurement to the corresponding GPS shot using time, active hole and round data.
When viewing the round later in Garmin Golf, tapping an individual shot would show:
Club head speed
Ball speed
Smash factor
Swing tempo
Launch angle, if the G82 hardware is technically capable of supporting this in the future
Carry and total distance from the radar are not essential in this use case because Garmin already knows the actual GPS distance of the shot during the round.
This would create a much more useful picture of every shot: Garmin would show not only where the ball went, but also how the shot was produced.
I would also strongly suggest adding:
Full shot-by-shot history for every hole in Garmin Golf.
The ability to export an entire round, including shot locations and radar metrics, to CSV.
Better synchronization between an active round on an Approach watch and the G82.
Ideally, one active round shared across compatible Garmin Golf devices instead of separate independent sessions.
A possible exported structure could include:
Date | Course | Hole | Shot | Club | GPS start | GPS end | Actual shot distance | Club speed | Ball speed | Smash factor | Tempo | Launch angle
This would be extremely valuable for golfers who use Garmin for performance analysis and statistics.
Garmin already has most of the required hardware and data within the ecosystem. Combining the data in Garmin Golf would make the S70 + G82 + CT10 ecosystem significantly more powerful without requiring additional hardware.

I bought the Garmin Approach G82 along with a full set of Approach CT10 sensors, expecting a top-tier, standalone golf handheld with rich on-device data. Instead, it has been an incredibly frustrating experience filled with poor UX choices, phone dependency, and severe documentation gaps.

If you are thinking about buying this setup, be aware of the following critical flaws:

Undocumented Data Loss (The "Scramble" Trap): The user manual fails to warn you that if your device scoring mode is set to Scramble, the G82 silently disables all CT10 sensor shot logging and Virtual Caddie calculations. I spent five full rounds religiously tracking my shots, only to find out Garmin threw all the club distance data away because of a background scoring setting.
Wasted Screen Real Estate & Phone Dependency: For a device with such a large, bright display, it shows remarkably little historical data. You cannot view detailed club distance matrices, edit scorecards, or review shot maps directly on the device—you are forced to pull out your smartphone or connect to a PC. Having to rely on a mobile phone app defeats the entire purpose of buying a premium standalone handheld.
Rigid Software Architecture: Completed scorecards are locked into read-only files. You cannot retroactively change a game type or fix scorecard errors on the unit. Furthermore, keeping score for a multi-player group on the device is awkward and clunky.
Over-Complicated Setup for Basic Tracking: On legacy Garmin units (like the G8), shot tracking was independent of scorekeeping. On the G82, Garmin forces you to run an active, individual Stroke Play scorecard just to get the device to save your club distances.

Verdict: For the money spent on the G82 handheld and a full set of CT10 sensors, the software experience is completely unpolished and overly restrictive. Garmin needs to overhaul its user manuals and push urgent firmware updates to allow on-device stat viewing and scorecard editing.

Garmin G82 - Measure Shot isn't working?

Try measuring a shot, it starts, then reverts to the main screen showing hole graphics. When going back into Measure shot, sometimes it's still there, but most times it is erased and wants the user to start again.

this is such a subpar product, for its price if you want it to work like a GPS, it should automatically track shots, at least the distant, once you stand next to your ball, it should automatically use that as a starting point for your next shot?

also can you allow the use of buttons as short cuts? like tapping the shot monitor button twice to start tracking shot distance, doing it via a sub menu is super anti-intuitive and just make using this device during a round impractical....

this is so far a very bad device mostly due to bad software design

Bag mapping, no approach wedge?

The new version fixed the driving range except for the Tempo. Nothing at all.

Same withe putting . Not recording anything. Noticed if place a hand over the radar it will turn from red to green but as soon hand is moved it returns to red.

Anyone else experiencing these issues or is it isolated to my unit?

As the subject, last time I went to the practice range, It’s my first time to use device. I set up as the user guide put G82 in the same way, but it always can’t detect the ball and red bar show on the top of screen. I try many different angler but in same situation. Bag Mapping based on current altitude

Just picked up the g82, liking it so far!

I live in Colorado and was curious if the bag mapping feature adjusts to the current altitude with its readings or if its all based off of sea level?

I know in some of the settings I can set my "home conditions" but its not clear to me if that does anything with the radar settings?

Worst, totally NO READING in Range after Upgraded Version 5.04

Approach G82 - Tempo & Putter Calibration Option

I'm owner of Approach G80 which served me well and recently upgraded to Approach G82. The new G82 really disappoint me with below issues :

1. Software Quality - Initial software version prior 4.13 which cant showing the correct statistics in driving range. Problem resolved after upgraded to 4.13

2. Tempo & Putter training - This features is only works one out of 10 !, totally useless , it can't detect my tempo & putting and the G82 doesn't allow me to do calibration WHICH G80 CAN to fix the reading issues.

