  • Google Earth and BaseCamp

It was announced on December 12th, 2014 that the Google Earth API has been deprecated. Recently, Google Earth has stopped working properly with BaseCamp. It appears that Google intentionally removed the ability for BaseCamp to find it.

If you attempt to view data from BaseCamp, you will get an error message stating that Google Earth is not found on the Computer. We will handle this better in the future.

In the meantime, if you simply launch Google Earth first, BaseCamp will find the application and all functionality should work.

    This may also help:

If Google Earth is Not recognized in Mapsource or Basecamp the problem is that Google Earth/Google Earth Pro has not registered properly.

    Solution:

First you need to check properties to show WHERE Google Earth is installed:

From the Command Prompt type the the following as applicable and press ENTER:

(Make sure you are in the C:\ root directory)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (works with Google Earth Pro in Win 7...10)

"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (Google Earth Pro in XP)

    "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (Google Earth in XP)

Should fix Google Earth recognition problem.

Note previously BaseCamp wouldn't work with the 64bit versions of GE, and you needed the 32bit versions. This has been fixed by GE now and BaseCamp will work with 64bit GE. However this only applies up to BaseCamp 4.6.2 as the link to GE has been removed from BaseCamp 4.70

The latest issue of GE should also fix the registration issue that GE had with BaseCamp, according to the latest GE changelogs:

Windows 64-bit fixes: joystick support; crash when hiding 3D buildings; COM application (e.g. Garmin BaseCamp) interface
Currently own Drive 50LMT-D, Nuvi 2508LMT-D, Nuvi 1490LMT, Nuvi 1310, Montana 650T, Etrex 20, and use Basecamp, OSM mapping
Previously owned Etrex Legend H, Mio Navman and used Mapsource
