Garmin ISM and the settings.fit file are hardcoded to 50bpm after syncing with Connect

A couple of months ago, I posted on the Index Sleep Monitor forum with a detailed write up detailing how the ISM when compared to other Elevate V5 watches, records higher heart rate and lower HRV.

When inspecting the ISM's "settings.fit" file, Resting Heart Rate is set to 50 bpm. The ISM seems to rely on this RHR setting as the device's "true north" to correct for when there is poor signal.

I created python code to specifically target the settings.fit file and successfully changed the resting heart rate field to my true value. What I found is that, upon syncing, it defaults back to 50 bpm. It seems it might simply be a server-side issue, not the device itself.

I can confirm that FW 3.91 did not improve the heart rate detection/calculation issue. So, as of now, any heart rate data measured by the ISM will be high for users with a RHR of less than 50bpm. I cannot confirm how the algorithm changes the beat detection measurements for users with a higher RHR.

It is clear, at the very least, that there is an issue with Garmin Connect pushing incorrect RHR data to the ISM. The question is, if this sync issue is corrected, will it improve the RHR and HRV numbers to align them with other Elevate 5 devices?

Please Restore Sleep Stress Overlay to Integrated Sleep Chart — Critical for Health Monitoring Users

I am a Vivoactive 5 user who relies on Garmin Connect as a longitudinal health monitoring platform managing multiple active conditions including COPD.

The previous integrated sleep view — showing Body Battery, HRV, sleep stages, and stress overlay simultaneously — was uniquely powerful for health-focused users. The stress overlay specifically allowed me to:

Identify when overnight stress correlated with respiratory distress vs. normal REM activity
Track the precise inflection point where my body transitions from active immune recovery to true rest
Distinguish illness-related autonomic stress from normal sleep stage variation
Validate recovery trajectory across consecutive nights during acute health episodes

The current workaround of cutting and pasting separate charts eliminates the time-synchronized relationship that made the overlay clinically meaningful. The stress chart is not even the same dimension to cut and paste to make the work around, requiring that I stretch the image to be get a relationship to my sleep activity.

I note that the spring 2026 update adds sleep alignment and circadian tracking — welcome additions. But for health-monitoring users, restoring the stress overlay to the integrated sleep view is more urgent than any new feature announced.

Specific request: Is restoration of the sleep stress overlay on the development roadmap? If so, when?

Please upvote if you agree this feature should be restored.

The one in May is explained by the gap in the badge. There was no badge for one week.

Hard to say what happened the other months. Maybe you didn't join the challenge. Do you see them as failed challenges in the past challenges page? https://connect.garmin.com/app/challenge/past-challenges

In May you've definitely joined it. Now you just have to place yourself as the top 3 in the weekly challenge.

Hi Garmin Team,

I would like to report a problem regarding challenge badges and rankings.

Over the past few months, I finished several Garmin challenges in 1st–3rd place. I also received confirmation emails from Garmin stating my final placement in those challenges. However, the corresponding badges/rewards were never added to my account.

Because of this, I would like to ask if someone could please check whether there is an issue with my account or with the badge system itself.

I can provide screenshots of the confirmation emails and challenge details if needed.

3rd place on Februar, 2nd place on March, 1st place on April and 3rd place on May and didnt receive any podium badge 😄 im confused.

You can only win that badge once a month, even if you finish in the top 3 every week. No other badge will be given for winning those other weeks.

Post a screenshot where you ended up as 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the Weekly challenge.

I don't see any way you can see the result from older weekly challenges. You have to post a screenshot from your email for that.

Note that between April and May there was a gap for one week (April 27 to May 3) that didn't count for the podium challenge badge so the date for your win is also interesting.

Weekly Step Challenges don’t award badges. They’re leaderboard‑only, so finishing 1st–3rd won’t trigger any badge. Only Monthly, Event, and special challenges include badges.

Feature Request: Allow video animations in custom workouts

Hi everyone,

I really love the pre-made Garmin workouts that include exercise animations—they are great for keeping proper form. However, like many of you, I prefer creating my own custom strength routines in Garmin Connect.

Right now, when we build a custom workout, we lose those helpful animations on the watch. It would be an amazing upgrade if Garmin allowed us to view the video form guide directly on the wrist during our own custom sessions.

