I see lots of discussion about how various things on the computer causes slow download speeds when using Garmin Express. How can my computer have download speeds of ~95 Mbit/sec but the Garmin is only ~2.6 Mbit/sec? Explain this to me please!

Last night on 5-12-2026 when I opened Garmin Express I got a mandatory update to version 7.28.1.0. Info is now in release notes above.

s20 regions greyed out when installing golf courses. Cant interract with it and screen stuck in different states.

Hi.

I have a garmin apporach s20, i havent updated it in a while. 2 years or so. I tried doing a firmwire update and installing courses. This made my s20 bug out, so it got stuck in several different states. I've resetted it many times including factory resets etc and reinstalling garmin express.

Now i cant really connect my s20 to garmin express to find my unit. I can find it under "my computer" and i see that its cleared. When i've managed to connect it to garmin express the course files for all regions are too large, which is fine i guess. I only need Europe installed.
The problem is thought, that the garmin express interface is disabled when trying to interact with the checkboxes. So im stuck, cant update it nor use the s20 since it's stuck in either "garmin"-start or the usb connect screen. Doesnt work by hard resetting it, factory resetting it etc. I've tried all listed reset types from garmin.

Ocasionally the screen reloads saying "missing golf maps". Plugging it in to my or any other computer freezes the s20, then trying to install the maps locks the garmin express UI....

Obviously there is no way in heck Garmin is going to support or help people with this

but just to help other advanced power users on older Windows, if you want to try the newer versions of Express that typically will refuse to install/work

just use VxKex-Next

I've been using Express 7.28 on Windows7 for a few days now without any problems at all

VxKex just simulates the missing API calls they are trying to use for Windows10 and lies to the program to tell it Windows10 is installed

I have my 3rd BMW Nav 6 that has been replaced under warranty (Thank You Garmin!) It works much better but I have a problem doing a factory data reset via the old way of pressing and holding the right lower corner when booting the device to access the reset screen/menu... Is there a new procedure?

How to clean "sticky" black plastic back cover on nuvi 1300?

It is an older unit which I purchased off of ebay and have gotten it to work. The back is sticky and I can't seem to get it to be non sticky. I have tried 70% isopropyl alcohol, baking soda mixed with water to make a paste, and an orange-based spray cleaner. Any suggestions?

How to reset the date on nuvi 1300

Before I was able to get my nuvi 1300 to update software and maps, I purchased a used unit off of ebay, in case my device was broken. The used unit has arrived, and I successfully updated the software and maps, after getting a new microSD card for it. I can't find the setting now, but at one point I had a choice to see World Clock and World Map. The date was September 16, 2006. How I can re-set the date, or is it supposed to re-set automatically when it finds a satellite signal? It finds a signal just fine. I tried setting the Time by choosing Automatic, but that did not update either. The minutes were right, but the hour was 1 hour slow.

Why do I have to disconnect between map updates?

I tend to do multiple map updates, such as the 2026.10 maps that just came out, one map at a time. But when North America finished, and I wanted to do Europe, Garmin Express instructed me to disconnect my Edge and reconnect it. Why is this necessary?

Opening Garmin Express today the latest version (2026.1) of applicable maps were shown to be available for my device.

After selecting the maps in the Map Manager, the old versions were deleted from my F7Pro, but the new versions continually fail to load, even after many+1 attempts

It does at times seems to go through successfully, but it is not visible on the device under installed maps

Other times the load and installation process will just fail when re-running:

Subsequently I have no useable maps available on my device currently :(

Any ideas will be appreciated

Proximity Text, GLX, All Languages Update Loop

I am trying to update my maps, but first Garmin Express insist on updating the Proximity Text, GLX, All Languages to 3.90.

The D165900.zip is placed on the unit, but does not seem to ever complete the process.
I saw another post, which suggested removing the zip, trying again, and powering-up the unit for several minutes before reconnecting to the PC, removing the device from Garmin Express, and then readding. This does not help.

Garmin Express says the update was "successful," but continues to insist that this update needs to be done.

I was able to update the language file.

How can I get the latest maps to install?

I had a guestion before on updating Drivesmart 55 with Garmin Express which was ruled as a no-go, so I tried to connect it to wifi. I get a wifi connection, but update immediately failss with unable to connect to the update server. What do I miss? Other devices (Android smartphone, old Blackberry smartphone, notebook) using the wifi just work... Is there any way to troubleshoot? Do I need to set up some account? Thanks in advance!

This has been a ridiculous experience. Installing Garmin Express on Windows 11 causes a problem. I want to install Net Framework but for some reason it can't. It doesn't tell me why or what might happen without it. Garmin does install, but Net Framework doesn't. Maybe that's the problem - I dunno. Garmon express runs, sees my device and is "Step 1 of 2: Preparing Device for Software Update. This may take a minute" The minutes has gone on for 2 hours. No end in sight. Why is this so difficult?

did Garmin Express for Windows remove support for AntStick at some point?

