View Full Version : 310 XT Firmware update error on Mac

Hi all,

I just got my 310XT and I love it.

I'm experiencing an error every time the Ant Agent tries to update the firmware in my device from v2.5 to v2.6. It goes to around 60% and fails.

My Ant Agent is 2.1.3 and at least I would like the software would stop trying since I can't contain the Ant insistence in updating the device.

Thanks,
Paulo

I am having the exact same problem with upgrading my 310xt firmware on a mac.

Same issue. I've also tried to go the windows route using VMware on my mac and same exact symptoms: Agent attempts to install the firmware, hangs at 0% and then the watch resets. Repeat again until I clear all pending data from the Agent :-(.

I've sent a note to Garmin support so hopefully they will take a look and resolve quickly.

I'm wondering if anyone has updated to 2.6 using the mac and if so what is the secret?

I updated successfully a couple of days ago. It did take two tries. The first attempt stalled and failed right away, but the second attempt made it through all the way.

I also just got my 310XT and am having the same problem upgrading the firmware - can't get past 0% and ANT constantly retrying. However, I'm trying to update from firmware version 2.4 (which is what the device came with).

Should I upgrade to 2.5 first and how do I do that?

Love the 310XT though!

You shouldn't have to upgrade to 2.5 first, and I don't think it is possible anyway. I went from 2.4 -> 2.6.

Thanks. Then I'll have to wait if Garmin Support can add anything.

Just a thought, but are you using Leopard or Snow Leopard?

I've "upgraded" to Snow Leopard and was wondering if that could be the problem?

I'm running Snow Leopard but have also read posts from those having the same issues on Leopard. I don't think SL is the problem.

10.5.8 = Leopard

I haven't upgraded to Snow Leopard yet.

This has been discussed here:
https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=1448

Basically it's happening on Leopard "AND" Snow Leopard. It could be just affecting new 310xt with v2.5 software - I'm not sure here.
The only way I could get my watch updated to 2.6 was to run VMware Windows Vista Virtual on my mac. :(

I'm sure Garmin will update the "update". :D

Hi,

I tried upgrading from 2.4 to 2.6 and it's happening the same way on Snow Leopard.

Cheers

I have it sorted out. After a series of updates to my Mac it finally went through. I don't know exactly what it was that I did but after updating Airport Client Update, Airport Utility Software and Mac OS 10.5.8 it just worked.
Go figure...

I also had same problem, finally after a few tries it was successful (I think?). Only problem was it erased all my data including all my user prefs. So I had to set the watch up from scratch.

Just giving this thread a bump to see if anyone has found a way to update the 310xt firmware to 2.6 on a Mac platform? There are some people that have reported success without really knowing what they did to make it work, and others that have resorted to using Parallels/VMWare, but nothing has been posted (that I've found) that gives how to make it work.

Has anyone heard anything back from Garmin about this issue?

Same problem as other Mac users:
Running:

MAC OS Snow Leopard 10.6.1, Safari 4.0.3
Garmin 310XT, sw version: 2.40, GPS 2.10
Garmin ANT Agent 2.1.3
Mac Communicator Plugin: 2.8.2

First things first:
I am absolutely loving the new 310XT. Period

BUT

There are two issues I've encountered so far:
1. There's an issue in the System preferences with Network config which prompts to install/configure Dynast..2USB device every time I plug-in the ANT+ USB stick into my Macbook (13" white)

2. After downloading latest 2.6 firmware version the update itself fails with the following error message:

"PM download was successful, but the firmware update failed"
Any idea how to resolve this issue is very much appreciated!

Thank you!

Martin

I'm having the same issue. I'm trying to update 2.5 version firmware on the 310XT to version 2.6 on this system:

Mac 17" MBP
OSX Snow Leopard v10.6.1.
Safari 4.0.3 (6531.9)
Garmin ANT Agent v2.1.3
Garmin WebUpdater 2.0.6
Garmin Forerunner 310XT v2.5.0.

The watch unit continually reboots, connects to the ANT agent and shows "Loader Loading..." before restarting.

The ANT agent meanwhile says "Updating Firmware... 0% Complete" and it does not proceed any further.

Quite frustrating but otherwise the unit is fantastic!

An update for the ANT Agent (2.1.4) has just come out that seems to fix this. I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.1), and the combination of Firefox 3.5.5 and the new ANT Agent had this go through without a problem just now. It had previously tried and failed many times with the previous ANT Agent.

I should add I was updating the 310XT from 2.4 to 2.6.
