  • Garmin Connect Mobile - Protecting sensitive profile information

Can some kind of password protection system be added to secure sensitive information like DOB, age, weight, etc.? It's a little scary that someone who has access to my mobile (eg. my kids or even their friends) can view all my personal information.

    Thanks!

Why don't you just sign out of the Garmin Connect Mobile app? This way your data will be inaccessible unless your garmin connect account password is provided.
    Current: nuvi 255, eTrex 30, Forerunner 310XT, Forerunner 735XT, HRM-Tri, HRM-Swim, SDM4, Virb Elite
    Retired: eTrex Legend, Swim

Maybe you ought to protect your mobile handset with a password first.
The issue with having to repeatedly log in to vBulletin from one forum action to the next seems to have been partially remedied, but problems persist with changes to User Settings not being properly committed upon saving, and with page encoding such that em dashes, en dashes, left and right quotation marks, accented vowels, etc. are not rendered correctly in the browser.

I don't believe there is a option to sign out and sign in. Also, don't you need to be signed into the app for certain data to be synced to/from the Garmin device?

I do have a passcode enable!! I believe most mobile devices nowadays enforces you to enable one when you set it up.

The feature that I've requesting is a app level password, just like Dropbox, Onedrive, etc. Ideally this password/passcode should be different from the device passcode.

Even Apple requests a password before you can view or edit your profile details on your IOS device. In the age where personal data can be misused in various ways, it always wise to have that extra level of security.

            Sure there is. More|Settings|Sign Out

Irrelevant to protection of your privacy, which was the concern you raised.

In which case your kids and even their friends should not be able to access any of the private information on your mobile handset, unless you chose to disclose the passcode to them, or are careless about not letting other individuals see you tap your passcode when you try to gain access yourself.

You can believe whatever you want to believe, but that doesn't mean your view has either merit or standing with others.

The sign-out and sign-in process appear to be very tedious. It sorts of defeats the object of using the app, especially if you have to manually login and logout every time you use it? How many apps force you to login every time you open it?

Protecting access to your device and protecting access to personal data are two separate things!! I don't give out my device passcode, but there are legitimate reasons/situation when you may allow someone else to access your device. The example of letting your kids use your device is just one common scenario, one that I believe that most people who have kids have done at some point. Other examples/scenarios (and not limited to these) may include giving IT support access to your device troubleshoot/fix an issue, theft of your device while it's unlocked, etc.

Anyway, the initial post was a request for the ability (feature) to secure personal/profile information within the app, when viewing or editing personal information. A lot of apps that handle sensitive or personal information also have addition security features, e.g. app level passcode with a timed out threshold, data encryption, remote data wipe, etc. This is best practice.

Thank you ASmugDill, for your reply, but your comments are irrelevant and are not productive here.

This is primarily a user-to-user discussion forum, not an activism channel to promote or procure outcomes. We're here for discussion, not specifically ?productive? towards giving or securing others what they want that they cannot have today.

You might want to look into a third party app that does what you want.