I have an AntStick and figured it would be nice to use Express without having to plug in the watch to USB sometimes

Except my Express doesn't do anything with the AntStick

Now I have the ancient Garmin program before Express called "Garmin ANT Agent"

ANT Agent DOES see the AntStick, it changes when the dongle is plugged in or removed

But Express does nothing, tried adding it as a device, nothing detected

Just to complicate things this is Windows 7 with that final version 7.20.3.0

But they had to have support at some point before that for years, no?

ANT Agent stopped around 2015 I think, that's a long decade between it and Express with Windows 7

I am really disappointed Garmin has moved everything now to their mobile app only,

millions of people still use desktop machines, especially with vision problems needing large screens

Manage Maps screen is blank

I'm trying to update the factory-included maps on my Amazon refurbished Edge Explorer 2.

I initially had some trouble updating to the latest firmware (it had apparently been sideloaded) but joining the beta channel triggered the update to 30.19

I'm now struggling to update the maps - the ones on the device are all from several years ago (with the exception of the third party map I have purchased)

When I click "manage maps", I just get this blank screen - as if it can't recognise any of the maps on the device (given the storage is just full of "other").

These are the files in the GARMIN folder:

I've several steps so far after going through Google

Running Garmin Express as admin and in Windows 8 compatibility mode
Ensuring high contrast themes are turned off
Setting desktop scaling back to 100%
Deleting the maps
Deleting GarminDevice.xml
Removing and re-adding to Garmin Express
Reinstalling Garmin Express and clearing all data out

I think it could be a device issue - as my Fenix 6X Pro updated its maps no problem.

Can anyone advise on what to try next? Or could this signal a device problem that needs taken up with Amazon and a replacement?

Several weeks since I cannot sync my 955 device thru Garmin Express 7.28 and I have to do it with the the mobile app.

nuvi 2569 takes over 20 hours for map update on 91 kb/s

Nuvi 2569 connected for over 20 hours and still only 79% updated at a rate of 86.7 KB/s. Time remaining has gone from 1 hour to 12:15 hours remaining AFTER over 20 hours of being connected to the computer and it keeps on going up as the transfer rate slows down.

This is the third time I have tried to update it. The first time it failed. The second time it got stuck at 70% for 12 days. There is an 8GB SD card.

It is connected to the computer which is connected to the router via ethernet (not wifi). The internet speed for the router is 512MB/s

Full Topoactive for Europe not "Central" "Eastern" and "Western" - stuck

Hello.

I understand that last year (2025) Garmin transistioned from "Central" "Eastern" and "Western" Europe Topoactive Maps to one "European" Topoactive Map.

When I log into Garmin Express it still offers me last years 2025 update for my Garmin Edge 1050. I understand that this is because I am "Stuck" on the regional split, and not the entire continent map. As the individual maps are no longer being updated, I will forever be stuck on that update. I also understand that the latest update for the Maps was released in Feb 2026 which I cannot get because of this problem.

The device itself shows that it can download the update for Europe, but when I ask it to do that, it says its downloading the map, and says it will take 10+ hours to do so I have a 2000mbps internet connetion, and I would really like to download the map into express and then squirt it onto my 1050, like I normally do, and in less than 45 minutes that it normally takes, not 10+ Hours.

I have:

Deleted the maps off the device and the GarminDevice.xml from it as well.
Uninstalled Garmin Express from my PC and reinstalled it from the fresh download from Garmin running 7.28.0+f1c0ff2f.
Signed out of Garmin Express and Back in again.
Removed the device from Garmin Express and readded it.

But it refuses to see the map. I'm down to the only option of installing it via the device itself which is 10+ hours.

Are there any suggestions on how to fix this?

So I got my 11 year old son a real Garmin watch. He has no smart-phone yet, but Garmin allows me to setup an account for him under my parent account. T
o my suprise Garmin Express blocked introducing his account due to the fact it was a child account.
This now forces me to use my own phone to sync,
meaning
- I need to log out of my own account,
- login to his,
- sync and
- login to my own account again.

In all still ok, but....

with that sync my son also has my calendar appointments, and possibly messages I generally receive on my watch. And even after logging back in on my own account, the calendar meetings remain in the watch including reminders 😛.

So besides buying him a smart-phone (or creating an android account on my phone for this) he doesn't need, Garmin Express seems to be the best tool for the job. Maybe you had good reason for this block, or have a better solution. I am curious what that is. But my request stands as most parents by now start to agree that smart phones should be introduced as late as possible in these kids lives,
