Hello,

I've been working on this watchface collection for the past few days and just published a major update. Wanted to share it with people who actually understand what makes a good Garmin watch face, and collect feedbacks 🙂

What it is : a cosmic-themed watch face for AMOLED Garmins. Two versions (few screenshots below, but more available in the app)

Battery Alert App

I built this for my Wife. She quite often forgot to charge her Venu 3s battery and so I figured if i made an app/widget which would alert at a pre chosen level that would be a good idea.
She loved it immediately. It runs on many models, has a very light power usage and footprint. And it's really simple to setup. Download/install/set your level/ enable/ or disable alerts during sleep or exercise.........and just forget it ......

Grab it from the Garmin App store and give it a test run. I suggest setting the battery alert to 1% lower than what your battery is at for an initial test. Once the 'dismiss' screen pops you just tap the green tick which appears or the red x and it goes away. If you don't charge the watch it'll alert you again in one hour.

Any comments, suggestions etc will be very welcome !

PackCal: load-aware calories, a data field companion for weighted activities

I built PackCal, a single Garmin data field that counts the calories your weighted vest or pack adds. It is for anyone who carries weight on foot, from daily vest walkers to ruckers, loaded hikers, hunters, snowshoers, and mountaineers. What sets it apart from a generic Walk or Hike profile is the calorie math: it accounts for the load you carry, not just your heart rate. After you save, it writes pack weight, load-aware calories, and terrain factor to Garmin Connect, under Stats in the Connect IQ section.

The calorie math

The native estimate reads your effort mostly through heart rate, so it captures only part of what a pack adds. The heavier the load, the bigger the gap. PackCal runs the Pandolf load-carriage equation, the model U.S. Army research validated for marching under load, so your body weight, pack weight, speed, terrain, and grade all move the number.

Because it is a data field and not a separate app, you add it inside an activity you already use and it adds one number without taking anything away. You keep Garmin's turn-by-turn navigation, loaded courses, maps, and every native field. PackCal fills in the load-aware calorie number Garmin leaves out.

It keeps counting indoors or out, GPS or not. On a treadmill or indoor walk, it scales the watch's own estimate by your load. Outdoors, during warm-up, under heavy tree cover, or on a stop partway up a hill, it falls back to that estimate and resumes the full load-aware math once the signal returns.

One cell, adaptive

Give PackCal a full single-field screen and it shows your key activity numbers at once: the calorie total big and center, live heart rate, pace, and ascent down one side, time and distance along the bottom, and a CAL FROM PACK panel showing what the load adds. A line echoes your setup, like "15 lb · Trail", so you can confirm it at a glance. In a denser multi-field layout the same field degrades cleanly to a labelled number.

A few details that matter for accuracy:

Terrain coefficients from the model: Road 1.00, Gravel 1.05, Trail 1.20, Sand 1.50, Snow 2.50.
Speed capped at 2.5 m/s, since the equation is validated for walking pace.
A 60-second rolling grade buffer with a 30 m minimum-distance guard, so brief altitude spikes don't pollute the burn rate.
Body weight resolves from your override, then your Garmin profile, then asks you to set it. It never silently guesses a default.

Setting it up

Set everything right on the watch: in the activity, hold the menu button, pick Connect IQ Fields, then PackCal, and set pack weight, units, terrain, and energy unit (plus a body weight if your Garmin profile has none). Change your load mid-activity and it updates within a second. Or open PackCal in the Connect IQ app, where the same settings live.

Where it works, and where it won't

Walk, Hike, and Ruck run the full model, and so do Hunting, Snowshoeing, Mountaineering, and similar load-carrying activities. A child carrier counts too, as the same Hike with the carrier and kid as your load.

Everywhere else it shows two dashes on purpose. The Pandolf model is validated for walking, not running, and on a bike, in the water, or in the gym your load isn't what's costing you. Rather than show a number it can't stand behind, PackCal refuses to guess.

For a sense of scale: a 10 lb vest adds roughly 4 to 7 percent over the same walk unloaded, a 35 lb ruck 15 to 25 percent, and a 60 lb load 30 to 45 percent, depending on your body weight and grade.

Price and the full app

PackCal is $1.99 through Garmin Pay, with no unlock codes, account, subscription, ads, or tracking. It runs entirely on your watch, collecting nothing about you.

If you want a full app rather than a single cell, RuckTrack from the same developer is the other shape: a complete app for ruck, hike, weighted vest, and treadmill, with multiple live screens, load presets, and a post-activity summary. Both use the same calorie math, so your numbers agree across them.

