Where did I get this gauge from?

I've been using VIRB Edit for years and I had to format my PC. I completely forgot how to add/backup custom gauges so I lost the one I loved.

I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from somewhere, but can't figure out where. Any clues?

no power data

I am using a FLY12 video with the Garmin Virb software
however i cannot get power data to display.
Everything else is displaying and cadence is showing fine which is why im trying to figure out why power wont show because it works off the power meter

I am using the GPX file from strava

What am i missing?

I used 'Export Original' in strava which creates a fit file. Then imported into garmin connect and the power shows up. When I just did Export GPX in strava the power data did not show.

We've made a lot of progress since VIRB Edit 2.0 trying to make sure that Export works on as many PCs as possible. Unfortunately, there are still some export issues out there. This is what you can do.

Are you running the latest version of VIRB Edit?

You can always find the most up-to-date version at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591.

Is your graphics card driver up to date?

Make sure it is, old and faulty drivers will interfere with VIRB Edit video playback and export.

Are you running BitDefender or some other Anti-Virus software?

We've had several users report that export does not work if they have BitDefender (www.bitdefender.com) Anti-Virus software running. Try disabling your Anti-Virus software temporarily and see if that fixes export in VIRB Edit. For BitDefender, exclude VirbEdit from the Active Virus Control (AVC). Then export should work.

We've also had some users report issues with other Anti-Virus software. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download is excellent and free (and built-in in Windows 8).

Are you using videos from a VIRB device

We'd love for VIRB Edit to work with all sorts of video files. However, our main objective is to make sure it works with videos from VIRB cameras. If you do have trouble with non-VIRB videos, try setting the volume of your clips to 0, this has helped in some cases.

Try exporting from the Video Gallery, not from the Edit page

We've had some users report that Export works if they do it from the Video Gallery, but not if they export from the Edit page. We are looking into why that is, but in the mean-time, it's worth a try.

I get a warning about a 4GB file size limit, what's up with that?

On Windows 7 (not on Windows 8), the software we use to write video files has an unfortunate 4 GB file size limit. So if your video is too long, it will hit that limit and export will fail. To make matters worse, it will fail at the very end of a possibly very long export process. That is why VIRB Edit warns you that you might hit that limit. You can still attempt the export if you want to. To circumvent the 4 GB limit you could: a) make a shorter video, b) make a video at a lower resolution or c) upgrade to Windows 8. At 1080p, you should be able to squeeze about 25 minutes into 4GB.

None of the above is any help at all, I am running the newest version and I am using VIRB videos only, I swear!

Try another export, then locate the following folder on your hard-drive: C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME}\AppData\Local\Temp\VirbEdit\{Latest Version of VIRB Edit}. For me, currently running 2.6.2 this would be C:\Users\FALAGAR\AppData\Local\Temp\VirbEdit\2.6.2.

There should be at least one file in there named something like: ExportLog1392221853.txt.log. Send an email to [email]win.virbedit@garmin.com[/email], attach the log file(s) and let us know what kind of computer you are trying to use VIRB Edit with.

We are interested in:

Is it a Laptop or a Desktop?
Give us the model name if you can. (Something like "Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro", or "Dell Optiplex 990".)
How much RAM does your computer have?
What CPU does it have?
What GPU (graphics card) does it have and how much memory does that card have?

Be advised that video editing is a very computing-intensive task. So the faster your PC and GPU the better the experience will be. So exporting with a 4 year old netbook will probably not work very well.

I have had the Elite for a week or so now. Surprisingly, it isn't the camera for the most part I have issue with it is the integration with the software and garmin Edge.

As a person in the IT industry, I am surprised you guys would release this product and software with so many of the obvious items not included in the Edit software that you acknowledge should be there. You are too large a company to not have mapped that out and got it completed prior to release. Somebody is holding back on the resources. Open source would have likely had you further along.

In terms of integration, my primary use is cycling. I had hoped having the Ant plus and being a Garmin device would allow telemetry to smoothly come across instead off all the work arounds and synching that have to be done with other products (open source stuff, dashware.net)

Instead, I get a device that you can't change the data shown or the look of the data. Extremely relevant data such as distance, location and total ascent can't be included which would be the case if the software would synch with the file from the other unit. Essentially, the unit can't produce the cool telemetry videos we like to make.

Without these items, the unit falls well short of expectation and will likely be returned.

Please let me know any plans to allow this other relevant data to come across before I return the unit.

I appreciate your efforts to communicate on the forum.

A few other thoughts for those that may be reading and considering:
The unit without the case weighs more than gopro with the case.
At 1080p with light off, you may get 2:15 out of the battery not 3hrs.
The shape may be "aero" but it makes it much more difficult to position on the bike.
It does not work with the gopro standard bike mount. You must have the Garmin mount.
Overall, the camera performs equal to others on the market at this price.

I've been using telemetry overlay. It is not too difficult to get the hangover. It is also a very robust piece of software.I've been playing around with it and I'm very happy so far. I can officially say that I don't miss virb edit anymore.

Yes, you can edit small snippets from a single file.

And unlike Garmin, it doesn't force you to re-create entire file if you want to do multiple segments. You can export exactly what you want. (if memory serves me right, when I did the trim left or trim right function, I couldn't go back to how it was before.)

