  • GPS chip of Garmin, TomTom, Suunto & Polar

Hi!, with permission , I share the question: Do you know your Garmin, Polar, Suunto or Tomtom GPS CHIP?

The link gives the info below. Is the info correct?

For example it says the Fenix3 has a chip called the Antenna EXO™ ...surely that's just an antenna. I would imagine (but don't know) that the gps chip is the same (or very similar to) the 920.

If the table (below) is correct then it is mildly interesting that the FR220 appears to have a newer GPS chip than the 920...and is it better or worse because of it.

I guess the OP then indirectly begs the question..."Which gps chip gives the most accurate 'results' "

Who knows! Has the author had a look inside each device? The 405/405CX looks a bit out of place.

"EXO" was just mentioned in the specs. Look out for DC Rainmaker's Fenix 3 review on Thursday to see what he makes of it.

Also from what I have read here over the years is not just a simple case of which chip but also how it is used - e.g. antenna design, power requirements, GPS firmware etc etc

MT3333 is a newer model, that replaces MT3339.

eesh when they make 3334 more models they'll run out of numbers to use by counting backwards. :-)
