10K run = Zero Steps as watch had a "hissy fit"

I dont know how else to put this - I did ask Garmin directly a while ago, but they couldnt help.  This happens occasionally, but without any warning.

So this morning, I did a 10K race - all fine, Race time etc transferred via my phone to my Garmin Connect data.

However, I then connected my watch charging cable via PC - loud beep, load buzz, the watch has gone backwards 4 hours and all my data - steps, calories, heart rate is erased.

Watch will correct the time when it finds GPS, but is all the other / remaining data lost forever??  (Previously I have also lost recorded runs as Bluetooth didnt connect to phone)

Also, does anyone have any ideas what the cause is, and how to stop it??

Obviously there is an error log  - but its all nonsense to me!!

Thanks in advance

  • Maybe try to turn it off and on like once a month, I'm not sure but it seems more likely to happen when it works long. I didn't lost data, but rarely it got wrong hour. One time an activity was supposedly started a previous day and ended next day after GPS corrected time.

Also check watch's disk for activities files, saved should be there.

  • I wouldnt even know where to start looking for the activities files!

  • where to start looking for the activities files!

Which watch to you have and do you have a Mac or a Windows computer? Connect your watch via Garmin cable to your computer and browse to the drive associated with the watch then look in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder. The activity files will be in that folder.

  • Forerunner 235, and Windows.

I can see some of the files - but again its all nonsense to me - probably easy for others!

  • Well, names kinda look like nonsense - but just sort by date and look for FIT with a date you are missing - each file is for some activity. Then you can try to upload it manually (if it won't work then check thread for fixing activities' files). But space is limited, so older activities may be already deleted.

And it's the same watch's model on which I had similar issue, so probably occasional turn off/on will prevent that.
