This is a well-known bug and this is amazing Garmin has not been able to fix it yet. Not able to set the only international system of measurement is a huge facepalm, hopefully we have a christian calendar for the date, at least they were able to have that right. One day they might discover the metric system.

The workaround is to set it on your watch and never change it on GC.

Miles to Metric

I am not having any problems changing and saving the Metric setting on my ipad and iphone in Garmin Connect. However when I sync my device the change does not take place on the wrist band. Still showing miles. Any suggestions?

Miles to KM fixed!

Garmin, this is so simple! Please fix it. We should be able to choose all units here at connect. Miles to Km and also Weight (kg) and Height (m).

Had the same issue when I got my Vivosmart. Many of us set up the device and then play around with the device and Garmin Connect settings then finally attempt to change the Miles to KM. (various ways depending the device. or software). I changed mine on my Connect app on my phone and it was no good. VivoSmart still read Miles. Even a sync did not make it change on the device. I checked the forum and saw a few threads on the topic. I tried a few things myself then final got it.
The solution is to disconnect (UnPair) your device from your phone thru the app. Almost the same as removing a wireless network or other Bluetooth device with your standard phone features. You tell your to forgot and remove it totally. Except you need to do it thru the connect App itself. In the Connect menu there is an option for Devices. You will see the device in question. A long tap will bring up a dialog that shows the device product name, MAC ID, Unit ID, and last connect date and time. Plus an option to Cancel and one to Remove Device. Select Remove Device so the paring memory is gone.
Then follow the original steps to pair the device again to your phone just like when you first got it. You can also use the Bluetooth feature in the device to pair to the phone. go thru the steps, entering the code and such and when the device pairs it resets the settings on the device to your current app settings. You'll see once it pairs it shows setting up the device. (Even though you set it up the firs time you paired)
So Voila. Metric! (Just make sure you've changed your setting to Metric before pairing it back to your phone.)

Have you tried using a different browser? Regardless, you should be able to change the setting here.

Exactly Team Garmin. Please fix that because most of us in Europe use KM/min not mi/min. Thats important thing to fix !

I was able to change the setting to Metric via the settings-option after clicking on my user name (somewhere top right on the page). It saved and since that moment all distance, pace and speed are shown in KM.
For some reason, when I share an activity via social media everything is shown in miles again. Same goes for live tracking.

I've sent a service request regarding the fact that 90% of the European (and roughly the same proportion in the world!) get the wrong unit on Facebook.

It works for me. At the drop down list from my username in the top right of a Garmin Connect page I select 'settings' and then at the 'display preference' I choose 'metric'. It saves it automatically now and there should be a little yellow highlighted note above that pops up saying preference saved.

And you are talking about the website through a browser on your PC/mac and not some smartphone app right?

Guys,
today I managed to fix the problem!:cool::rolleyes::)
I simply connected to Garmin Connect from a different computer (at work, running a very old IE version) and there I was able to change the settings and the change was kept. So it seems that the bug is related to the Computer/Browser/Add-ons you are using.

So I suggest to try it from several computers/browsers, ideally some old ones.

Hey!

In the account settings page on connect.garmin.com, I changed the units from "english" to "metric". However, the change isn't saved and Garmin Connect still uses miles instead of kilometeres.

Any workaround available (other than getting used to imperial units)?

edit: Scratch that. You have to ask them via http://garmin.custhelp.com/app/utils/login_form/redirect/ask if you're outside of US, UK and possibly other countries.

Same problem, really, REALLY frustrating!
I had hoped that a company like Garmin could build a decent site (new owner), big disapointment, should go for something else where my buck gets the whole package.