PackCal runs on Garmin watches with Connect IQ 5.0 and newer, including the Forerunner 70, 165, 170, 255, 265, 570, 955, 965, and 970, the fēnix 7 and 8 families and fēnix E, epix and epix Pro, Enduro 3, Venu 2, 3, 4, X1, and Sq 2, Instinct 3 and Instinct Crossover (AMOLED), and vívoactive 5 and 6.

Ticker Tocker is a watchface designed as a tracker for the realtime trading price of a stock, cryptocurrency, or FOREX currency exchange pair. One or two assets can be tracked at a time, with support for graph view, trading candles (OHLC), and trading volume bars. (Currency exchange pairs can only use graph view). Prices and percent change calculations are updated every 5 minutes. While the visual focus is on trading prices, Ticker Tocker is also a highly functional watchface, supporting dual time zones, four customizable data fields, 24 hour and 12 hour time format, AOD display mode, and intuitive weather forecast icons.

Keychain — a QR code, barcode & card wallet I built (looking for dev feedback)

I went to pull up a QR code on my watch the other day and the app I'd been using stopped working. I scoured the Connect IQ store and couldn't find anything that did what I wanted cleanly, so I thought I'd try my hand at building the app I wanted.

I'm really proud of how it turned out, so I wanted to share it with the community.

There are a few existing QR/barcode and wallet apps on the store, but the one I'd been using had layout issues with the barcode and a fiddly setup. Keychain displays the code centred and as large as the screen allows on every supported device and honestly, getting the layout and glyphs to render correctly across the full device range was most of the effort. Cross-device compatibility is the thing I find most often gets skipped, so I spent the bulk of my time there and on the test coverage.

It also stores plain-text notes alongside the QR codes and barcodes, which I thought would be handy.

My goal was to match Garmin's native design language as closely as I could. Simple, clean, and easy to use.

On the encoding side, the codes are generated on-device and cached, so it works fully offline. Scans have held up well in real-world testing, including confirming the parkrun ID encodes and scans correctly with the official parkrun scanner.

I'd love to know what other Connect IQ developers think, especially on the cross-device rendering side.

[App] Elegant Timer & Reminder - a custom countdown alternative to the stock timer

Hey all,

The default Garmin timer always felt a bit too basic and plain, so I ended up building my own thing called Elegant Timer & Reminder. I wanted something fast, clean, and actually nice to look at while working out, cooking, or whatever else you need to count.

What's inside:
- Quick presets: You just tap one of the four sections of the screen to launch your presets (customizable from 1 minute to 24 hours). Tapping another area instantly restarts the countdown.
- Tweak on the fly: You can use the physical keys or the on-screen minus/plus zones to quickly add or subtract minutes.
- Runs in the background: If you hit 'Back', it keeps running in the background and gives you a native-looking progress bar in the Glance view.
- It has 5 built-in themes (Fire, Hakier, Navy, Nebula, Palms) with dedicated vector styling for each, so it doesn't look like a generic overlay, hopefully.
- Simple alerts: Vibration and sound settings can be adjusted directly in Garmin Connect.

I am literally leaving for an almost completely off-grid summer vacation right now, so I won't be around to reply to comments or check messages for a while.

I’ve been working on a Connect IQ app called Solunar PRO for fishing and hunting.

It calculates solunar activity times directly on the watch using the user’s GPS location. It works fully offline, with no phone and no internet required.

The app is based on solunar theory, popularized by John Alden Knight in the 1930s. It uses sun and moon positions, moonrise, moonset, moon overhead and moon underfoot times to estimate when fish and game may be more active. It is not a guarantee, just a planning tool to use together with weather, pressure, season and local knowledge.

Current screens:

Today: daily activity score, next major or minor window with countdown, sunrise and sunset
Windows: all major and minor periods for the day
Next 7 Days: quick planning view for upcoming trips
Moon: moon phase, illumination, moonrise and moonset
Glance: daily score and next activity window without opening the full app

I'd like to introduce my app Flight Scanner, its a gps location based flight radar built for Garmin watches. It's a fresh face from the current offering's which are mainly just aircraft lists, my app allows users to swipe around their current location or instantly find flights.

Instant Telemetry Details: Tap an aircraft to instantly view critical live data, including current altitude, ground speed, and compass heading.
Dynamic Plane Icons, the original app didn't really differentiae between planes, now you can identify small and large planes based on the Icons.
Filters: Too much sky clutter? Use the built-in filtering system to easily isolate local helicopters, private flights, or commercial airliners.
Aircraft Search (PRO): Type in an aircrafts callsign to instantly travel to the flight anywhere in the world! (Callsign Example; TOM45E, KLM76Y) Flight Number not yet supported.