3. Perform multiple hard reset but the firmware 4.13 still doesn't fix the Tempo & Putting training Reading. Also observed my friends also facing the same problem which recently bought G82.

Really hope the Garmin software team can enable the calibration option to fix Tempo & Putting training Reading issues. Thanks

I am an avid golfer who has invested heavily in the Garmin golf ecosystem with the Approach G82, S70, and Z82, and previously owned multiple Garmin watches the Z80, G80, and R10. While I’m a big supporter of the platform and want to see it succeed, the G82 hasn’t quite met my expectations in a few areas yet. I’ve listed the main issues and some feature recommendations below, hoping they can be addressed in future updates.

Issues & Bugs

Software Responsiveness The overall software feels noticeably slower than expected for a modern dedicated golf device. Given how important pace of play is, it sometimes makes me reluctant to use it during a round.
Overheating / Freezing when Pocketed The device sometimes overheats, freezes, or becomes unresponsive when kept in a pocket.
Ecosystem Consistency Garmin’s golf products would benefit from tighter integration and full feature parity across devices. Customers who have bought into the ecosystem deserve a seamless, best-in-class experience similar to Apple’s.
Subscription Content Loading Aerial images and green contours (subscription-based content) should load almost instantly via Course Manager so they’re immediately available on the course.
Aerial Image Quality The aerial images currently lack contrast and visual quality compared to smartphone apps. As a premium dedicated hardware device, I’d expect it to deliver noticeably superior imagery. Shot Pattern App is the best example of digital enhanced aerial mapping.
Green Contours Not Loading Green contours sometimes fail to load even when the device indicates they are available.
Stat Tracking Flexibility The ability to enable stat tracking for myself only (instead of the whole group), similar to the S70 watch experience. This would keep the screen cleaner and more contextual.

Recommendations / Feature Ideas

Pre-Round Course Strategy Tool A feature that lets you plan club selection, layups, and custom targets before arriving at the course would be excellent. Examples would be Arccos / Shot Pattern.
Quicker Terrain Layer Navigation After selecting the terrain layer and viewing course view or aerial options, a simple one-touch method to select and immediately return to the main hole screen would improve workflow significantly. ie Exclude close modal
Shot Dispersion Visualization Adding a dispersion arc or polygon for the suggested club (like on the S70) would be very helpful for shot planning.
Launch Monitor Enhancements I haven’t used the radar/launch monitor and putting tools extensively yet, but I hope future updates can bring the accuracy in line with (or beyond) algorithmic solutions like the ShotScope LM1. It would also be great if it could factor in current environmental conditions such as temperature and altitude.
Display Hole Stroke Index The ability to see the stroke index of a hole as per S70 watch
Garmin Golf App expanded to iPad/WebApp/Desktop App Would be nice to have a space to review and journal your rounds, so you can plan practice and improve for the next round. Which ties into strategy planning on point 1.

Closing Note:

As a Senior Product Design Manager working in a similar space, I’m naturally quite critical when it comes to UX, UI, and functional value. These are my main pain points, but I’ve taken the time to write this detailed feedback because I’m genuinely invested in the Garmin golf ecosystem and want it to become the clear market leader.

I’d really appreciate any feedback or acknowledgment from the Garmin team. Happy to provide more details, screenshots, or test specific scenarios if helpful.

G82 driving range not tracking hybrids -> driver

The G82 tracks my irons well with only a couple miss reads. However, I've yet to see anything other than swing speed and tempo for my Hybrids (6H-3H), 3 wood, and driver.

I've played around with tempo. Swing speed isn't anything incredible, around 70 mph.

Am I missing something?

G82 not saving round to Garmin golf unless I end round on phone

I have an odd issue. If I start a round on my G82, it shows up on my phone as a round underway, so it's connecting fine.

At the end of the round, if I end the round on my G82, it seems to automatically discard the round, with no option to save. It doesn't appear in my rounds on my phone. Initially. I thought it was saving them but nothing appears in Garmin Golf.

If I end the round on my phone instead of the device, it saves it to Garmin golf.

Any ideas? Am I missing something in settings or is this a bug?

G82 and CT10 Sensors: Can't get automatic shot registering/tracking to work

The 14 CT10 sensors are all correctly coupled to the G82.
It shows them all as available. But whatever I do: G82 does not register any shot. Not in Scoring mode or whatever else I tried.
Any ideas?

When using the G82 launch monitor on the course

Hello all, when im using the G82 launch monitor on the course with the course map, when you place the device next to the ball, you switch it from the course map to the launch monitor, but unless you hit your ball within 20 secs, the device times out and then switches back to the map.

Is there are a way to make the time out longer? as i feel that im rushing to hit the ball.

You place the monitor down, then line up your shot, couple of swings, then it seems to switch over. I am a fast player too, so i would understand if i was slow, but id rather place the monitor down, switch it to launch monitor, then go through my shot routine, rather than worry about it timing out.
