  • Connect Nokia/Whitings scale to Garmin Connect

Hi. I have seen various old posts about issues related to connecting the scale to Connect. Has there been any solutions for this or is Connect mainly designed for Garmin scales?

I have a Withings scale (WS-50 I think). I linked Withings to MyFitnessPal and have also linked Garmin to MyFitnessPal. My weight data moves from Withings to MyFitnessPal and then to Garmin seamlessly. This has been working without issue for two years.

I have the same set up as you, jlgranth, but it doesn't sync for me. One thing I wonder, did you have or use a Garmin scale at one point? I'm wondering if that "kick starts" the ability to use the scale feature in Connect.

I have a similar setup using the Fitbit Aria scale (used Fitbit before Garmin got into activity trackers) and it does just like the Withings scale does and syncs via MyFitnessPal. The weight data goes to Fitbit which sends it to MyFitnessPal and then Garmin Connect. I never had the Garmin scale. Before I switched to Garmin I already had Fitbit syncing with MFP and once I enabled Garmin to sync with it the weight data started moving automatically.

Thanks for the feedback! I normally only use Strava but I guess I can install MyFitnessPal and only use this for weight readings. Cheers

I have installed MyFitnessPal and connected it to the Whitings scale as well as to Garmin Connect. I still don't get my weight readings, any idea why?

Is it really sending weight data from myfitnesspal to Garmin? It doesn't work for me (weight data from a fitbit aria does come up in myfitnesspal)

Nighthawk700 I have never owned the Garmin scale.

GHG23 The link between Garmin and MyFitnessPal is a two way link... Garmin sends my workout data / calories burned to MyFitnessPal. MyFitnessPal sends my calories allotted and calories consumed to Garmin...as well as my weight.

pbjorgen Here are a couple of questions that might help you find the issue... Does your weight from Withings show up in MyFitnessPal? Do your activities in Garmin show up in MyFitnessPal? Lastly, does your daily calorie information from MyFitnessPal show up in Garmin (on the "Daily Summary" on the "Calories In/Out" tab)?

All three of these typically update very quickly for me, typically within seconds across the board of any update to any of the apps. If these three things are working, then I believe your weight should be transferring. Hope that helps...

I have the same setup, Nokia scale ,MyFitnessPal and Garming connected. And I can confirm there is an issue with getting the weight to the GarminConnect. MyFitnessPal reads it immediately from Nokia, but it won't show up in Garmin. Everything else (work out data/calories) are there, just weight won't sync.

My Vivoactive 3 is brand new so I have experience only about a week. It did sync the weight at the first connect, but not after that...

Jari I would try disconnecting MyFitnessPal from Garmin and reconnecting. As I recall, I connected to MyFitnessPal to Garmin by clicking on a link on the Garmin "Daily Summary / Calories In/Out" tab.

Done that already (and all other basic troubleshooting things), also the Nokia/Withings side from MyFitnessPal, but no help...

I did some more troubleshooting on this. Actually, now if you go to the "Daily Summary / Calories In/Out" tab, press there the "Log Calories in MFP" in a bottom of the screen and come back from MFP to GarmingConnect the weight finally appears to GC. But still, this is kind of a workaround in my mind. It requires less key presses to just to record the weight manually

I have a Withings scale connected to MFP and and MFP connected to Garmin Connect... a new issue started happening in the last week.

I will weigh myself and see the value in MFP.. and then at some point GC will over write the value in MFP instead of MFP adding the new value to GC.

It is like GC takes the vale from the day before and makes it the weight for the next day and then will write that back to MFP.

Is there any way to control the direction of data between syncing partners?

Now this what brohrich discribes above happened to me as well. I don't know how these apps handle timestamps before syncing the data fields, but in my opinion GC shouldn't copy the previous day's weight value to the current date during that day. It should only happen day after if value is not synchronized or manually added. Doing it immediately when you open the app cause this to happen if the app has not managed to get the value from other app yet. It is a bug in GC in my mind.

The best solution would be the possibility to define sync directions as brohrich asks.To work perfectly this option should be in each app using common data. Then you would have an option to define the master source for all the values.

Jari brohrich I don't believe there is any way to control the direction of data between the apps. So to troubleshoot, all I can think to suggest is checking the timezone settings for the scale (done in the Nokia app by scale location I think), MyFitnessPal, and Garmin Connect. They should all be the same. It sounds to me like one of them is off possibly causing data / timestamp confusion.