JiaKe.app: A macOS tool for framing Garmin watch screenshots

Hi everyone,

I built a native macOS app called JiaKe.

It solves a small but repetitive problem for Garmin / Connect IQ developers: turning raw watch screenshots into clean, device-framed images for product pages, store listings, release notes, documentation, and forum posts.

My old workflow was usually: connect the watch, find GARMIN\ScreenShot copy the BMP screenshots, open Figma or Photoshop, find a device frame, crop the screen, align layers, adjust the background, and export. That is fine once, but it gets tedious when preparing a full set of launch or update assets.

JiaKe puts that workflow into a local Mac app:

Import screenshots from a connected Garmin watch or local folder
Support Garmin BMP, PNG, and JPEG screenshots
Match common Garmin device frames and screen shapes
Handle round, square, and rectangular watch screens
Add backgrounds, logos, image layers, and reusable presets
Preview and export single or batch PNG assets
Process screenshots locally during the normal workflow

I made it because Connect IQ developers should not have to rebuild the same screenshot mockups by hand every time they ship something.

Hi all — I just published my first Connect IQ app: Tasbih — Dhikr Counter. There wasn't a single dhikr counter on the store, so I set out to build one properly — not a bare tally, but something that feels good to use every day.

Each count fills a gold progress ring with a glowing pearl bead at its head, on a deep emerald & gold face made for AMOLED. A gentle vibration marks the end of every round, so you can keep your eyes closed and stay in the moment. It carries the authentic adhkar with their traditional counts — SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Astaghfirullah, Salawat, the 99 Names — plus a free counter, automatic round tracking, three vibration modes, and saved progress. Hello There, Firstly Great app, I have an EPIX Pro and have successfully stored 42 of our clubs fixed marker Courses. I was wanting to know if there was a way of pre storing the Start line? Of the 46 or so courses set by the club 42 of them use the same start line and it would be handy to be able to set that up. Thanks again for a great app.

I'm happy to share Zoobin, a waypoint compass I built and just released to the store.

It's designed to do one job well: get you to a point fast, entirely on the watch, no phone, no maps, no internet, no accounts.

You enter up to 5 waypoint (paste coordinates straight from Google Maps), and the watch shows a smooth heading-up compass with each way-point as a colored marker on the rim, at the same time playing a beep guiding you to the destination.

What it does

Up to 5 waypoint, each with an optional name and color
Heading-up compass; marker size + brightness show how near/far each point is; a bold "+" when you arrive
Center list with distance to every waypoint (tracked one first, then nearest)
Metric or imperial
Track one way-point with optional audio guidance:

Distance mode, pitch rises and beeps speed up as you get closer
Bearing mode, pitch rises and beeps speed up as your heading lines up with it

Optional haptic tap when your heading aligns with a way-point
Optional auto-advance to the next way-point when you arrive, hands-free, point to point

Everything runs on the watch.

Way-points are entered once in Garmin Connect → Connect IQ Apps → Zoobin → Settings (accepts 57.682524, 12.041440 and similar formats).

Controls

START / tap, cycle sound mode (Silent → Distance → Bearing)
UP / DOWN, select the tracked way-point
Long-press middle-left, vibration on/off
BACK, exit

I built it with geocaching, orienteering, hunting, hiking, backcountry use in mind, but it's handy anywhere you just need a bearing and distance to a point — down to remembering where you parked.

Compatible with fēnix 6/7/8, epix (Gen 2) and Pro, tactix 7/8, MARQ (Gen 2), Enduro 2/3, Descent, Forerunner 255/265/955/965, Venu 2/3, and more (full list on the store page), I have recently removed vívoactive5 because of unreliable heading.

This is an early release and I'd genuinely value feedback, what feels good, what's confusing, what's missing, pricing, and especially anything that misbehaves on your specific device. I'm fixing issues quickly and happy to take suggestions.

Watchface: uptime - a minimalist monochrome terminal watch face

I got a Venu 4 a while back and could never find a watch face I actually liked,
so I ended up making my own. It's called uptime and it basically looks like a
terminal.

The time sits at the top like a shell prompt with a blinking cursor, and below
it there's a small readout:

It's all JetBrains Mono on a black background, no colors, just white and grey. I
wanted it to stay calm and readable and not eat battery, so there's no seconds
and the always-on version dims right down so it won't burn in.

It runs on most of the AMOLED watches (Venu, Vivoactive, Forerunner, epix,
fenix 8, MARQ, D2 - 29 in total), and the fonts scale to each screen size.
