just seeing that there is a ANT+ adapter for the iPhone and the Garmin Fit app. As I unterstand in that way I can use my iPhone as a recording device similar to a Forerunner or an Edge device.
But my question is: can I connect a FR405 to the iPhone an transfer the data of my workout to Garmin Fit and from here to Garmin Connect?

The iPhone (or maybe the iPad - if there will be a version for it in the near future) has a bigger display and while on a training weekend I won't take my computer with me but iPhone.

Thanks for your answer.

I am not 100% certain with this answer, but I believe it is as follows:

The Garmin FIT adapter only works with the Garmin FIT Application on the iPhone. With this combination you cannot connect the iPhone (or iPad) to your forerunner in order to load data files off of the device.

However....

If you buy a Wahoo fisica key (http://www.amazon.com/Wahoo-Fitness-Key-Wirelessly-generation/dp/B0042WGO3Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322508313&sr=8-1) then you can use their app to connect to your device and pull data off of it to Garmin Connect (or other sites).

I haven't done this myself, but have been considering buying one for just this purpose. See www.dcrainmaker.com for some reviews and more information (i.e. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/05/inside-look-at-downloading-fr310xt.html and http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/10/garmin-iphone-ant-adapter-and-garmin.html)

that's good news, thank you NORD0296 (already added the Wahoo Fitness website to my bookmarks:cool:).

after reading your post and surfing that sites it is obvious that Whaoo has the solution to my needs. It seems that they are rapidly devloping their software and were adding new features almost weekly.
While DC Rainmaker notes about the FR310 as his supported device it seems that today almost any ANT+ device from Garmin can be "connected" to upload a workout. But I want to make sure the FR405 is supported too. And hopefully the Edge devices, even the older 705 will eventually be on that list.

It wonders me why Garmin doesn't provide that functionality with their Garmin Fit app.

UHEBEISEN,
I too have the FR405 and was hoping to use my iPhone to upload to Garmin Connect. Before I purchased the Wahoo Fitness key I contacted them regarding transfers. Here is the response.

"I'm sorry, but our device will not read workouts from the FR 405. It uses a different type of file communication that is not usable by our system. I'm a Garmin 405 user myself and was not happy about this limitation, but it does give me another reason to upgrade to the 610".

I was bummed as well. This limitation, along with the wacky bezel on the 405 led me to upgrade to the 610. I haven't decided on a Ant+ key yet, but I'm looking forward to breaking the tie with my desktop someday.

Happy running!
