  • Some Stryd questions

What's the easiest way to get clued up on what Stryd is and how to work with it? To be a little more specific what I'm thinking is how do I use it on a run with my f5, I've seen people mention a Stryd ciq app and a Stryd data field but I don't understand the difference. Also once you've captured the data from a run what do you do with it? I'm guessing it doesn't show on Connect and that the majority of people use TrainingPeaks. If that's the case do you need to pay for TrainingPeaks to get the most from it?

    Hi TheIncredibleFlash,

I invite you to join our Stryd Community on Facebook (Search 'Stryd Community' on Facebook) and read our blog at blog.stryd.com to get a good overview of Stryd. You will learn about how others are using power in their training and about the tools we are building to help support this.

Stryd Power is a power data field you can insert into the Run mode on your watch. It is a similar experience to how you would view power on the bike. You look at power in real time so you can gauge your intensity and follow your training for that day.

Stryd IQ is a full featured 'Stryd' mode run experience. It is useful for monitoring more data in real time like your power zones, form power, and run dynamics. This is useful on the treadmill as you can focus more on the detailed numbers.

During the run: You use power to guide your workout and races. You learn to stay in the right zone for the whole workout by monitoring your power output. This leads to better results and lower risk of injury due to overuse/underuse.

Post run: You sync your data to the Stryd PowerCenter, TrainingPeaks, SportTracks, Strava (with StravistiX), GoldenCheetah, Garmin Connect, or another third party platform to analyze your data. You can review specific workouts to find what you did well. You can review your trends over time to learn where your efficiency, training load, and potential is.

You do not need a premium TrainingPeaks subscription to get the most out of Stryd. You will find plenty of tools with the free version of TrainingPeaks to get the most out of the analysis.

Please feel free to email us on our website at stryd.com if you have any quick questions.

        ... not forgetting of course:
        - instant accurate pace;
        - spot on distance.

How do you calibrate it? Does it auto calibrate like the Garmin foot pod?

            Hi TheIncredibleFlash,

Stryd is ready to go out of the box without calibration. You only need to pair Stryd to the watch and tell it to get speed and distance from Stryd. We recommend leaving the calibration settings as a default 100 value and disabling auto calibration. This tells the watch to take the speed and distance from Stryd without adjusting the values to match GPS or other methods.

You can find more details from fellrnr's website: http://fellrnr.com/wiki/GPS_Accuracy

            Best,
            Angus & the Stryd Team

Yes, I set as Angus said, pace and distance always, cal factor 100, autocal disabled.
Running my usual trail course, which I have done hundreds of times previously, the distance I am getting from my four runs to date with the Stryd 2 is exactly right. I am intending to test on a measured track some time soon but I am really not expecting any need to tweak the cal factor. Accurate distance and pace, particularly in longer events, is gold dust. Add to that power levels ... well the future is here.

Have the compatibility issues between stryd and the F5/5s been resolved?

Any good US discounts? It doesn't look like CT carries it in the US.
