VIRB Edit won't start Windows 10

All of a sudden (Big windows update last wee?) VIRB Edit displays the splash screen when I open it, but then I get a white outline (which is some kind of message dialog box) and opening stops.

If I press ENTER in the keyboard, it prompts me for a folder location (photos folder?) then I get a second white border box. If I press ENTER I get another select folder location (video folder?) and then the splash screen goes away - but I never get application main window. The task bar shows the app is running, the previous windows shows blank when you point the mouse at the application, but the app is hung.

Been using VIRB Edit for many months. Currently using 5.4.3 although I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling and going back several versions just to see if the problem goes away. None of that has helped.

Any advice would be appreciated. In the meantime - how can I take the 360 videos from the SD Card and stabilise them into videos I can then work on in other apps (I use Power Director normally - but it don't think it stabilises the video and combines the split files like VIRB Edit does).

Thanks, Ken

  • Am having very similar problem; just bought a Garmin Virb Ultra 30 and installed VIRB Edit software.  When I launch Virb Edit, the splash screen shows for about 5 seconds and then goes away but no program opens.

I see on Windows Event Viewer under Windows Logs > Application I am getting a .NET Runtime error:

    Application: VirbEdit.exe
    Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: exception code c000001d, exception address 00007FFCBE7BCD21

Not sure how to fix this.

My system is Windows 10 Pro Version 1919 OS build 18363.535.

  • Hey

I finally realised it was Duet (a utility for screen mirroring across to the ipad). Once I removed that and re-installed VIRB all returned to normal.

So my suggestion would be to look for any similar installs or drivers/utilities.

  • Thanks for the advice Ken!  I started closing apps 1 at a time and tried to open Virb Edit after each one.

Found that MSI Afterburner app was causing the issue!  After closing it Virb Edit opens right up!

    Thanks again!