This feature would make the custom workout builder infinitely more useful.

I can't earn the "Thanks for Sharing" Badge

I can't earn the "Thanks for Sharing" Badge. I have tried sharing multiple activities, and yes they were all set to public, and have not been able to earn the badge. A friend of mine has earned the badge by having a public activity, press share and copy link. When I do it, no badge awarded. I have tried using both the app on moible device and the website via pc. I have tried deleting cookies and reinstalling the app. still nothing. any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Have you checked with the hotel’s lost and found? If the Garmin Connect app detects your watch, you could use the “Find My Device” feature. Depending on the model, the sound it makes isn’t very loud, so it would need to be pretty close.

My garmin watch disappeared in a hotel. The next AM my phone synched in the lobby. I contacted GARMIN and asked if they could (like most every other manufacturer) alert me if the serial number was re-registered. All I got was different versions of no. They did not help me at all and in fact noted only on my website that it was reported lost or stolen. In the unlikely event that I do recover my watch I suspect I won't be able to use it.

I keep saying I won't get another Garmin and I'm not sure why I keep getting one.

It doesn't work for me. Activity is set to public, I press share button - web link and share. I have tried sharing via mail, messanger, notepad. still no badge. I have tried via the app and via web, no badge.

Garmin - SP Please also add me to the ticket. I am on a Mac, using Safari, and have to log back into the Connect Web site multiple times a day. It is becoming very frustrating and has gotten worse over the last few months.

The "Remember browser" checkbox at login seems to be non-functional, so the website requires 2FA for every login. Highly annoying.
The website does not remember my cookie permission settings, so I have to accept cookies again after every login

TLS fingerprinting blocks third-party clients

I'm a software developer and over the years I've made a few scripts and tools to collect, parse, analyze, and otherwise interact with my data on Garmin Connect. Most recently, I was interested in using an MCP server to give LLMs access to my data. There are already a few options available, but most of them have been broken by a recent server-side change. Apparently, Garmin is now using Cloudflare TLS fingerprinting, which breaks most/all non-browser clients. That means we can no longer (easily) interact with the Connect REST APIs.

This is really disappointing to me as a customer. The data I record on my devices and store on Garmin Connect are my data, and I expect to be able to access it via reasonable means for whatever purpose I want to use it for. Garmin customers, including myself, made a lot of noise in support of Garmin when Strava recently brought a frivolous lawsuit over patents and data usage. But whether or not it was intentional, this change makes me feel like Garmin is now gatekeeping access to my own data in a similar manner.

I do understand that there are costs associated with running the platform, and there need to be controls in place to prevent malicious misuse or excessive requests from badly-behaved clients. But if that's the primary concern, it's time for Garmin Connect to provide a real, documented public API with OAuth support and the ability for any developer to create a new client for personal use.

Firefox also crashes randomly when adding points.
I dont think it is random, I got it repetitively when placing points similarly. Once I changed the patern of my points, it did not "bug" anymore.

I use Chromium on a Raspberry pi5 (8GB ram) running stock Bookworm.

Website course designer has worked very well for years.

Now with the new version I get regular crashes while adding points. The screen goes white and I can't do anything with the map, but the menu still works. So I have to start again. It does it randomly.

There used to be a very useful reverse course facility that was able to reroute around roundabouts. Now when I reverse the start & end points it makes no attempt to reroute the roundabouts and when I attempt to move points or add & move points on the roundabouts, road rerouting automatically takes over and draws lines everywhere seemingly trying to - well, who knows what.

When selecting my British postcode as a start point, it no longer properly centers on my house. So after zooming in, I then have to drag the screen around to find my house.

I know we can't go back to the old website but please stop changing things for change's sake and in the process break what was a very good tool.

thank you very much. it works for me, i was able to mint new tokens and continue using garth. i am sure this is going to be brittle and will eventually stop working, but for now my strategy is to get at least 2 years out of my recent garmin purchases (fenix 8), and then throw them away and move to a manufacturer which is API friendly.

(for anyone who is interested in redoing this for their own stuff -- my codebase uses garth, and i asked claude to incorporate the strategy implemented here:

to replace the garth login process. it did it fine on first attempt.)
