Hey, I'm doing my 1st 20 miler run and have a route to follow from Gmap. I fully expect to get lost. Is there a way I can import that route onto my 305 to keep me on track? I couldn't find anything on it through google, but I assume something like that must exist (or at least been attempted by those smarter than myself).

Any ideas? Or just plain on taking a cab home after I run 20 from wherever the heck I may end up?

This can be done using Gpx2Crs. This will allow you to convert a gpx file to a crs file, import the course into TC, then send it to your 305.
You can download the zip file here (http://www.niniu.com/Garmin/Gpx2Crs.zip).

If you're a Mac user (or simply a Windows user that would prefer to use a web-based option), you can use the GPSies converter page at:

http://www.gpsies.com/convert.do

Simply upload the GMaps Pedometer generated GPX file to the GPSies page, and then choose "Garmin Course TCX" from the "Convert to -> Track" options. After clicking "convert," import the generated TCX file into Garmin Training Center (Mac or Windows version), and then send to your FR305.

For what it's worth, the GPSies site is also useful from pulling tracks off your FR305 (it can read directly), and for converting to a wide range of other GPS/GIS XML formats (including things like Google Earth KML).

Hi everybody, first time poster here. Iíve been using a pedometer by Telenav (http://forum.telenav.com/viewtopic.php?t=9111&highlight=pedometer+instructions). It is really useful to me because I can see other peopleís bike routes and the best part is calculating the calories I can burn. (see (http://maps.telenav.com/tnmap/) it here: http://maps.telenav.com/tnmap/). Just wondering if anybody has a calorie counter they recommend?

Hello,

I ran into the same issue on the PC / Windows. I ended up creating a tutorial (http://runningsamadhi.elehost.com/gps-running-tool-and-tips/create-garmin-forerunner-course-from-gmaps/) for how I was able to accomplish this with mostly on-line tools for people who are not as computer savvy.

Here is the link:

I hope it helps someone. I found that this was a feature very much needed for my use with my Forerunner 305. I found being part of a running group that without some guidance it was annoying having to study maps / directions when all I wanted to do was run. As each course was only run once I could not create the course from my history. Now I have a relatively easy way to do this for when I want to travel and run based on posted courses.

Cheers,

Paul

So I realize there are ways to upload points to the Garmin, but is there an option to send a route from "Google Maps" to a Garmin (305 specifically)? It has been frustrating trying to make new run routes and having to manually enter them in prior to leaving on a run. A convenient option would be to have the route available to upload straight from Google to the Garmin. This would really help for those of us who move around a lot.
Thanks.
