Where are calcs done?

My garmin 235 does calculations (training effect, vo2 max, etc.) based on heart rate, pace, etc.  Do those calculations get redone on garmin connect or just copied as part of the .fit file?  I want to correct some incorrect heart rate data from a race and cant decide whether to spend the money on the "fit file repair tool".  If the calcs are not redone, then it seems like a waste to update the heart rate data.  Thanks!

  • I *believe* most are done on the device, with a couple of exceptions.

I‘m not certain, but believe this as when I queried why Training Focus, etc. wouldn’t incorporate data synced to Connect from my Fenix and Intensity Minutes wouldn’t incorporate data synced from my Edge I was told that the devices calculated these metrics and so it is “impossible” for my training metrics to reflect...you know... me rather than the devices.

It seems only VO2 Max and recovery time are synced across devices (which means if you have more than one Garmin device then all the other metrics are pointless, but they tell me that that’s “by design” and that they can’t accommodate my “unique use case”..).

Thanks - you must be right - that agrees with my experience so far.  I tried the demo version of the "fit file repair tool" and it let me swap out the heart rate data, but becuase it was a demo, it purposely corrupted the second half of most of the fields.  For yucks, I saved that as a new fit file and imported it into garmin connect.  Even though the data was really different, the calcs of training effect, etc. did not change.  You must be right - it's must be on the watch, not on the web.