The software works fantastically well and no errors so far. The export process is also faster than virb edit, and I find the file size to be smaller by default.

The gauges also have lots of customization. And like Garmin, if you have a particular overlay that you like, you can save it.

You have more of a granular quality in regards to the export and file size as well.

The developer is also open to ideas, is quite responsive and continues to add new features.

I came here to provide an update over my experience with the software since I purchased it, and saw your message and decided to respond. :-)

I am not a power user, stick with the most basic features, and I'm quite happy with it.

Today i had a issue when i tried to gauge my GPX metrix on video. When i choose the file and the app dont show the map on left panel, open a window saying that happens an error on script page.

I have tried that software. The trial version has just basic function and does not show full capability (so it's not really impress me - it's the telemetry overlay mistake to just put so little feature on 3-day trail version). Garmin workflow - also save a lot of time for me try to trim a bit of each video clip and export at once.
Somehow I also can work around with Virb again so i am stick to the Virb.

Maybe you can tell me more if you have full functionality of gauges and can do several quick trim on multiple footages , that may make me interest again.

I tried it and it is too expensive for what it offers. It's not worth as long as there are free software out there. I installed Daswhare and it offers all what a regular user needs

The best app by far is Telemetry Overlay Telemetry Overlay (trial) | Download and test Telemetry Overlay for free (goprotelemetryextractor.com). Yes it costs money, but it's way better than anything else out there (including Garmin). I've been using it for a long while now and find it very easy to use and incredibly efficient when creating videos with telemetry. Looks like a lot of the YouTubers with big followings are using it too. I know a lot of people on here baulk at the cost, but that's a choice you either take or don't. Personally, I wouldn't go back to Garmin, even if they fixed the issues.

Just a thought, check the internal clock on your video recorder. My GoPro gains time. Was 8 minutes out when I checked. I don't know whether this could be why some of my timings were a bit out recently. Diary note made to check every month 😉

Thanks to Flick87 I am now able use use VIRB EDIT again & sync G-Metrix data with my videos.

Flick87 posted a fix by altering Telemetry Timings in XML files. It is quite a simple method once you get the hang of it & I have found it to be quicker than the original Google Map sync when syncing multiple videos. It also eliminated the slight hesitation I sometimes got with the time gauge when joining videos. I found my videos were actually 8m 52.5 seconds long.

I have made a short YouTube video showing the way I did it, with an Excel Document for calculating the timings that you will need to alter in the XML file.

My data timings were one hour different to the Strava time. I don’t know whether this relates to which time zone you are in compared to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). I would be interested to know.

I have been using a GoPro Hero 7 with Strava GPX / FIT files.

If I have made any errors or if you have any comments please let me know.

There are two 'workarounds' now. Both involve editing video timestamps mostly outside of Garmin Virb Edit.

Why it broke: Something about the Google Maps API that Virb Edit uses changed and broke the time sync for Virb Edit. Virb Edit isn't really maintained anymore, so I wouldn't expect a software fix for the software itself, only external workarounds.

I continue to use Garmin Virb Edit.

The only thing that is not working is the time sync due to google maps API changes.

The GPX or Fit files only take geo localization once per second or even once per 2 or 3 seconds, depending on the app you use to record the track.

In my case, I know precisely when and where I want to sync because my paragliding flight track emits a sound 15 seconds after takeoff. So I only have to ADD or Delete geolocalization trackpoints to achieve the beginning of the video.

In case you want to use for example a GOPRO, film yourself starting for example the RECORD on Strava.

Later on, when you want to sync, you just need to know the exact minutes and seconds of the video on, when you started it.(you can use VLC for that)

Then you need to add a single track point at the beginning of your GPX/FIT files with the time of the first one less that time.

You can use other methods, as the FIT/GPX files are very simple to handle.

Garmin Virb Edit Video and Data Sync Workaround

I did some testing to find a workaround to syncing video and fitness files in Garmin Virb Edit after it recently broke. This method involves editing the metadata of your video files (using a script and ffmpeg) so when you import them into Garmin Virb Edit, they are in sync with your fitness data. Essentially this is manually syncing your video files using Strava flyby (which shows your activity time) and your source video files.

All my testing was done with GoPro Hero 11 mini video files. Please let me know if they does or doesn't work with other cameras or if it needs changes. I've only done limited testing, but, wanted to share to see if there are changes I should make.

I haven't had time to write proper usage and instructions. For now I made a screen recording and YouTube video of how to install and use the script.

I am working on my own solution of exporting png image overlays using Garmin Fit SDK. Later they can be syched with video in another software for editing videos.

At least it will work for my case. Of course I will share it publicly when it's ready, with hope to help someone else. It will be free: no payment, no registration and open source ready for updates and modifications.

For now it works with hard-coded data and I will try to add an web interface or desktop UI (windows) to take parameters dynamically. It's currently beta, beta, beta version until it goes to 1.0.0.0. 🙂

I have been able to workaround Garmin Virb to sync Gmatrix for a while. In fact, i have been using Virb edit almost daily UNTIL TODAY. Today something has changed again and there is no longer possibility to sync the G matrix anymore. This software become a piece of junk. Hope some smart people out there could eventually find workaround again.
