  • Cannot switch database with Mac BC 4.2.1

I like the database switching option available on the PC version of BC 4.2.1. However, I cannot seem to get it to work on the Mac. The nomenclature is slightly different (instead of Database, it's called Library) but that shouldn't be a problem. When I click on "Choose Library"(Preferences, Advanced), I would expect to be able to choose an existing database (containing a 4.2 folder) as with the PC, but nothing happens. Each choice I make just bring me lower in the folder hierarchy, down to the individual track segments. What am I doing wrong?

Mac-BC uses a special "library" folder that contains all of the folders and data files for BaseCamp. If you don't already have a .bclibrary file you will need to create a new library. Then when you switch to that library (of course it will be empty) just Restore an existing MyCollection to it. Now you have TWO library's.
    Cheers,

Thanks for the explanation, Dan. I now see that the newly created libraries (with a .bclibrary suffix) are "bundles", equivalent to zipped files, that can be opened by Mac BC. Interestingly, the default library on the Mac retains the PC folder structure. So I can import 4.2 folders from my PC by replacing the default folders with the PC ones. Ideally, I'd like to be able to "unzip" newly created Mac libraries into the original 4.2 folder structure as shown below so I could export them to my PC.

Is there an unbundling app for this?

Normally, I would say, just do a Backup of one computer and then do a Restore of that Backup to your other computer. But, I have been having "issues" with Win-BC crashing upon a Restore from a Mac-BC Backup.

On the Mac, try double clicking a .bclibrary file. It will run BaseCamp using that library. It does a bit of churning, but it is a easy way to switch or run with a particular library. Sorry Windows users, blame Microsoft for not copying bundles.
