Hi, I had my 1st round of golf with my g80 and mine and my mates scores saved. I synced with the garmin app and updated my g80 as requested and ive just had my 2nd round and now my score stats aren't saved nor are my mates when I scored them, I only get my overall score and no hole breakdown and no info on my playing partners, just had my best round ever too! Is there a fix for this as I would like to analyse my round.

Apparently, the Oceania (Australia & NZ) course maps have been moved from "Courseview Pacific" to "Courseview EMEAO" (Europe Middle East Africa Oceania).

Has anyone that has had Courseview for Europe noticed a change in the last 6-8 weeks ? (eg EMEA changing to EMEAO ?)

Update as of July 29th, 2025:

Those with the Approach G3 and G5 APAC editions who are located in Oceania, try connecting your Approach devices to check for updates and see if you now have the option to install the EMEAO region update for course maps in Garmin Express.

You can contact Garmin Support in your region if you need further assistance with any of the options offered or if you have any questions about the solution that you mentioned being offered.

On our end we are working on a solution for the concern with the maps, and once we have an announcement for a solution I will post here in forums and those here on the thread that have been added to the ticket will also be notified via email as well.

I believe Garmin need to familiarise themselves with the Australian consumer laws, which state that a solution must be provided within a reasonable timeframe, and must be enough to put the consumer back in the position they were in before the problem occured.

So, either we need a concrete and reasonable timeframe for this issue to be rectified, or to be compensated such that we have a functioning device - whether that be by repair, refund, or replacement. The age of the device in this instance, is actually irrelevant - especially considering we were given course update so recently... Just for the wrong region, which is directly responsible for rendering our previously working devices useless. This is completely the responsibility of Garmin, and they must honour the relevant consumer laws and guarantees in the countries the operate within.

The offer you were presented was an option from Garmin Support as a solution in the meantime, while we work on further reviewing the ticket that is currently open for the change in regions and mapping for that device.

An outcome has yet to be determined on the ticket for the concern with the maps in your region, and is still in-process at this time. We have yet to determine a solution as hopeless at this time, so there may be an option in the future for this issue...but we are still reviewing on our end possible options from a software standpoint.

The Approach G3 was released 15 years ago, and support for that product has been phased out completely due to the vintage status of that device model.

The solution for the discount on a new device offered to you is what we would consider reasonable to offer as solution right away, but further compensation outside of the discount on a new device would not be typical with the age and life cycle for that specific model. The discount would provide you a new Approach Golf model form our current lineup, with more features and mapping far extended from what was available...as the Approach G3 was our first GPS golf device ever released.

Even though all support has been discontinued to your model, Garmin is still looking into other potential solutions for the map change ultra-specific to your region and once we have determined an outcome for any solutions we can offer from a software standpoint...you and the others users added to the ticket will be notified.

I have the same issue with my Approach G3. I have escalated it to Garmin, and they basically told me that the issue is the file size of the EMEAO courses is now too large for the device. If that was the case, why even offer an "update" that will render our Australian devices useless? The solution offered to me was a mere 20% discount on a new device. Given Garmin is solely responsible for rendering our previously working services useless with their "update", we are entitled by consumer law. According to the ACCC, the compensation needs to be enough to put us back in the position we were in before the issue occurred. I believe a 20% discount falls far short of that.

I have this issue with my approach g3 also. I was informed the EMEAO file is too large for my device, so it's basically been bricked by Garmin themselves. To top it off, I was offered a measly "20% discount on a new device" as a solution.

Australian consumer law states that the "Compensation should put the consumer back in the position they would have been in if the problem hadn’t happened".

They claimed that the age of the device is the issue, though that is actually irrelevant, given it was working perfectly, and due to Garmin themselves providing an "update" that has rendered Australian devices useless, they are liable.

I recommend reconnecting the Approach G80 to the computer > Open File Explorer or Finder to view the device storage drive for the Approach G80 > Open the GARMIN folder > Score/Scorecards sub-folder > See if there are any .FIT files accumulated within the scorecard folder matching any missing scorecards > Try to sync again within Garmin Express to see if they will transfer, or you can pair the Approach G80 to the Garmin Golf app to sync the device to your account via bluetooth.

If the scorecards folder within the GARMIN folder does not show any scorecards stored within it matching the missing dates, there are not any scorecards saved on the G80 to transfer to the account.

my G80 is not recording scores

today, i connected to Garmin Express, my computer indicated there was a challenge with the drive and wanted to try and fix it. My G80 was updated, however when checking my stats on Garmin Connect my scores had not been transferred. I have played each of the past two days. Nothing recorded.

Any ideas

I read the other comments on screen protector but the answer was not clear. It says you can use a third party screen protector but didn’t confirm what type and what issues there could be and how this affects the warranty. Can you please provide more information on this issue?

Any type of screen protector installed over the display of a device should be considered relevant in terms of what the article is referring to, being a material not original to the device applied by the user over the original display hardware of the Garmin product.

The support article mentions "anti-glare screen protectors" because there are some Garmin handhelds that Garmin offers screen protectors for in the accessories section of the product page.

The concern you mentioned has been submitted as a ticket through our Quality & Engineering team for further review. The appropriate department on our end has been made aware of the issue.

On our end the ticket will take some time to review and there are not any updates regarding the golf course maps.

As soon as we have more info, I will reach out to you if we have a solution to offer. At this time the ticket is still in the process of being reviewed and there is not any new information at this time.

Screen protectors are only offered and supported by Garmin on specific products, with the Approach G80 not being a product that Garmin offers screen protectors for.

This article offers more info on what to consider prior to proceeding with installing a 3rd party screen protector to the display lens on a Garmin product per the consumer limited warranty offered for that product from Garmin.

Your specific Approach device may be region specific. The Approach G3 was released back around 2009/2010 timeframe where only one region could be installed to the device. If your device is set for APAC region specifically, then there may only be unlocks available for course mapping for that region.

Same as for Approach G3 devices released specifically for the North America only having the option to store mapping for the North & South America, and units sold in Europe only having unlocks for one region.

Unlocks for course mapping are specific to the unit id number, and course maps cannot be sideloaded, they can only be released specifically for the device through Garmin Express per the unit ID number you have.

The Approach G3 was released at a time where only one region is available to be installed per the region edition that was purchased. There were not worldwide course mapping devices at that point in time.

I recommend giving support in your region a call to see if there are any other options available, as your device will likely not be able to have other regions unlocked for that specific device model.

I only get offered CourseView Pacific, and the opportunity to re-install it. Can the gmaprom.img file be made available for me to manually copy into my GPS ?

Install course maps for EMEAO through Garmin Express as the region for course maps installed to your device, as that device may only offer one region per the storage available on that older model of device
